The Samsung Odyssey series is very popular with their always being a cool reason to buy one of the monitors such as the 1000R curve some have or the mini leds with high local dimming zones. That's why this G7 variation seems to come out of left field and go against the normal grain of what the G7 series monitors have been. This is basically a large smart TV disguised as a monitor but that might not be a bad thing, it just depends on what you need and want out of your monitor. There is plenty of upside here for people to enjoy but if you don't need or want some of the features here it might not be the best monitor for you. If you have any questions about this monitor that I don't answer in the video let me know in the comment section and I'll answer that for you there.

Thank you for the review! You've convinced me to pick this instead of the Aorus FV43U. Don't care much about ghosting as i don't play as much as I used to, I just hope text is fine as i need it for programming. As soon as it gets here, I will have a look at the other 2 videos you posted about HDR and non-HDR settings for "quality of life" improvements. Thanks again for taking the time to explain things and getting the right settings for this smart "monitor". Cheers!

Thanks for providing such as elaborate review. I actually switched to using an LG C3 monitor with 120 hz refresh rate instead of using Samsung Neo G7 43 inch monitor. It has an OLED panel which was far more superior in my opinion to mini-LED and the size is about the same (42 inch). Therefore, made a return. But thanks again for the review and elaborate insights.

I got one of these for $500 for Black Friday, and jumped on it before reading reviews based on my son being happy with the Neo G8 32". I am using it for its smart hub and Airplay 2, and using the bluetooth out for my Audioengine HD4 speakers with an SVS Sub. It's much better with my PC than my old Asus VG27AQ 27" 1440p monitor that Ive been using for thew past 2 years. I have the G8 OLED on my MacMini M2 Pro 12/19 core, and if that wasn't $899 vs $500 I might have bought another one for my bedroom PC...

I have zero complaints using this solely for gaming on a Series X. I'm slowly building a monster of a PC rn. Hopefully the great experience I'm having so far on console will translate nicely to using it as a primary monitor. There'll no doubt be several firmware updates by the time my build is complete. So far, the $600.00 I payed feels like a steal.

@@mattheworelup I already unboxed it and have used it for a day now, main reason I bought is for my setup, I have a 45 inch area through the wall where I wanted to have a screen for my ps5, this one is the best monitor/tv i came across and for 500$ which was a great deal when comparing other options. But can I ask what issues did you have that were “as designed”?.
@mattheworelup
@mattheworelup 10 ай бұрын
@@visiionz_6699 So I feel as though the display port sleep issue is "as designed" because i assume it is the smart tv software on it that is causing the problem. Never had a monitor have this kind of issue before. I'm not sure if ps5 has a sleep mode as well for display but may want to try that out a bit. Just set your monitor to sleep after a minute, step away for a few then come back and move the mouse and see what happens for you. also I assume "as designed" since this has been out for a while with firmware updates, and i've found a lot of people commenting about the problem. BGR for me i thought wouldn't be a big problem, and text is a "little" fuzzy but i'm not sure if that is more to due with me being more used to IPS rather than VA. I do notice that sometimes when using darkmode, the text is a grey color and any scrolling of the text makes it momentarily turn white as it scrolls. Cleartype helps but everything else still has that slight fuzzy feel. The USB hub is only kinda usable imo, anything plugged into the hub restarts when the monitor comes out of sleep (on hdmi) (it's like the monitor turns off then back on when it does). This is more of a nitpick since i can just switch types of devices plugged into it so it doesn't matter BUT that is the reason your windows may not be in the right location after coming back from sleep mode. With using a PS5 the ghosting/smudging motion causes may cause you to not like the screen long term. I thought it wouldn't bother me because i'm not really a "monitor snob" (heck i'm planning on switching to an edge lit 38 inch ips), but when i compared it to my 27 inch 144hz ips from 3 years ago i was AMAZED at how bad that was. I was expecting to just go "oh it'll not be as bad as reviewers make it out" and instead i went "holy shit how is it that bad" Not saying it is all bad though, i love the fact that i can essentially single screen use this with about 6 functional windows being usable at once. Watching video even in SDR is really nice for me personally, I watched a couple TV shows on it using the built in speakers and I liked it. The price is low enough that even with everything i said above it is REALLY hard for me to take it back next week (though 42 inch i feel is just a little bigger than i'm liking). But a lot of that would be the same with almost any other large format monitor too (except price). Value wise for $500 it has a lot of value, but personally the downsides were enough to make me consider paying more for something later.

I've used a Samsung VA panel (49" 5120x1440, CRG9) for almost 3 years now, and I'm definitely a "hardcore" PC gamer (RTX 4090, i9 13900K, high-end VR headset etc). The VA ghosting has never really bothered me. I was originally looking at the 48" Asus OLED panel, but it has a serious issue which has not been resolved in a whole year, meaning it likely never will, so I'm ordering one of these instead. Hopefully any glaring issues will present themselves within the return window. I never wanted to buy another Samsung monitor, but once again it's the only brand that fits my wanted specs, since Asus came up short on theirs. I strongly dislike the TV-styled menu, but from experience I know that I hardly ever touch the menu on a monitor once I have it set up, so it would be foolish to disregard the monitor because of that.

Great review! One thing to keep in mind when always comparing these with OLEDs, is the size and the market. Not everybody buys this for gaming only I work on these kind of monitors for a good couple of years and usually I focus on some part of the screen while the other is static... That being said, I fear an OLED will have burnouts in these conditions. It might be better at other things but unfortunately not at this(yet)
@mytimetravellingdog
@mytimetravellingdog 11 күн бұрын
Yeah, I want a big non-oled 4k monitor for gaming, work and tv etc. I also want it to last for 5+ years. No chance of that with OLED burn in. Which leaves my options really limited. This is one of the few real options out there. Everyone seems to be going OLED for gaming monitors. And I'm just still not sure if I want this with the ghosting.
@sa2bin909
@sa2bin909 11 күн бұрын
@mytimetravellingdog ghosting is a downside on this, true... 5 years, unfortunately I can not guarantee, mine lasted 30 days.... It's the first monitor to break down in my entire life. Bad luck? It may be, but it had software issues all down the line from minute 0. The most annoying one, if the monitor entered sleep mode, I could not bring it back without turning Game mode on and off, regardless of the state of the PC... and the list can go on from here on... For me, it was the worst monitor experience, but it could be the unit itself was flawed to begin with

Others are reporting that this monitor has only a little over 300 local dimming zones (it's the monitor version of the 43" QN90C tv). The 32" Odyssey Neo G7 is the one with over 1,100 zones. It doesn't help that Samsung uses the same model name for different monitors. BTW, yours are the only reviews I'm aware of which go over every single settings option.

Your strobing on 144 is because your camera is at a different refresh rate, 120 or a multiple there of, 30, 60, or 120 fps, so you are catching refresh by running a multiple of 30 by a multiple of 144. It's not a monitor issue, just a timing issue, like the tires turning backwards on wagons and cars on some movies.

I Recently bought a MacBook Pro and yes this is going to be so odd, but could I in any way use my Old ThunderBolt Display circa like 2014, and this monitor as a dual monitor. I never really used the Thunderbolt Display cause right after i bought it I Traveled for work 20 days out of the month for years. I know i need a Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 to connect to the new MacBook Pro, but simultaneously using the thunderbolt as a reg Mac monitor and having this one as a TV/Gaming/PC/mac monitor would be cool i thought. Totally open to suggestions but i don’t want to break the bank buying a bunch of different monitors. I will be getting a PS5, the MacBook Pro will be my personal computer, but i also WFH 2-3 days a week and would like to use the Thunderbolt Display and this monitor at the same time if possible interchangeable from my Mac and work Dell Laptop, but i haven’t searched the U Tube or Google to see if that is even possible. Again any good feedback is welcomed. Or am i even crazy for considering an old Thunderbolt Display, or should i just opt the hassle of the old tech sell it on ebay for the most i can get and buy two of these as a dual monitor setup for the mac, PC, PS5 and TV options.

What would you say is the best monitor for gaming on Ps5? I’ve been pondering the 43” Neo G7 bc I already game on a tv that size but now just looking for something that can run 4k @ 120hz. The 32” G7 seems better when thinking about monitor size but then again the 43” is on a major sale so it seems hard to pass up. Plus maybe It wouldn’t be as bad if I’m already used to gaming on such a big tv. What would you say is the best bang for my buck ? 1k for the 32” G7 is just not looking the best compared to the 43” @ 500$.

With Black Friday around the corner, this might be my only buy at $500. (Currently, I only truly want two things for Black Friday, a second monitor, and a subwoofer.) The main issue, is that I have the G5 27" 1440p already. I don't want to get a second 1440p, because I want 4K. The standard G7 is sized at 28", and is literally $50 more on sale than the 43" Neo counterpart. As far as OCD and matching panels are concerned, I don't want the _same_ panel, and the next step up isn't going to be the right size _anyway._ So I might as well say screw it, and get this for $50 cheaper. Mind you, I barely game, and if I do, it's not FPS worthy gaming. (My partner plays Animal Crossing, and occasionally RE, while I play games like Portal 2 and the Spider-Man games.) Not to forget we both wear glasses, and I can never get mine clean, so I probably wouldn't even notice the ghosting anyway.

@@mattheworelup The PG38UQ is available where I'm at, looks nice! I ended up ordering a PG42UQ. Before the G7 I was using a 48" LG C2 and with my desk setup (it's 36 inches deep and the C2 was wall mounted) it was just a little bit to big for me. The main issue I had was the glossy screen and reflections were so distracting with any light behind me. As nice as the C2 is it's just not a monitor. I saw the sale on the G7and thought ok this is a good price for a 43" with a matte screen, but I guess there was a reason for the price. Completely agree with you about Ultrawides. Get a LG C2 42 inch, it's almost the same price now, for gaming you don't need to worry about burn-in which is the only drawback with OLED, it's superior in all other ways especially in response time (0.1ms), besides, all these "1ms" non-OLED displays can't really do 1ms. For IPS vs VA, IPS has better viewing angles, better text clarity, faster response time, worse contrast.

I bought one. The ghosting is... quite frankly insane. My first gen 34" feels much better than this. Which is a shame. By far the biggest negative. Text clarity is OK but not great. Speakers are fine, more TV-like than PC monitor. Since this is basically a bastardized TV, my old Samsung TV has way better remote and the interface is faster on the TV. (TV cost about the same as the Neo G7 5+ years ago). Available settings are OK. Build Quality is much more in line with TV than their other crap monitors. Base is stable etc. Positive. I seriously doubt this has 1000+ dimming zones. I read somewhere that it's ~400-500 but I cant find the source. You'll need to keep the monitor *very* far back to enjoy it properly. Overlooked this one myself. The 32" Neo G7 slaps this one so fucking hard for gaming and text clarity, but I cannot live with the curve of that one. I paid ~$900 on sale. For $600 this is a great buy as an all round monitor but it's mediocre at everything except speakers compared to other alternatives.

If your laptop has an HDMI output, then yes. Just be aware that if your laptop's screen is 1080p or 1440p and you use the G7 at 4k, you'll take a nasty performance hit due to your GPU rendering at a higher resolution. If you set the G7 at the same resolution as your laptop's screen, then you shouldn't see a performance hit.

Comparing to an OLED is hard because the response of a VA panel can’t compete with OLED, the infinite contrast and insane number of local dimming zones because each pixel is backlight make the picture quality incredible. The downside is VA panels get brighter while OLEDs can have a peak brightness of 200-300 nits. OLEDs can also have burn in. The technology is just way different so it’s a long list of pros and cons.
