I always would go for the larger screen. I know Apple is a great display, but for my personal use I do not need anything more than 60Hz as I do not game on my computers. I would like the M8 had a bit more brightness. Speakers are adequate for a TV but on my MacBook I will always either use the MacBook speakers or headphones. Now, the biggest driver for the M8 is the price and it totally wins. The display should be IPS for sure, VA... is good for gaming when you sit in front of it.

I think the two displays are going after different markets. The pixel density on the Samsung monitor will not convert anyone who wants a very sharp display regardless of its price. That is the Studio’s main selling point (5K, 218 PPI). Those who like having a bigger screen and don’t care about pixel density will be happy with the Samsung. I don’t think anyone who would buy a Samsung would really buy the Apple monitor and vice versa. They are just different animals and really aren’t comparable. For me, I ended up finally giving in and getting a Studio Display because I have bad eyes after undergoing retina and cataract surgery. I need that sharpness, which my other monitors can’t match (I also have an LG 38” ultrawide and Samsung Odyssey G9 with about half the pixel density). If I need to read text, I’ll move whatever app I need to the Studio Display. The Samsung TV features are cool, but I’d rather have my actual Samsung 65” TV.

I really tried to buy the Samsung to use with a Studio. When I went into Best Buy to buy it they had an open box Studio Display and I bought both planning on probably returning the Apple. When I had them both up and I was comparing them my wife walked in and asked what was wrong with the Samsung. No amount of tweaking could make it look anywhere close to the Apple so I ended up spending far more than I wanted to by returning the Samsung. I would be stay clear from this display for anyone using MacOS, it's display ppi falls under the inefficient zone. So if your Mac has to scale the UI (because 4k content on a 32" screen will appear too small) your Mac will not linearly scale your resolution. So you'll end up using significant gpu power and will drastically lower the performance of your Mac. That's the reason for the 5k res on the apple display, it's to fall under the correct ppi zone.

I contacted Samsung Product Support and chatted the technician for a link to download the manuals. The Product Support Technician said I would have to contact a Technical Support Technician for that technical kind of information. If you buy this monitor you have to join the Samsung Ecosphere. @@alirava9865 That could be the thinking, but it is going to backfire on them. Look what really made Apple go from a popular computer and music player company the the worlds biggest tech company - the iPhone. It eventually destroyed the iPod, but the gains were worth the product cannibalism. I feel an Apple TV is a product that is typically connected to a large screen TV, so I don’t think it would affect sales too much in that regard either. Looks at their software lately - I’ve had issues with my iPhone, my iPad, and even macOS. My first Mac was a 2010 27” iMac running snow leopard - and it blew the doors off Windows and my PC’s. My Galaxy S21 Ultra runs more stable then my iPhone 13 pro max - although it has issues as well at times. My point is, Apple is a Genius company - at times - but it has had its fair share of duds as well. This monitor is a disappointment for its price tag, and the fact they have seemingly eliminated the 27” iMac from their lineup is a shame. (I still think they will bring it back next year, however.) @kes65412 жыл бұрын
I think the M8 is much better value than the Studio Display, but personally I would've preferred they skip the smart TV features to focus on better sound and less vignetting. Another company producing something like that at this price would seriously embarrass Apple. Can't really justify paying for features I won't use when it's missing a few tweaks I'd get a lot out of. That said, they may well release something like that next, seeing how many people have bought this product primarily as an external monitor. My interest was piqued by the adjustable height, the lack of overt branding on the front, and the larger size, so there's not much else on the market at this price point that I'd even consider. Good effort, Samsung! ETA: Just seen this is currently £594 with a student discount. That changes everything.

About the camera "If apple did that, they'd probably charge a few hundred dollars extra for it". More like at least 1000$. I mean we're talking about the company that charges 700$ for wheels and 400$ for a height adjustment system for their displays. So... I doubt it'd be less.

Samung M8 has 168 ppi - that will cause scaling issues on Mac because it's too far away from either 120 or 220 ppi. Apple Studio Display has 218 ppi and is therefore perfectly optimized for Apples UI. Macs and 4k displays are not a very good combination. 5K resolution (5120 x 2880) has to be scaled down to half (2560 x 1440) and is then re-scaled to the actual resolution of the monitor. You will see this in performance issues in 3D or video rendering.
2 жыл бұрын
That’s true. When non default scaling is used, and with 32 4K it should be 3008x1692 to match 109PPI of 27” 1440p then performance drops in certain apps like e.g. Blender. People who work mostly with text, programmers etc. may not notice this.
