Soldering is a skill and my advice is to practice on a few test pieces of old circuit boards before you attempt it on your laptop because you can do more harm than good. You need to get both parts (wire and tab) to the same temperature before applying the solder. Don't leave soldering iron in contact too long otherwise you will melt the plastic surrounding the tab. Note: Never blow on solder to cool it down quicker, this will cause dry joints. Hope this helps ;)

+Ab Sm Not worth the effort, it won't give you much. It's only a laptop and it has many limitations such as cooling possibilities.

Is the CPU soldered onto the motherboard? I have a r505 and would like to upgrade my Athlon 64 X2 QL-62 to a Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core ZM-88. They have the same Socket s1g2 and the same power consumption. It would be a considerable upgrade but i would only do it if the cpu is not soldered onto the motherboard. Would appreciate feedback.

Think I must have not connected something properly. Followed the instructions and fitted back together after cleaning the fan from dust. Can hear windows start up but now only have a white screen. Please tell me where I went wrong so I can fix the problem. Many thanks for your time.
