Samsung washing machine not spinning
This video will show you how to identify your 3e error code fault and replace the motor or carbon brushes
3E error code is a Motor tacho fault detected
Can also be caused by be main PCB
If the motor tacho signals are inputted less than 2 for 2 seconds after main drive motor started, this error will occur on normal brush motors and direct drive motors
Check carbon brushes if fitted
Check motor capacitor
Check motor
Check motor tacho
Check all connections and blocks to the motor
Check connections on the main control module
Check main control module

Thanks Paul, I got Error 3E 3 weeks ago and i fixed it thanks to this video. The issue with my machine that the spring that is loaded in the carbon brushes were jamed and stopped one of the brushes from connecting to the comutator. after applying pressure onto the carbon brush releasing the blockage on the spring and it extended again. Since the motor was out I cleaned the comutator with Alcohol and dry paper towel. Fingers crossed and it worked like a charm. Calling the technician to have a look was 70-100 dollars alone and if he replaced the brushes, another 30-40 dollars. This video saved me 100-130 dollars. Took about 3 hours of man hours since my washer was washer/Dryer stacked unit and pulling it out of the closet by myself was quite the feet. This beer is on me, Cheers.

Excellent, mine was getting this error as well (was taking water but was never turning), same if I do an empty spinning went from 12 min to 11 but then no turn and getting back to 12 until the 3E arrive. I the just removed the belt, then remove the 2 screws to remove the motor. Then checked the brushes (which seems to be 50% used which is not abnormal after 6 years running at 10 wash+ per week). Then when mounting back ensuring the connector of brushes were cleaned and change as well a ground wire that was going to the drum as connector was broken. After all this, was running well the empty spin as well as a normal program ; super !

Worked for me too! The motor wasn't spinning, but after cleaning the comutator and reseating the carbon brushes, it works just fine. Many thanks for this vid! :D

Problem reoccured after 3 days. :( Hopefully replacing the carbon brushes will fix it for good.

With my Samsung, I only had to change the carbon brushes. the Samsung pumped water in and just stayed in the program with the error 3E stand without turning the drum ... Plug & water out, then screwed on the back, engine loosened on two screws - carefully, because of the two cables of the Carbons! Then the carbon brushes changed for about 15 euros - very simple - even for the layman!!!

My washing machine is displaying error messages 4C or 4E, and all attempts to clean the hoses and filters have been unsuccessful. The water inlet and outlet seem to be fine, and there is no blockage at least. The internal area also appears to be in good condition. The error message occurs after approximately 1 hour and can only be resolved by selecting the Rinse and Spin option. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this error? Thank you for the video. I bought the carbon brushes but the angle is the opposite of the used one. Does that matter? The motor is a welling too and similar brushes as the video.

Check the locator tabs. Sometimes you can install the new brushes into the old brush casings.

Cambia los carbones que se consumieron con la rotación. Tiene los originales que vienen listos para atornillar. De no conseguirlos se compran los carbones y respetando la posición se reemplazan soldándolos a la cinta de cobre del original.

Thank you - we called the Samsung support (in Sweden) and they say "It is the circuit board" and said they could mend it at a very high cost. Then we looked at this, did the same thing, and the machine is working again. Shame on Samsung support and thum up for you!

Superb video, many thanks, no more dirty laundry. This fix was even easier than I thought it would be. For anyone else wondering if the brushes are the problem, a sure sign in my case was a fine black coating of carbon dust on everything near the motor.

Hi there, my samsung machine has this '3e' error - model number WD8704RJD. The drum wont turn and when trying to move it with my hand inside, it makes a scraping noise extemely hard to turn, like the whole drum has lost its correct seating. Is this motor issue? Please help as Samsung support says 3E.... but their aftersales support company thinks it could be a mainboard issue also?! I asked, surely thats electrical where this seems mechanical.....they wouldnt comment. Basically, if its a motor issue, Samsung will cover it... if not, im on m own. Thanks!

But in my case, I bought a new model of Samsung eco bubble since 2 years ago. And till then my 2 Pcb cards got burst at the output or supply side of the motor. In my machine there is simple induction motor without brushes. I do check it once again after i watched out your video but i found none brushes. One thing is quiet astonish, by physically moving the rotor of my motor then it generates electricity of 30 VAC at terminals on around 100 RPM and I dont know why. Technicians of PCB card always saying the causes are due to the reverse votages. And for that I physically go to the motor technician and showed my motor to him. He replied motor is ok. And in last I checked my wire then wire is also perfect. So what in my case the issue is?? 😊😊😊

I am sorry to say it is quite common to have an inverter board go on your washing machine. It would have to be very fine and done correctly. You want to be using a maximum of 1000 wet and dry. But it is much better to use the correct equipment. You can find a commutator stick, which is specially designed for cleaning amateurs.

Heheh, how-2-repair.com, you didn't know a difference between the name "Christmas" and the name "Thanksgiving"? LOL, how does that work? Hey, also, here in the USA, because Thanksgiving is about a month before Christmas and people here tend to do a lot of Christmas shopping, they usually like to take the day right after Thanksgiving to do a lot of that shopping. Over the decades it has gotten so big that more and more stores have opened earlier and earlier for the big-sale day now known as "Black Friday" (as a reference to the phrase "in the black," meaning no red pen ink in the financial books for that period because of a lot of money being made. In the more recent years these early openings (besides grocery stores and fuel stations which have often been open for much of the day anyway) have encroached upon the holiday itself, earlier and earlier into the evening, for what's now starting to be nicknamed "Gray Thursday"! I think the more years that go by, the more Thanksgiving will be more like our Independence Day where many businesses remain open all day even though that's a major federal holiday too. A lot of people (including my siblings and parents in just the last 4 years or so now) even like to go watch a movie on that day some time after the big dinner. Thanksgiving is named after the pilgrimage from probably your area of the world (you're in the UK, right?) to here, where native Americans helped the pilgrims get bounteous gardens going and the pilgrims gave thanks to them and God for the great help!
