To understand Motion Clarity: The Blur Busters Law: blurbusters.com/blur-busters-law-amazing-journey-to-future-1000hz-displays-with-blurfree-sample-and-hold/ 1 millisecond(ms) of persistence is equal to 1 pixel of motion blur when moving at 1000 pixels per second (Blur Busters Law) A 960Hz OLLED (closely follows the Blur Busters Law due to ideal GtG for the refresh rate) would look perfectly clear at 960 pixels per second (ufo test), which means 1 pixel of motion blur (considered perfect at a normal viewing distance). 60 Hz is a frequency of 60 per second. Each second the display can refresh 60 frames. 1/60×1000~16.67ms 1/100x1000=10ms 1/120×1000~8.33ms 1/240x1000~4.17ms 1/480x1000~2.08ms (I said this wrong in the video) The LG C1 reduces the persistence ~33-38% when using OLED Motion pro high (based on my testing), and it works at 50, 60, 100, 120fps/Hz. 60fps/Hz OLED motion pro high 38% of 16.67ms is 38x16.67/100=6.33ms 100fps/Hz OLED motion pro high 38% of 10ms is 38x10/100=3.8ms 120fps/Hz OLED motion pro high 38% of 8.33ms Is 38x8.33/100=3.17ms The best motion clarity the C1 achieves is 3 pixels of motion blur when moving at 1000 pixels per second

I agree with you about the C1's flicker, it's different for everyone but for me it's been easy to adapt at 60hz, and after 100hz it is gone completely, it just doesn't flicker. And I'm equally disappointed about the nerf to oled motion pro on the C2/C3/C4. I still hope LG goes back on their decision.. otherwise I'll simply never upgrade from the C1. I use 120hz oled motion pro all the time! It's even better these days with strong CPUs, framegen, software BFI solutions are being developed, etc

Actually the true legend of them all is the one and only LG CX/GX - it produces the same motion clarity as c1 at 120fps even at 60fps. So in essence it turns 60 fps into a completely blur-free image. It’s that good.

Interesting, I had no idea about all the little details regarding BFI not being created equal in their genuine quality. Happy to hear you say you'll give settings and still try to use it as best you can. Maybe when Hell freezes over, we can come back to a proper BFI implementation at 120hz. Super interested to hear about your testing and findings out! Thanks so much.

I recently got a free panel swap on my 48C1, due to dead pixels on the edges. Guess what, I lost 120 hz BFI after the swap, even though the motherboard is unchanged. I'm guessing the new panel is from C4 production line. It says manufactured on Sept 2024 on the back of the panel. Seems to me that Tcon board post C1 can't do 120hz BFI. The 60 hz BFI still works fine and the Vrr flicker got much worse. So, take care of your C1, its more fragile than you think.

Great breakdown. I get why they wouldn't bother with this feature 5+ years ago where console games were barely 60 frames, now almost any good multiplayer game has 120 support now. So silly they refuse to bring it back. I'm happy I was able to snatch one second hand.

Ultra informative as always! Can't wait to see your tests on self emission causing lifted blacks. It seemed clearly there, at least on camera, with your in store s95c review. At say 7:11, there are seemingly very self lifted blacks. For instance, in the middle and right of the lower letterbox bar, the left side of the bar is much darker. At the same time, there is an image bright in the middle bottom and towards the right side of the screen. I wonder about localization and the threahold effect for visibility.

This is exactly what I was looking for. While the brightness is FAR superior on the S95C, the LG C1’s OLED Motion Pro on High is legendary, especially at higher FPS like 100 & 120hz. Why can’t Samsung implement a similar setting vs software BFI…? I cannot wait for you to try the 2K nits mod on the S95C. It’s INSANE on a 1% window & still quite high on a 10%.

I tried Red Dead Redemption 1 last night at 120 HZ BFI on my C1 and its absolutely amazing. Pretty easy to run too. I can hold 4K 120 max settings DLAA with my RTX 3090 95% of the time. I might have to use DLSS Quality if I want some spare headroom to guarantee a locked 120 no matter what goes on in the game. Wouldn't have this problem with Gsync Pulsar where a drop to 105-110 fps wouldn't be noticed that much.

480 hz is 2ms of pixel persistence.If you want better motion out of your QD OLED you need a retrotink 5x or 4k (either will work. They support a software configurable BFi. the tradeoff off course is brightness, but the tink offers HDR boosted BFI.

Yes, I made that mistake. I don't believe that any external device can give you lower persistence than the maximum refresh rate. I asked the Blur Busters chief that question a long time ago, and he said no, it was not going to work

For the people who are considering using BFI. (If your playing with flick-stick instead of dragging your stick from side to side and your at a high sensitivity, BFI doesn’t help it just lowers brightness and flickers and makes latency less good)

@ LG C4 looks better then S90C atleast as far as I know from my testing, by QD-OLES is brighter full screen in most bright scenes and colour volume ”brightness” is boosted somewhat over C4, but most content looks about the same after calibration and LG has a way cleaner interface and the user experience is better. Motion interpolation is the only way to eliminate stuttering of low fps content. At 24 or 30fps you get stuttering, and stuttering becomes motion blur when increasing the FPS

Bro I used the bfi couple of times and it look nothing like 158 games . Where you took this numbers perception ? BFI clears the motion a little bit but it’s not 150 frames perception , not only for my eyes but for everyone I showed the feature .
@paQ7511 сағат бұрын
It does not mean that you see the scenes with the SMOOTHNESS of 158fps but rather the CLARITY that you would get in a sample and hold panel like these OLED at 158fps. If you play at 120fps on the LG C1, in addition to the smoothness of 120fps, when you activate BFI High you get the MOTION CLARITY as if you were playing at 312fps. It's a little difficult to understand the concepts, but in summary it could be said that by activating BFI you eliminate part of the blur effect that these panels produce in motion at low framerates (but you don't improve the smoothness).

The UFO test also has examples of how it would look like in games too. I reccommend checking that too and also change up the speeds (pixel/sec). You'll prob see that at higher speed things will still look sharp and a lot less so when not using bfi.
