Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 review: A flagship foldable refined

This is gonna sound weird but I’m a major iPhone Mini person. With the advent of Samsung dominating the foldable space and Apple refusing to continue the mini line, I’m thinking of jumping ship next year with the fold 5. Why? I love one hand-ability. The mini does that. So does the CLOSED Z Fold series. You don’t have to play phone olympics to do simple tasks. Plus you get an entire mini tablet when you’re in a setting thats appropriate (i.e.: sitting at a table or couch, at a restaurant looking at a menu, on public transportation, etc.)

I love my Fold, but it’s not as one handed unless you have big hands. So make sure you play with it at the store and maybe try the Flip also.

@@rimalaw77 thanks so much for the insight! I wouldn’t say j have large hands but my experience was very one handed with using the Fold 3 in the store. I think this is mainly due to android though. iOS puts 65% of your stuff in the top most unreachable corners of the screen. On android, I can go back without breaking a sweat and there’s customizations to make it one handed without losing half my screen like on iOS. I’ll have to try out the fold 5 in the store before jumping ship but I appreciate your reply. As for the flip - yes I agree it was not a one handed experience for me.

This is exactly my situation! I'm struggling between getting an iPhone 13 mini and the Fold4. Great to hear that one handed use with the Fold4 is good. I'm concerned about the battery life of the Mini as well as having to be in the Apple ecosystem when I'm all Google/Android/Windows at the moment

I actually discovered that today but it was too late since my order was going to come by tomorrow. If I would have done it with the rep, they would have given me a free pro 5 watch free pro 5 earbuds and still 50 less than I paid with my awesome trade. The rep told me that the website says that it's dynamic offers which change. All without any phone carrier contract. I still got a great deal with my z fold 3 trade and I an 11 iPhone. Balance was 550. But I got free airpods, case and pen.

Upgraded to the Fold 4 from a Samsung S9 & super happy with it! I didn't really have issues with my S9 as it was perfect for what I needed it for. However it's battery life & camera was just below the level I would've liked. Also I started seeing screen burn in which made viewing some things distracting. So the Fold 4 was a perfect upgrade for my circumstances. However the S9 is what I will continue to use in public, mainly as a glorified music player 😆. No way I'm risking the Fold 4 getting broken, stolen, etc.

The crease gets worse over time, so it would make sense that a new phone has a less noticable crease when new.

The separation in the phone when folded is bigger than the fold 3 so I don't think the crease will get bigger with time but time will tell, I honestly don't remember the crease on my z food 3 being more noticeable than when I first got the device and I agree the crease seems smaller this time around

I upgraded from a ZF3 and the 3 pixel increase on the cover screen sounds like nothing, but it makes a HUGE difference when typing now. I no longer hate typing on the cover screen. This was the main reason I upgraded along with the upgraded cameras! Very pleased thus far. I did get slight bubbling on the screen protector as well, so hoping that the adhesive is indeed improved.

I have to disagree with the camera comparisons. The Fold 4s images were better than the Pixel and the S22 Ultra, especially the one with the painting of the people on the brick building. Not even close.

There are many small improvements ZF4 over ZF3, I am not sure upgrading from ZF3 to ZF4 is for many people. Small improvements for $750+tax with ZF3 trade in. However, it will be worthwhile to upgrade from ZF2, ZF1 to ZF4, without a doubt. I wish the ZF4 was even a little wider, say by 1 cm.

(you are clearly not the many people) Small improvements for $750+tax with ZF3 trade in." So you spent $750+$46+ tax and a Z Fold 3 trade in. Yes, I have also said, "There are many small improvements ZF4 over ZF3", and you have mentioned some of them. If battery and camera are important, you should get the S22 Ultra, which has better battery and camera, and it is cheaper, with the same deal on the Watch 5 Pro, with the same trade in. Many people do not want to spend $750+tax for small improvement, but clearly some will, like yourself.

The Vivo X FOLD PLUS is the UNTAMED BEAST. I left Samsung's Z FOLD Lineup to get the VIVO device. I've owned the Original Fold, Z FOLD 2 and 3 but skipped the 4 for VIVO. I'm glad I did because I simply love it. However, I will be getting my wife the Z FOLD 4 for Christmas while my daughter gets the S 22 ULTRA. My other kids get Samsung A 53 & the other ones opted for IPHONES ( YUCK LOL)

Well I took off that screen projector off the day I bought it, and put a liquid glass screen over the top, to replace the one Samsung had on there,an the pen never leave's a mark on the screen, I don't recommend anybody do this unless they know what they're doing, an they have the right person that knows how to bake that liquid screen on perfectly, and I don't regret, it's a lot easier to clean and wipe off, I can't wait to see what Samsung does next.

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to say this foldables are so fragile. I had the first Samsung fold, no problems. I used it like a normal phone, I've dropped it several times (by accident) just like I have my Z fold 3 (open & closed). This is the only phone in the US market that gives you pretty much everything you will ever want in a phone. No, it's not perfect (nothing in this world is) but it sure is a hell of a lot better that a normal candy bar style phone. To suggest Samsung folds are "just starting to blend multi-tasking" with this Z fold 4, is big slap to Z Fold 3, 2, & the first fold. This is also the only phone that has 5 cameras to use. The versatility is virtually endless & most won't even use the full capability these phones have to offer. I believe Samsung does some of the best updates too.

Wish they would've made it wider (and possible as a benefit of the width also thinner). Phone mode is still a compromise with its narrow screen. And I don't see why it has to be, making it wider would also make the tablet screen wider. It won't take away content screen real estate but add to it. So it would be a win-win.

If you really want a foldable phone. You can't decide between the Fold or the Flip. I hope this helps you decide. If you love being inside and hardly go outside and love being on your phone all the time. Consuming media. The FOLD 4 is for you. If you have a life and love going outside. Going on jogs and the gym and spend much less time on your phone. The Flip 4 is perfect for you. Both fantastic phones in their own way. But I can tell you if you're carrying a Fold 4 around going out all the time and exercising. The Fold 4 will be annoying. It's very heavy and bulky. Flip4 battery life is great I left the house with my phone at 8:30am with 100% and I went on a nice day out to this big tourist castle. On and off the phone taking tons of photos calls ect. I got home at 2:20pm and my battery was on 69% I was on my phone more due to the tour around this huge 1200AD castle. So yeah the battery can easily last a full day for an average user. Taking photos and selfies with this Flip4 can be a ton of fun as well.

To be honest since VIVO released the Vivo X Fold, i expected huge improvement from Samsung on their zFold series but no they play it safe.. Just an advise, check out The: Vivo X Fold & Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 before considering buying the zFold4.

One month? If it couldnt last for even a month people would 100% be talking about it all the time. My guess is that this can last a year, and with good care maybe a few years too. It was tested after all, so it has the potential.
