Transparent display is very important for the future AR glasses. The display isn't there yet. But this is how you get there. The display needs to be as transparent as normal glasses. It's like 50-60% there. This is the most important display technology right now.
@AlexFoster229111 ай бұрын
Cant happen. There are LEDs embedded in that screen. They will always block light coming from the other side. They cannot exist in another dimension. And light going through a piece of glass with bits inside of it will always appear darker than if there were not LEDs in there.

Or they could just do like they do now and use a decent camera with a much better display. It probably isn’t as much cost effective or lag free as a transparent display but it will also make it a worse VR device since you cannot fully block the light. With that display.

The way current ar glasses work is to use the pepper's ghost setup where light doesn't pass thru the display but is reflected at 45 degrees off a prism/birdbath optics. This way you can see the display but also everything else through the glass optics.
@martinomg11 ай бұрын
@@AlexFoster2291 not necessarily. That's only applicable in a context where image and the surface where image is rendered is flat. Lenses are not flat, nor the way the eye renders images. I do see a lot of ways to make partial projections or even pixels that with some angle can create the required partial rendering that is needed for AR, which is the most complex task for this application. I work in Geospatial imaging software and you kind of build a geo image based on various features and angles to achieve a desired projection (for instance in images with multiple layers of sensors). Considering pixels are like small colored directional light bulbs it could be possible to use that to build projections suited for the eyes with only a fraction of the surface that is generating the image. The meta quest pro already handles pretty well eye tracking doing the rendering with a camera based AR, so we kind of know where to point. This tech + directional pixels + eye tracking tech + some months worth of meta/apple/samsung engineers could get us there pretty fast 😝

Proposal: Layer 10-15 transparent displays in front of each other, and display holographic/volumetric video that displays on each consecutive layer. Then, at the back have a panel of Privacy Smartglass which can be turned opaque or transparent with the switch of a button. "Privacy Smartglass, also referred to as privacy glass or switchable glass, is electric switchable glass with adjustable opacity. It uses electro-chromatic technology to interchange between transparency and an opaque state by applying voltage." That way you could turn the display into more of a regular television (that wasn't see-through) when you wanted.
