I used a Note 5 until December 2023. That's 8 years of use. What stops me from getting a used Note 20 Ultra and use it until it's 8 years old? A phone isn't worthless just because you are a few Android versions behind. I love the design of the Note 20 more than it's successors and I'll probably get one soon.

Still using my Note 20 Ultra 5g Verizon variant and thankfully I managed to root it thanks to the community on xda😊. Beast of a phone with Magisk and LSposed installed and grabbing a plethora of endless modules to make the experience even easier and better. I wouldn't trade this phone for nothing. Did I mention it has an SD card slot? I needs me SD card slot. Cheers 🍻 Edit: The vast majority of non tech enthusiasts and non tech savy peoples wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Android 10, Android 11, Android 12, Android 13 and the upcoming Android 14. Let alone the UI versions. People's needs are to be able to make phone calls, texting, whatsapp and KZbin and take pictures and record videos. That sums up the population in a nutshell. Edit: My Note 8 Verizon variant rooted and modded as well held up spectacularly until I got my Note 20 Ultra in 2021 😊🎉

What's rooting for?
@ElMalito1875 ай бұрын
@@SleepyDogg Rooting is the process by which users of Android devices can attain privileged control (known as root access) over various subsystems of the device, usually smartphones. Because Android is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device gives similar access to administrative (superuser) permissions as on Linux or any other Unix-like operating system such as FreeBSD or macOS. Rooting is often performed to overcome limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices. Thus, rooting gives the ability (or permission) to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized applications ("apps") that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user. On some devices, rooting can also facilitate the complete removal and replacement of the device's operating system, usually with a more recent release of its current operating system. Root access is sometimes compared to jailbreaking devices running the Apple iOS operating system. However, these are different concepts: Jailbreaking is the bypass of several types of Apple prohibitions for the end user, including modifying the operating system (enforced by a "locked bootloader"), installing non-officially approved (not available on the App Store) applications via sideloading, and granting the user elevated administration-level privileges (rooting). Many vendors such as HTC, Sony, OnePlus, Asus, Xiaomi, and Google explicitly provide the ability to unlock devices, and even replace the operating system entirely.[1][2][3][4] Similarly, the ability to sideload applications is typically permissible on Android devices without root permissions. Thus, it is primarily the third aspect of iOS jailbreaking (giving users administrative privileges) that most directly correlates to Android rooting. Rooting is distinct from SIM unlocking and bootloader unlocking. The former allows removing the SIM card lock on a phone, while the latter allows rewriting the phone's boot partition (for example, to install or replace the operating system).
@SleepyDogg5 ай бұрын
@@ElMalito187 is that what you use it for? I'm still not convinced to do it because I feel like I can do most those things without root.
@ElMalito1875 ай бұрын
@SleepyDogg "To each is their own". Certains functions of the Samsung ecosystem will be rendered unusable. However their are ways around it and making it work however on my end of the spectrum I'm doing absolutely just fine with the Google ecosystem of things. Plus you need to be on a certain version of firmware to get Root up and running. Samsung has made it quite difficult to root Samsung phones year after year because just as Apple, they want a closed system, i.e. control of services, free and paid. Samsung has taken notes from the XDA community and so has Google. By slowly adding certain features that was only possible with rootes devices. These two major companies are fully aware of modding community and the amount of dedicated work they've brought to the table. Edit: The modding community took note of the difficulty of getting rooted so in hindsight the developers are now working inside the locked sandbox of Samsung and making rooted apps and features work without rooting your phone. Pretty neat to say the least.

@@tamwilfred Actually the S22 Ultras and S23 Ultras didn't have a 16GB RAM option only 8GB or 12GB. The S21 Ultra started off at 12GB for the base model then went up to 16GB for the top tier S21 Ultra.
@tamwilfred4 ай бұрын
@@sburton015 Thanks, I already knew that. I did some research to double check. That's why I just mentioned the S21 Ultra only and not the S22 or S23. I can only assume Samsung was testing the waters to see if there was a demand for a higher speced Ultra phone with the s21. I think at that time some of the Chinese brands might be selling 16GB Ram version of phones an Samsung might want to compete. Since most consumers probably buy the base model they probably didn't bother having a 16GB version for the s22 U and s23 U. That seems to be the general ethos of Samsung: throw a bunch of design choices and features and see what sells or what is in demand. The Note 10 plus and Note 20 started with 12GB of RAM. From my use case, even while pushing my Note 20 Ultra, I didn't come close to maxing out the 12GB of RAM. You could say a lot of people as well. I think a few years after it would make sense to bring out the 12GB version for the base model since as tech evolves, there is a higher demand for resources like RAM in 2024. Also, that 12GB of RAM is future proofing the S24 Ultra since it will receive software updates for seven years now.

SD cards with Video Speed Class ratings are specifically meant to capture and store video resolutions in 4K or 8K.. I don't think the person above owns a note. By the way they're talking. Ex. There are plenty of use cases where your phone can be catastrophically damaged with no way to recover photos for onboard (water or main board damage) memory where the files haven't yet synced to cloud given poor cell service or being too large to sync yet. Trying to run location apps like Instacart Shopper will drain the power sooo fast. That's probably true for most phones though. I wish it had 120hz @ 1440p. I keep it in 1080p just for the high refresh rate. It doesn't look bad though I will say. I noticed others here said they have camera focus issues and that's definitely something I noticed on my own using it to take photos. It can be really irritating when it happens but 95% of the time it's a non-issue. No green line problems on mine. I love the big screen. That phone is looking locked to 60hz at 1080p I honestly thought an update would of done the 120hz at 1440p cause the oppofind X2 pro dose it 1440p 120hz my OnePlus 7t pro McLaren edition 2019 90hz at 1440p. And I really wanna get a note 20 ultra but second hand they want 800 bucks I've even seen some over 1k an a s22 ultra is like 800 bucks second hand I've seen the od note 20 ultra for about 600 bucks. Like I think 500 bucks. My s9 in mint condition with everything except the earbuds. Cost 195 including shipping not one scratch but just not smooth an glitches out an it was my favourite phone I was like omg it's fast. Got my OnePlus 7t pro McLaren edition an it's like shit only one year above an way way better yet since then phones haven't really leaped so much kinda same with gaming consoles. An that's what sucks like the cameras have gotten better. Now iPhone it took them awhile to hit 120hz but their 15 and 15plus don't have 120hz an it's a disappointment. Cause Samsung with their s20 an above have 120hz the s20 was their last small phone to have 1440p as well. Their s21-s23-plus have 1080p screens now theirs still more detail or tho the screen aint as high resolution as the iPhone it still gives better colours an more detail an as much as I think eww even your s6 edge had a better display. It's not horrible I miss the fact of the curv displays on their small ones they could make a s24 ultra mini with the cameras an curv display with the box shape of their note series/s22-23 ultras. But at like 6.1inc wouldn't bother people if it was 108mp camera on it if it was small but with the new chipset their 5 cameras or whatever it would be amazing to see that

I love the note 20 ultra. Had it for 4 years now. The main reason I'll upgrade to the S24 ultra is because of the software updates.

Still still worth it!!! Even the mid range phone cant be compared to note20 ultra. Maybe i would say, in terms of camera stabilization is kinda outdated

Okay, sorry if i wanna ask, i know that no software update = no new One ui, as well as stuck in android 13?. Yes, but other than that, what is the major reasons that stuck in android 12/13 is a bad idea.. Since.. We know, outdated android support comes to Kitkat after Pie release, which is 5-6 years, i guess. Im not confronting, but im just curious, what is another downside of not havinv software update, is it okay if i still buy this, and maybe use it until 2026/ 2027...?

@marv7304 ай бұрын
Yes , it's the best value for dollar phone that's available. Watch comparisons to the S24 and iPhone 15. It not only holds up to them , but is better in certain aspects. Best phone I've ever had and about to buy another refurbished to use as a work phone .

@@nadamedec1577yes. I'm still using my note 9 from 2018 and ot works just fine. I'm a fairly heavy user and thr battery lasts me from 6am to 2pm usually. after another 1 hour of charging it gets me through the rest of the day. I haven't found any apps or games that dont work on this phone, some games run slow but still very usable. the not 20 ultra will feel like a 2024 flagship from a lesser known brand
