I think the most fascinating thing about the PS2's library isn't the countless magnum opus' or series peaks, it's the hidden gems that you learn about through unlikely means, only to get deeply interested in.

Man, does this take me back. I used to play and replay this game countless times, dodge rolling through gunfire and cutting cowboys in two was always awesome, gory fun. Thank you so much for reviewing one of my childhood favorites!

I considered myself a dude who knew a lot of games, so I was very surprised to find out that I never heard of most the games on this channel, and it made me really curious. Thank you for showing all of those cool obscure titles.

The fact that a lot of these hidden gems of 3D actions games didn't get remaster ports on next gen and obviously PC after all these years, compared to the more known ones is a bleak reality of this world

Still, emulation picks up the preservation slack left by the industry as a whole. Wish libraries would also step in to help with this task, as they already focus on trying to preserve books, and a bit of music and film, for different communitys around the world

3:02 Colonel Campbell was secretly based all along. Kidding aside, I'm glad to see this game get a more involved look as I think it sailed past most people who would really enjoy it. Its not incredibly deep but its got the presentation and feedback that counts. You compare it to other mid-market action brawler games from the PS2 era like Samurai Seven and it leaves most of them in the dust. Thanks for covering it man.
@Aboveup3 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that Seven Samurai game on PS2. I completely forgot that even existed. What a thing that was. I really wish the Way of the Samurai devs tried out going full action at least once more. They took to it so naturally just with this one take on it.

This looks really cool, kind of like a faster, lighter No More Heroes. Tip for a great action brawler game is Castelvania Lords of Shadow, I started thinking of it watching this review fore some reason. The game got a lot of flack for being a button-masher, but play it on the hardest difficulty (you don't have to unlock) and the game becomes a much more fun, tactics-focus, rhythm-action game.

I wish the team that worked on this and the Way of the Samurai games was still around. I feel like with todays new tools for game development that are making it easier than ever, they'd be able to make such a good way of the samurai game, because I think those games have some of the best and most unique game design choices that I wish more people took inspiration from. The whole idea of a replayable open world with insanely divergent stories that the player can choose from and shape however they like, finish in 5-8 hours, and replay again and again, is a brilliant one.
@Aboveup2 жыл бұрын
Look up Kamiwaza. Might not be a new game, it's an old PS2 game they made around the same time as this. But it's getting a new release, with western localization this time. Hopefully it's the start of a comeback of sorts, but even if it isn't, it's still nice to see at least something they made get a comeback like this.

You can also unlock Ralph, steve bloom in blue, and play the campaign not as a model swap but as a character that can't style like Gojiro but that still wields a gun. It's been so long so I might be tripping, but I swear you could Co-op the game when you unlock Ralph too.
@Horatio7873 жыл бұрын
You can co-op. I never did it because I had no neighbors to play with, but it's there.

I've been holding off on watching this video until I got to play the game myself. I finally finished it myself, so I'm finally watching it. In retrospect, this might actually be my favorite PS2-era action game, even edging out the DMC trilogy and the GoW games. DMC3's really the only contender, but it mainly wins out due to polish, while I think Samurai Western had way more satisfying gameplay.

There is actually a really powerfull deflect wich is more like a timed parry. If you dont press the deflect button where the bullets go everywhere, but cut at the moment bullets would hit you, the bullets go back to the sender, the black sheriff tought me about this all too well

Not so much in terms of gameplay, but Samurai Western's vibe kind of reminds me of God Hand. Very zany. Gameplay looks more like Blood Will Tell, which I have. & so I question if I really need another rare PS2 hack & slash...
