Love these TVs, I've saved this video for years and you've helped me adjust my set with this procedure. I just got a 67" samsung one (led) that needs a tad of sharpness and I believe you did a video that covered that. Can you mention how I would physically improve sharpness. .. moving the engine in more? I don't recall. the normal on screen adjustments aren't enough. Any thoughts you can share I will appreciate. thank you. Excellent vids.

Thank you for the great video - I enjoy your clear explanation on things. I have an HL61A750 that I just replaced as my main set because it's had this shadow for 2+ years and then the DMD started to pixel-ate over the last 3+ months. I've watched your other videos on that and have pulled my light engine in prep to replace the DMD and now I know how to adjust that shadow out. This set will live on as my secondary set now, thanks again!

rarely do I see bad caps in a DLP set. most likely the color wheel index sensor is going bad once it heats up. also very small possibility of a bad DMD board.

Hi Steve, You have the best and clearest videos on TV repair! They are encouraging for people who want to delve into the fixes themselves. I have the Samsung HL61a750a1FXZA DLP LED TV purchased in 2009. Since the last 6 months, a bright, fat "C" or horseshoe shows up on the left side of the TV. It starts around top center and wraps around the left side to the bottom center. It is there all the time but less visible in the bright scenes. Is this a DLP chip or lens cleaning problem or something worse? I did download a service manual from somewhere. I'd appreciate any help on this as I love the natural colors on this DLP TV. Thanks.

Thanks, i will try to clean the sensor, and if that don't work, then replace it. There is a thermistor on the power supply board that gets super hot, like instantly burns my finger when i touch it, but i don't know how hot a thermistor is supposed to get? That's why i initially thought something was wrong on the power board, but don't think that would explain the colors changing then shutting off. Thanks again you have been a tremendous help!

Hi, just wanted to let you know i use one of your videos to fix the chip on my Samsung HLT6187SAX/XAA. your video was so so informative that it was super easy to fix. Thank you, your video gave me the confidence to attempt the fix and i am so so happy. that was several years ago. I really like my tv that i am wondering whether or not i should fix the newest problem. The problem i'm having now is when i turn on my samsung the screen is blue (searching for signal) and the picture comes on then it goes back to blue screen (searching for signal it stays on blue screen for several seconds some times for nearly 45 seconds or more , after this goes on several more time the picture stabilizes and i'm able to watch a show. Is this something easy that i am able to repair, do you have a video on how to repair this problem? do you sell the necessary parts to make the repairs. If its not to expensive i would like to try repairing my tv. I enjoy fixing things.

Thank you for this video! I replaced my dlp chip in my samsung led dlp and have both the shadow and tilted picture symptoms. Now I know how to adjust them. Is it normal for the plastic box to be loose? It seems like if I slightly push on the upper corners of the front it tilts the picture slightly. Is that just by design or is there something I should look for?

Thanks for your videos. I've replaced my DLP chip with success. However, now I get a flashing LED on startup. Sometimes the picture/sound delays for about 30 seconds. I try to hit the power button or use the remote to turn off but it doesn't work. the screen shows light sometimes and then turns off. Sometimes when the picture does work it glitches and a image will become offset way to the right and down slightly with a green background. I used some canned air to blow off the radiator by taking off the side panel. I looked at the capacitors but I can't tell if they are bulging. The silver tops looked slightly domed. The main large one to the side doesn't look domed. All of the capacitors in a row like like they have a slight dome. One has a tiny brown spot on top. Would you suggest replacing the capacitors?

Hello I was wondering if you could help me out I’m trying to repair power supply on a Samsung hl61a750a1fxza Power supply bp96-01726b. I’m looking for schematic So I can identify the voltages and components values and so on. I am getting about 300 votes to the power supply from the primary power supply. I replaced the, Filter capacitor,resistor and there were two masfets that were bad there was nothing burnt on the board. But a lot of components seem to be bad. On the primary bored I did go ahead and replace the two big capacitors but they were not bad but I did anyway for an upgrade. I’m not an expert trying to learn more about electronics I’m fixing this for a friend appreciate your help thank you I really like your videos.

Hey great videos! I was wondering if you could help me out a bit with a TV I've got. I have samsung hls-6187. The picture is quite dark; it is hard to see during the daytime or if there is any lights turned on in the back of the room. I replaced the lamp/ballast but that did not seem to help very much. I also notice a shadow appearing, it is about 1/3 of the right side of the screen and it appears on and off (especially if the picture on the screen is a dark scene). I was wondering if this would more likely be a light tunnel issue, a color wheel issue, or something else completely. Any input would be great; I'm just debating whether or not it is worth the money investment on this TV any longer. Thanks a bunch!

I have an hlt6187sx/xaa with led engine. this model can be a little confusing while researching but it is made just like video shown here. The tv was taking longer and longer to power up and having to be unplugged at times when previous owner had it but eventually would not do anything. No lights nothing. I got it and changed the caps on it and is now working but still has some issues. First off i could not find the 5 caps( 2200uf 25 volt 105c) that was on the original psb so put mixed matched set to see if it worked.I found two 2200uf 25volt 105c. One 2200uf 35volt 105c. And two 2200uf 50volt 85c.The first three i believe are ok and maybe even last two 50volts ok but worried about the 85c.The other three were only high temp (105c) i could find without going down to 16volt. Its only been a few days so tv has not been off that many times but has only come on the first try once.Its came on the second try everytime except this last time which took three and got hung up where none of the buttons on tv would work or on the remote.Volume seemed to be on much higher level than usual too. Had to unplug and powered back up with remote on first try and works fine. It comes on with flashing green light for 30 seconds or so and goes out till eventually goes to standby mode with steady red light. No clicking can be heard though. Its seems as if all is working except picture coming up. I can see that led is on the engine with screen lit up some and volume. A couple of times after green light went out and before red standby light came on i pressed on button again and screen popped up. On button not power button. And the green light comes on one time just before picture. Maybe it just came on same time but sure seemed like pressing on button is what did it. Cause like i said everything else was working like its suppose to with the dimmer led light from engine lighting screen up some. Only when i pressed on again did the brighter light come on to give picture. If i dont press the on button again it goes back in standby mode having to press the power button again and starting over. I have very limited knowledge and wonder if the 85c caps causing this. But after doing some more research im thinking maybe its a problem on the main psb and thats whats caused the caps on LED psb to go bad in first place. Or maybe something to do with Led engine. This tv had the white dot issue and had to be serviced before i got it so i think DLP chip has been replaced. Ive read several posts and in online manual that this is not a 1080p set but this one is and wonder if dlp chip is why. Ive always loved the picture this tv has and now after cleaning the blu,green, and red heat sinks its even better. Especially the deep reds! Any advice or answers?? thx

Great video. I have a different problem. I have a Mitsubishi WD 65 837 65 inch DLP TV. I had to replace the DLP chip because of the white spot problem. Now the white spot problem is gone, but with a black screen when the lamp is on I see large irregular blotches 2 to 8 inches in size of dark grey.. As soon as the lamp goes out completely these spots disappear. Looks like some light leakage. I did have to take the light engine out to change the chip. The video on the screen looks pretty good but in any black ares where these blotches are they must be reducing the black level. Any ideas of what can be done to fix this?
@carlosbob44

There's two possibilities here, 1 there's dust on the chip you replaced or 2 there's dust on the projector itself. My guess is you have dust on the chip (mirror side) which you'll just need a microfiber cloth and gently remove the dust. You can shine a flashlight on it to better see the dust.

I now have a issue with my Samsung DLP 50" hlt-5087s it is pretty close doing the something has the previous poster, I turn it on it makes the chiming sound the right green light blinks many times but picture stays black sometimes it cycles on its own it clicks off then left red and center green and right green lights turn on then just the right green light blinks a few times after a few times the picture might turn but most of the time I need to turn the TV on and off about ten times and then the picture will come on and work fine with great picture. Do you think that it is just a bad led light or could it be another component that needs to be replaced? I love the TV and would hate to replace it. Hello and thank you for you informative video. I have the same tv as the one you are working on here. HLT6187SAX/XAA. I built an entertainment center to fit the tv and I would just buy a new tv except I can't find another one that fits the opening like this one does and when it works the picture is great. It is hard to find a tv repair shop in my area. They all seem to be out of business. I finally found one that came out and looked at my tv. The guy knew nothing about it. It called Samsung and they were unfamiliar as well. They said they only worked on this tv twice all year last year. So the problem that I'm having is it would get hot and shut itself down. All fans are working. I replaced the main power supply board (got on Ebay used cause it's not available anymore) and I thought it was fixed. I also replaced the led power supply but it did not make any improvements. That board was new $115. It worked perfect for 3 or 4 days and then it didn't shut down like it was doing but the screen went black like the lamp went out but don't think that this tv has a lamp. I am clueless. Any help would be appreciated and I will even pay for advise. The email that is connected to this KZbin account is a email that I don't get mail from. I dont know how it works but if I need this email to see a response I probably won't get it. If you could use alshapiro@grandcamino.com that would be great. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hiya norca715! love your troubleshooting videos very professional. I have a problem with my HLT6187s and hoping you may have come across this before or perhaps you have an idea what component issue may be. The screen is intermittently going dark for a few seconds and getting more frequent, the tv is still on as i can hear audio when the screen goes dark so its not power cycling.. i'm not an expert diagnostician as you are :), but i think i narrowed it down to the DMD board, my SMPS and Sub SMPS checked out fine all voltages are present, so i suspected the led driver.. But then i learned from the service manual there is a dip switch on the driver to let it run in "internal mode" which would let it power regardless of the DMD signals.. so i did that and sure enough the screen didn't go out.. am i on the right track here? id like to attempt to repair whatever faulty component is causing this rather than completely replace the DMD board, but this is where i am stuck i can only guess looking at the diagram i'm not sure how i would test the signals to the led driver, but your educated guess would be very welcome :D

+Jaime Valencia I see u were on here 3 weeks ago and hoping u can help. Or Norcal which would be awesome too. I also have the led dlp HLT6187s. Had problems cycling and coming on. So I replaced the caps on led psb and it came on for a year or more but would cycle several times and tries but always goes back in standby mode where before would lock up and have to be unplugged. Red phlat led light went out so replaced that. I always knew I had another problem and suspected the main psb had bad caps because it got to where it would take 10 tries cycling thru each time always going back to standby mode before finally came on. I want to say the green light blinks like 27 times and 17 time has a slight longer pause than others. Well TV finally turned off on its on for first time and now only cycles and will not come on. It has sound that cuts in and out while cycling with dim backlight but just goes back to standby mode. So I figured it was caps on main psb. I heated up with hair dryer and tv starts right up but eventually gets this distorted pic with squeeching sound then sound comes back but picture sometimes stays distorted or just goes back black then shuts down again. I replaced caps on main psb thinking that was it since it come on faster than ever, first try, with hair dryer heat. But still have same problem. But the repair kit only came with 9 of the 11 caps that are on board. Im going to replace those too but now im wondering if its a fets or resistor or some other part on main psb or if it could be main board cause its right under main psb board and could be getting something warm there too allowing to come on. I can hook it up apart and rule out and try with hair dryer heat but hate doing it worried ill hurt it more. I think its called main board as its the one with rca, hdmi, component, etc etc etc. I think the DMD board is in the Led Engine and the Led is over on left side facing front. I hate to buy another board, if can even find one, if its only one part on it especially now has 9 0f 11 caps new. Or worse and be the board under it. Any advice??

One of the fans is not reporting a tach signal back the the system control. make sure all fans are indeed rotating. Measure the voltages on the yellow leads of the fans. The one that is different is the bad fan. If you stall a good fan, the voltage on the yellow lead should go from a high voltage (3-12V) to a low voltage (less than 1V)
