Samsung Galaxy Note PRO 12.2 Review

Samsung's new PRO line of tablets debuted at CES earlier this year, and now we have the biggest and most powerful one of them all in our hands. The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 features a 12.2-inch 2560x1600 display, two quad-core processors, 3GB of RAM and a new version of Samsung's Magazine UX.
The Magazine UX is a new skin from Samsung that combines a lot of TouchWiz's style with Android 4.4.2 and adds a feature first found on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Think of it as a Flipboard, but not in application form. The Note Pro 12.2 also includes an S Pen stylus, just like the rest of Samsung's Note family.

Some things he said in this video were wrong not the specs, price, or visual aspects but the software like flip-board, which he said was copied, when actually Samsung bought the software or rented it (lol) to use on the note pro, or the simple fact that he said it's just a bigger ipad and people will just buy ipads over it, when actually it has way more capabilities then the limited ipad, the review was good, but he shouldn't assume things in the future.

manbolo2 Pro apps or not, you can easily find cloud accessible office apps in the App Store. For me, I love the fact that it's got a big screen which I love to take notes with and then virtually organize them after a long meeting.

It's not a rippoff of flipboard, but Samsung colaborated with flipboard, just like they did with the S4, Note 3, S5 and many other devices, where Flipboard is preinstalled!

Marco, this is some feedback. I know it must be hard to be compared to Aaron all the time and many of us are willing to let you develop your own style, but read the comments and try to improve in the areas mentioned there. You may not like the tablet but do not say that at the middle of the review, think that we want to know what the tablet does , how it works and make a list of pros and cons. Leave the veredict to the viewers. Try watching Detroid , pocket now or even some old videos from Aaron. This is just my opinion and you don't need to answer or argue with it. Take care

This is definitely the type of tablet I've been waiting for... Great screen resolution, powerful CPU's, great battery, and 3 GB's of RAM (could care a less about the camera XD). I haven't wanted a tablet all these years because I never felt they were ever worth getting quite yet. I'll definitely be looking into getting this puppy later this year.

Good review, keep up the good work! When the note pro first came out I was tempted to switch from my iPad mini, but the €750,- price tag threw me off, now however I can get one for a little over €400,- which is why I'll probably by one soon. It kinda depends on what Apple is going to announce this Thursday :P

It's a larger Note 2014 edition. I would have be happy if you used that one as a comparison. The other Pro series are just non Note tablets.

I am still waiting for a 3ghz+ quadcore or octacore cpu phablet with a 1+ghz quadcore gpu, a 4k screen ,3+gb of ram,32gb+ internal storage , a micro sd card slot,lte, a 16+ mega pixel back camera and a 8+ mega pixel front camera, a long lasting battery and some 64 bit version of android. I expect it in 2015 and it will run a wii emulator at fullspeed. I would love 2tb of internal memory though. The device I just described seems to hover around 800+ dollars/euros price wise.

I must say that I found this review very one sided... (against the Note Pro 12.2) I think any reviews should be showing the pro's and con's but unfortunately this review simply made me stop watching after 3:05. I totally agree with most of the other comments - you really should have done proper research on the product and not simply made a review on your expectations or your own 'personal' preferences!

***** I've been trying to hold out for as long as I possibly can before cutting ties with PhoneDog completely and I think this video may have been the needle that has broken the camel's back. I've been watching PhoneDog reviews clear back to the days of Noah & Sydney (2009??) and also before Aaron lost all of his weight. Their reviews were all pretty much honest and unbiased but most of what I hear you say Marco is that you're an avid Apple fanboy and that's unfortunate when your job is reviewing products in a market where non-Apple products are in abundance. You don't have to like the products you review, but your job is to provide unbiased insight on these products that OEM's send to you for the purpose to review. Just like all of those Best Buy ads that Aaron used to push "get unbiased advice," that's not the case with PhoneDog anymore and I've had enough. Pocketnow does much better than this and I'm now wondering how much longer PhoneDog will even be in business.

What do you mean "the magazine tiles are a blatant rip off of Flipboard"??? IT USES FLIPBOARD UNDER THE HOOD, SO IT IS FLIPBOARD, and Samsung doesn't hide that fact, you click one of the tiles, Flipboard opens up.

Some people like high end things, yes there may be more cost effective solutions but sometimes price does not matter. Please dont be so biased. I agree it is overpriced and Touchwiz is a blight - but it's not "the same" as every other tablet - a lot of people who might want this wouldn't consider an iPad - the iPad has a much smaller screen, no digitiser, no SD card slot - so there are three reasons right there someone might choose this over an iPad. Love it or hate it, this thing is pretty unique and in a different market space than the iPad.

you dont need a digitizer when wacom makes a stylus for it that has pressure sensativity etc. who uses SD cards still? with google drive, copy.com, box.com, dropbox, EMAIL, bump, whats the use? and a smaller screen..? its still in the same space as an ipad, nexus7 etc, because its a tablet.

***** a pen isn't the same as a full screen digitiser. Personally I use sd cards for storing the kids movies, so a tablet that I plan on using for the family has to have that, and I have no idea what you mean by the last comment... Are you saying a 7 inch tablet appeals to the same buyer as a 12 inch tablet?

Matthew Sharpe I agree with you as the cloud is not always reliable. Plus I want to access my inform even if I am not on the internet. SN, there's not a stylus out that functions like the S Pen.

Actually the creative Wacom stylus does function like the S pen. All you do is write software for it. The creative stylus is just as good as a digitizer...

***** not really, it relies on wireless communication so it can be laggy and unreliable. I think they are a bit better than they used to be but I tried one a while ago and I don't think any serious artist would have found the performance acceptable.

I'm probably going to be the most hated person on here for this...but I need to say it at least once... I don't care if it's a tablet or a "smart" phone. They're all too gimicky and too pricey for no good GD reason; especially when they still after all these years don't do enough important things. Yes for the price they should operate more like PC's and laptops, at least with compatibility. As far as I'm concerned they're too much of an advertising medium that we've allowed ourselves to be snookered into paying for...and apps, 9/10 that I've tried are junk or mediocre at best. I know, but Patrick, you don't understand. You get all that computing power in such a small compact device. This is true. Too bad you can't run 99.99% of the programs that you really want to run on them. Instead you have to conform to the device and find psychological justifications on why you just spent such a vast fortune on a gimmicky gimped device. Hate away, hate away. The truth is tough :-p

Chuck Norris what would you want to do on a tablet? It certainly can't run full-on Windows programs, neither can anything other than a Windows tablet, but if all you do is e-mail, Internet, basic Word documents and Excel spreadsheets (without VBA macros) , take typed and handwritten notes, are satisfied with Photoshop Touch for photo editing, etc., it is perfectly usable as a PC replacement. The reviewer doesn't seem to understand that ANY tablet can install OneDrive (SkyDrive), DropBox, Google Drive, Bitcasa, etc. (all cloud services and free to a certain level of storage). These give tons of added functionality like auto-backup to cloud, access to PC files from anywhere with a connection. Apps like Phone2Chrome and Chrome2Phone give nice added functionality too.

cooloox I don't know, my laptop is pretty old and I probably need a new one within this year. I think I might just be better off getting a real computer. Besides I already have a nexus 7 2013. This note pro is very capable and all but still has far too many limitations compared to a computer. The surface pro sounds like a better option for me??

This review misses so many positives that this tablet has like proteanview mentioned. What about being able to use a mouse? You can't do that with an iPad. The 12.2 " screen is a major plus not an afterthought. The s pen is a major positive. Look at all of the lame attempts by manufacturers to come up with a half way usable stylus on the iPad; they all suck. No so card with an iPad. Because of this ridiculous review, I'm going to unsubsidized to PhoneDog. Goodbye!

its the power and extra screen real-estate you are paying for, the OctaCore processor is kinda needed to power such a big device (as well as the RAM) such things that are added to this device does make it a more Premium tablet on the market. also the nice thing about samsung tablets is their ability to expand memory. On an Ipad if you want 64gb... good luck u start paying another $200+ for that, as for on a samsung, u can get the 32gb version for $750 and expand the memory an extra 64gb for like $70. it is a very expensive tablet i agree to that, but you are paying for basically a new Generation is mobile tablets as well as one of the highest quality tablets on the market
