Great video man, but also so strange! I've just re-ran my tests and still get the Snapdragon far ahead, unlike what you're getting. One interesting thing is that across every reviewer's testing I've seen, the Snapdragon seems to be performing similarly, but the Exynos models seem to have more variance between them. Some people's Exynos phones ARE getting really hot and slow like mine did, and other people are finding that their Exynos phones are doing just fine 🤔

Super interesting! I'm in Australia so I've got Exynos and it's completely fine, but one of my viewers reckoned theirs was overheating. I guess there's just variability in hardware that we tend not to recognise enough. We like to think machines are all the same, but back when I worked at a Kodak store, we had these seemingly identical kiosks that definitely had their own personalities. Machines may not be as variable as biology is, but they are still physical things, and physical things will never quite be identical. It does say something about Samsung though, that they've finally gotten close enough with Exynos that this variability is now evident and able to confuse reviewers. You wouldn't be getting this sort of odd result if they were still lagging too far behind.

FYI, the processor actually dissipates its heat through the screen. If you look at some teardowns the OLED screen has a copper backplate (so it can dissipate heat). The processor is on the reverse side of the board and has a thermal pad connected to the screen. When you took the thermal gun to the back of the phone you were doing nothing because the processor isn't there anymore.

This difference between the exynos chipsets maybe due to the binning of the semiconductors in chipset factory as people found multi core vary greatly between 2900 and 4200 which is really confusing. Also, the difference between snapdragons can be due to the cooling systems between them. JerryRigEverything did a video about it and found they were two types of cooling systems in the same model.

Seems like you won the silicon lottery! Your Exynos seems to be a good multi-core sample and there definitely seems to be wide variances in Exynos S21Us. My Exynos S21U achieves similar single-core, but gets a significantly worse 3150 multi-core on Geekbench 5. Testing my S21U Exynos with AnTuTu 8.5.3 shows a significantly worse CPU and GPU score too - Overall 568014, CPU 159192, GPU 216028, MEM 114485, UX 78309

The latest update must have fixed the temp difference with the Exynos. You say you started the first comparison Antutu tests with the Exynos starting on 41 degrees, mine started over 10 degrees less than that and hit 39 degrees after running 3DMark Wildlife 4 times immediately after one another. Samsung have done a fantastic job with this new SOC.

@leonfrancis34183 жыл бұрын
I don't think this has to do with silicon lottery. Things like firmware and potential differences in preproduction units are likely effecting this more. Either way, regardless of the cause, Exynos is now neck and neck with SD and the differences don't really matter. People are looking for another story, and looking to meme about this like they do, AMD and Intel or something, and it's just not necessary.

My Exynos S21 Ultra that I bought just some days ago, and now updated to the latest software, is performing better than any other Exynos S21U that I've seen on every review, I don't know why. Maybe Samsung improved it in the latest update? Anyway while everyone on youtube seems to be getting around 3000-3300 points multicore on geekbench 5 with exynos, I got close to 3500 points and I repeated the test multiple times to confirm and it kept getting the same results. I mean, I'm not complaining at all, guess I got lucky and got better silicon quality that most of people. But damn this year Exynos is really trading blows with Snapdragon, which is awesome! Finally I don't feel ripped of because of living in an Exynos region. Very good year for exynos

Which isn't abnormal at all. In fact every piece of hardware varies in "performance". A Problem would be a *very large* disparity between your sample & the guaranteed minimums.

Appreciate the review, and Hi from Expensive Australia where we pay $1848.00 for s21 Ultra with 128gb ($1944 with 256gb) and the cheapest phone plan with our major telecommunications carrier is $55/month. Here we have predominantly Exynos (but not always depending on models) the performance variance currently to snapdragon is negligible I feel unlike years ago. I myself have a s21 Ultra Exynos and I'm Super happy with it even though on paper it may be slightly inferior in some respects eg overheating after extended use, I don't play games so it's no issue for me. Also just out of interest I work with someone with a recently purchased iphone12 and our photo camparisons are too close to call and yet some clinical reviewers will favour one over the other, again I think it's only logical there will be slight differences between same model phones. I think this reviewer is pretty close to the money with his findings.

It would be interesting to know how the adoption of AV1 has affected battery life drain when it comes to streaming video as more platforms are moving towards using it, and the Exynos supports hardware decoding of AV1 while the Snapdragon doesn't. This may mean the Exynos ages better in this regard, but whether the effect is significant remains to be seen. Also, as time passes, people continue to upgrade away from these chipsets
