Brass fittings are soft, If you over tighten them you will break snap and crack. You should tighten it up enough that it is not leaking and that is it. You should also not use adjustable wrenches but the proper size ones. For a half inch kit you will need a 7/8 wrench and a 15/16 wrench.

The part you are screwing into the back of the stove is an "adapter." Both ends are "male" ends. The part that screws into the stove has MIP (male iron pipe) threads. When you use MIP threads, you MUST use pipe sealant or teflon tape to prevent leaks. Think of the sealant as making a gasket between the male iron pipe threads and the female iron pipe threads. I much prefer pipe sealant than teflon tape because I have never had any leaks with sealant. I have had leaks with teflon tape. In my opinion, Teflon tape makes it easier to disassemble parts, so that is a plus. On the other hand, you can wrap the tape in the wrong direction so that it unravels when you turn the male part into the female part. That does not happen with pipe dope/sealant. In my opinion, both teflon tape and sealant act as lubricants making it easier to turn the pipes or fittings. This may help to make a better seal. On the other end of the adapter is a "flare" fitting. A "compression" fitting is a different type of fitting. I don't think that there are compression fittings on brasscraft hoses or adapters for stoves. Logically, I cannot argue against pipe sealant on a flare fitting. Some people say that the sealant can come loose and get blown into a gas valve. I probably have a better chance of getting bit by a shark and hit by lightning at the same time. The natural gas pressure in a residence is about 0.25 psi. That is really low. My bike tires are 100 psi. Pipe dope in a flare fitting might act like a gasket between the male and female flared surfaces. I think Teflon tape would hinder a good connection between the flared surfaces. I have been taught not to use pipe dope on a flared fitting, but I cannot logically argue against it. And yes, I know the difference between pressure and flow rate. Pipe dope is not combustible. Just for the sake of discussion, the threads on the flared side of the adapter are not MIP threads. This helps to make sure that the adapter gets installed correctly. It would have been helpful to see the female side of the flare fitting. You are careful to clean the male side in the video, but what about the female side? It could have crap on it. Thanks for making the video. It takes time to make videos and viewers like me appreciate the effort. It was clear and helpful.

I was very tempted to use the thread sealer on the bottom half of the threads where the flare fitting is, in fact I wish I did. Using it on the bottom 1/2 keeps it away from the flare and at least seals the last half of the threads.
@andrewoverlund14672 жыл бұрын
No you never ever use pipe dope or Teflon tape on a JIC or flared fitting. Second you can’t use just any dope or Teflon tape on gas lines they have to be rated for the gas you are using LP or natural gas. Third it’s not MIP it’s NPT National pipe thread.forth you need to specify what gas you are using. LP gas is completely different than natural gas and you have to convert your appliances. Stop making videos that are wrong. That’s how people blow up their house.

You might add that before you hook up the gas line you should put the range all the way in its space and make any leveling adjustment that may be needed. This is important because if you hook it up and find you have to move the stove in and out of the space to make leveling adjustment you will "work harden" the brass hose which could cause a leak in the hose. Years ago, this was a common occurrence and because of it the put a plastic covering on the hose to contain any leak. In any event if you periodically move your stove to clean behind it you should consider replacing the hose every once and a while.

My gas line is on the floor. The old stove cleared it okay but I just had my new Samsung stove installed and it is sticking out of the wall about 2 inches. He said because of the water line..? which is actually up against the wall behind the stove. Should this be pushed up against the back wall? The gap is horrible looking.He left and now I am afraid to move it back.

When connecting it, it's a good idea to turn off the main gas in case the valve is opened by accident. The valve is good for if you are working inside the appliance but not disconnect the gas hose.

Great video thanks, I would recommend using a 60:1 ratio when making soapy water solution, u wanna start with no bubbles and barely any soap so u can tell if there is a leak it will still bubble up with barely any soap.

I would recommend a leak checking liquid as opposed to soap. On propane stoves, a catch pipe is usually installed to catch rust and other objects that may be present in gas supply pipe.

@PoolarityChannel3 жыл бұрын
Don't do it if you don't have a shutoff. You need a plumber in that case and do it properly through a licensed plumber. Unless you have access to the main shut-off.
@main10633 жыл бұрын
Code in most states and common sense dictates having a shut off valve for ranges gas pipe. Bite the bullet and hire a licenced plumber.
@andrewoverlund14672 жыл бұрын
Shut the main valve off at you gas source. Turn on your stove and let it burn out keep trying till there is no flame. Disconnect gas line making sure no open flames are near you or electronic devices. Determine size of pipe and or flared fittings. Buy a shit off valve and gas rated pipe dope or Teflon tape ONLY for NPT pipe if it’s a flared fitting don’t use dope or tape. Problem solved. Don’t listen to whoever made this video he obviously has no clue what he is doing.

You aren't permitted to use more than 6 ft of flexible connection for a gas line. You won't be able to find a 12 ft one and it's illegal to connect multiple hoses. Your only option is to move the gas connection.

Does anyone have a Samsung with a very tiny gas in-take hole? I got no help from the store where I purchased it (my fault for going with a big box store). Turns out, the hole for the gas line in my range is only 1/4 inch inside diameter! Do I need to send it back? This seems smaller than anything I've read on the internet.
@PoolarityChannel2 жыл бұрын
1/4" diameter might be propane converted, you can google "propane adapter for gas stove" and see if that's what you are seeing. If you bought it new, it should only have the Gas connector without a propane adapter on it

Air pressure? You mean the gas on/off? That level always has to be perpendicular, not parallel, meaning making a + sign instead of parallel = to the pipe to be off.
