Wow, Samuel! I just did it on my iPad Pro using iMovie app and it worked! - screen shot my note taking using the black template - added the video on my existing video as CUTAWAY - highlighted the video (note taking) and then clicked OVERLAYS then I added volume on STRENGTH and voila! It worked just like how you present it!

Your video literally saved my bachelor thesis product. I was planning to incorporate this style of drawing in my video, but it just would not work in premiere. Then I was notified about your upload, watched it, downloaded the Final Cut Trial and spent the night editing everything in Final Cut. The results were perfect! Thank you so much!
@neilsebastian2 жыл бұрын
It will work in Premiere lol it’s a very simple effect. Premiere can easily change a video’s blending mode to Add.
@LukeBares2 жыл бұрын
First of all: Yes, Premiere also had additive blend modes, although they are names differently (linear dodge). Secondly, have you tried doing this in Premiere with an iPad recording? The problem is not the blend mode, the problem is due to some color space mismatch that happens. There are lots of articles about it and no easy fix. Black on the iPad recordings will have a purple tint. Therefore, the blend mode will not 100% work.
@naruto50462 жыл бұрын
@@LukeBares oh cause premiere is bad at handling variable frame-rates, the screen records on apple devices using the native screen recorder are not recorded using fixed frame rates, i normally run them through the adobe media encoder first or handbrake if you prefer that, then use it in premiere

Great vid. Little Editing tip for Samuel. Once you put the screen recording above the primary timeline, highlight it and hit Command+G, which will make it a secondary timeline. This will make it just like the magnetic timeline so you don't have to cut, drag etc. Just blade and delete and the gaps will fill automatically 👍

🎯⚡💪🏽Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. 05:07 Don't know about iPad, but if your tablet screen records sound as well: 1. turn screen record on with sound...then turn on the camera. 2. While both are on, make a loud noise or clap before you start talking. This will cause a spike in the recording's "audio visual". 3. Use the spike in the audio visuals on both the screen recording and talking head to sync them in your editor. 4. Turn off, delete, or turn down the audio for the tablet/iPad recording in your editor. Do this (2 - 4) for every segment of the video you will be using.

Great video! I have two tips to further improve your workstream: 1. Screen record your iPad with Mic on (long press record button to activate). This allows you in Final Cut Pro to sync the two clips perfectly. 2. When you change the blend mode to Add, simply change the Opacity below in order to bring back the black background. This will save you time by adding the extra screenshot. You are welcome ;) Tom
@muratbatmaz2 жыл бұрын
Can this be done if the editing software has no blend mode as well? Would it work by placing the ipad recording and simply changing the opacity? Wouldn't that also dim out the text, though?

Nice tutorial. One suggestion - instead of a screenshot of a black image, you could also use an adjustment layer (google to download) and add gausian blur and a color board (reduce highlights). This adjustmeant layer takes up less space on the timeline (looks the same as a title effect), and is much more customizable.
