For Samsung devices that don't support DeX on windows there's SideSync. You connect to your computer over wifi.

It's going to depend on the device you're connecting to. When you're using an Hdmi connection, it's just outputting that signal to whatever display you're using. Dex is emulating a desktop environment on your computer, so despite what he said about your phone doing the processing; the computer' s graphics will still be responsible for rendering the DEX Desktop. If you're using a garage laptop, you're going to get garbage performance in DEX and you're better off with Hdmi.

I'm not sure if it will. They use an older CPU (they 835) that won't run as well and may overheat without the dedicated dock with the fan.

Nice vid, but you should of pointed out, that your phone is 5-6 times the price of that laptop. While the benchmarks only showed a 1.5-2 times performance over the laptop. Its a neat feature, but you should of showed this feature, on a lower end mobile, if it can run it, ie dex, to show the reality, of needing a high powered mobile to do this. Its a neat feature, but you are paying a premium for this.

This is an easy way for people to test if Dex and the Galaxy Tab S6 are for them. Hopefully it comes to the S10 too. Although USB hubs are reasonably priced.

I noticed that the video quality is also poor, looks like it's maybe running at 720p. I tried several different USB cables. There's also latency. They have some work to do on the desktop app.

Netflix doesn't work on DeX, it keeps saying "Can't show protected content on your computer." the audio works but the image wont come through. This really sucks, this was the main reason I even cared about the new DeX to begin with to watch Netflix at work. I also noticed Hulu doesn't work either, but that's because it says it just doesn't support DeX.

According to Netflix it's an hdcp error. Could be a cable issue, dock issue. Netflix has a troubleshooting page for it. When my dock gets hot, it does the same thing and I lose video

The unstable and low frame rate is really disappointing. I was really hoping to use it as a full fat experience. Hopefully it gets better or maybe it would be better over a thunderbolt port? I should test that with my note 10 plus. I haven't experimented with dex yet. If it just kinda can't work better, then maybe someone will make a dex notebook which will be something like a dock in the form factor of a laptop. Like that Razer laptop with the Razer phone dock where the track pad was, but without the windows PC guts. Edit: lol I'm actually just thinking of the Razer project Linda. I wanted to buy Razer but they don't sell parts for their phones.

The only pro I can see for using Dex on Windows is for Android application developers to have some real hardware to test their stuff on... other than that it's kind of a gimmick Altough the standalone Dex is pretty much the future

This is essentially remote desktop to your phone. It is not external screen. Due that reasons 30 fps and latency is something I dont take as negative. It is not replacement for a real desktop pc.

can you try dex on windows with one of your gaming desktops? I ask because part of the problem of a low power laptop is that the graphics hardware (integrated or otherwise) is usually so weak it can't hardly handle basic hd video... The majority of the problem with latency and / or lag and low framerate may have to do with the cheap and weak system being asked to draw so many pixels onscreen so quickly. There's plenty of bandwidth in USB C to handle it, at least at 1080p 60fps, but I'm almost certain you're facing a bottleneck in that laptop

DeX does 3440x1440 via USB-C (or HDMI), but what about via DeX on Windows? What if you have a 4K screen? Does it work at 4K?

I have the same question. On 4K monitor the Dex is blurry and obviously can't scale up to 4K. I will have to test with an authentic cable though that can do 4K@60fps.

Samsung DeX currently only supports Display Resolution FHD (1920x1440) while WQHD (2560x1440) will show grayed out. Expect Low quality goodness on your 4k TV until they likely make a Note10 version DeX pad to buy.

I'd be interested in how it works on something more powerful I have a laptop with i5 7200u I'd like to pair this way with a galaxy S9. that's a full instructions Intel dual-core with hyperthreading at 2.5ghz with most of the time turbos to 2.7ghz. also howbout using a USB C to USB C 3.1 gen1 with something much more powerful like the hades canyon nuc you have.

You cannot "use Octopus if you want to" anymore.. Octopus stopped all PUBG support and no longer even loads when the game is launched. They recommended another app to use and I did pay 2$ for it but it was awful and did not work at all. So I refunded it. Hence I won't even share their name..

Usb A to C cable. It looks like the Samsung cable, in which case it's a 3.1 cable. Usb A is still a perfectly fine connector to use at USB3.1 At USB3. It's the only connection, technically. USB3.1 is where USB C connectors come into play.

I'm failing to see point of Dex on windows. Why not just use windows? It can do the same as Dex and much more and you can buy much better device for 1000€. For me if Dex works just by plugging into any screen without necessity of using apps on both devices then yeah it's useful. But if not the I don't see point of Dex. I wish companies would adapt desktop mode(can't remember the real name) from windows phone. You could just dock your phone to the monitor and keyboard and you had basically mini computer.
