He is overstating things and hand picking the stats. His views on the stunted people of Bihar is not correct. Bihari people are quite healthy. They have cows in their home and they drink pure milk. Govt. doesn't have the real data on who owns how many cows or small farms. Govt. only keeps track of bigger dairy farms. So the data Abhijit is presenting is a reduced version. Poor people do exist in India. They mostly live in the tribal belts and in the slum areas. The rural population is usually well fed in general.

Even the graduation topper from MIT, doens't become a coding ninja or the machine-man, on the very first day after his/her graduation. Engineering is something which you learn from other engineers - it can not be learnt at any university. What you can learn at the university is, how to do the Math. While doing the Math at university, you don't really need a live reactor before you. You can always imagine the reactor.

Mr Abhijit Iyer Mitra is very intellectual but he is not presentable and articulative person. He is one of those genius persons who have good ideas but gets ignored by authority or government simply because his method of communication is not constructive. Perhaps Its lack of leadership quality in him which has made him like that. He started his speech with a negative connotation (Strategic autonomy- why India can NOT become a superpower). Then he would demean his audience too (IIT ranking in the world). Probably that’s why he is loved by so many people because of his candid way of speaking. At the end, his brilliant ideas and speech look more like a ridicule than a critique or a SWOT analysis or a concrete plan on how to build on from where we are. He should probably write a white paper on his ideas, because his verbal skills are not that good.
@TheB6573 жыл бұрын
IIT is not known for it's "verbal skills" either. I have many colleagues who work there and studied there. "Verbal Skills" are downside even in EU , talking about Germany, France , Netherlands if you consider "English" as a mode. These nations have used their mother tongue as knowledge propagation medium which is easily understood. The main concept being : "Effectively relaying info. across is more important than "articulating" in a foreign tongue". People in EU while speaking in English by mistake and much often switch to their mother tongue owing to the accent and influx of their tongue into their English. Here internationals understand each other through "effective communication" - not English but the Subject. Language may be simplest but info. must be conveyed. It's time our nation understands that.

Heat Ray Not a wise mindset at all. America is a country build by various groups of people who left their respective sinking ships and created a prosperous society. Ditto Canada, Australia, and New Zealand too to a certain extent. What use is your talent if it's frittered away in a place where it'll never be actualised?
@argh29454 жыл бұрын
Heat Ray In a sense that's precisely my point. There were many people and cultures throughout history who didn't fight or conquer or succeed in defending their interests and they're all gone now or severely weaken. It's horrible but that's just the way things are, have been and always will be. Indians can choose to waste away their potential and clearly exceptional talents in India or go and cultivate them somewhere else. Historical reality doesn't care about high minded ideals about 'sinking with the ship' just because it's 'your' ship. Either be ready to fix that ship using whatever underhand tactics are necessary (like LKY's 'benevolent dictatorship' that took Singapore from third world to first world in 30 years, Deng's selective enforcement of free market principles in China that uprooted the whole society but produced a 21st century power, the government subsidised westward expasion/colonisation/genocide of America that has produced a country with the most advantageous and powerful geography in history, or the unscrupulous Western/British expansion that has produced the modern largely in their image), do that, or fritter away with your ideals while another powerful outsider rules over the Hindus for the next few centuries. Or realise India's not going to become power because it's too big to be this poor and underdeveloped to be stable, and just leave. Apply your talents elsewhere.
@argh29454 жыл бұрын
Heat Ray If more humans throughout history had followed the advice you're following we wouldn't be where we are now in terms of advancements and expansion. They would have stayed where they were waiting for a hopeless situation to get better and working through a measly (non)opportunity, rather than finding and capitalising on better opportunities whereever they presented themselves. Imagine Elon Musk staying in South Africa or going back straight away after his visa ran out rather than taking the (legal) risk and overstaying in the US and capitalising on the particular opportunities compatible with his talents that are only available there and nowhere else right now. Consider who he is now and what he has done and the impact he'll have on world betterment before he dies, and who he might have become if he had stayed or gone back to South Africa. I'm sure a man like that would have done something worthwhile in South Africa but it would have been nothing to the order of what is only possible for someone of his talents to do in America at the moment. Ditto other historical figures. Einstein, Popper, Berlin, even Werner von Bruan (sic) to a certain extent. They all (and many many more - the list would be very long) chose the ship that floats and we're all better off for it in various fields.
@argh29454 жыл бұрын
Heat Ray If you don't understand it then let me spell it out: A sinking ship is a sinking ship and there's nothing noble in lost potential going down with the ship. The nomadic age is over, yes, but expansion and innovation will continue to happen for as long as humans are around, and in order to partake you need go where the opportunities are - wherever they are - and bend them to your will. Also, thanks for throwing that ad hominem in there.

The problem with India is its peasantry. From Punjab to Tamilnadu, you see one or the other Peasant caste ruling the roost, dominating the politics, bureaucracy, police and in some states even the industry. Peasants, with all due respect to them, are culturally among the most regressive and backward groups not only in India but everywhere around the world. You do not expect a peasant to understand the principles of universal morality, equality, tolerance, rationality etc. Peasants are generally bull-headed and when you put these groups in power precisely this happens what has been happening in India for 70 years. The majority of the Indians who of course are non-peasants have to reclaim the Indian politics from the peasants, treat Agricultural Income at par with the Income from Business and Profession and tax it, roll back all the privileges and subsidies that farmers enjoy, kick the peasant castes out of the OBC list, privatize the PSUs that can be privatized and shut down those that can not be. If India can not be reclaimed from the clutches of the peasants, No power on earth could stop Union of India from total disintegration in the next two decades at best.

Modi might be thinking if we aim for developed country, then we will only end up being middle income country by 2047. He knows, people are not supportive and there is protest on every single decision of the government. This guy's speech creates self loathing problem in most of us. but it is very important to know the reasons behind our current state and what could be possible solutions. otherwise we will be only this self loathing, self hating, inferior, unconfident society forever. 5:50 : Putting Stone Age to be around 7,000 BC is a highly conservative, to be honest erroneous, estimate keeping in mind our _ChaturYug_ ( and larger chronologically cyclical ) timelines. Because considering 1) _KaliYug_ begins when Shri Krishna departs from earth, an event which perhaps took place 3000 to 6000 yrs back 2) Shri Rama was born in later _TretaYug_ and the society then as described in Ramayana is a far cry from Stone Age barbarism 3) Between _TretaYug_ and _KaliYug_ , there is an entire _DvaparaYug_ 4) The duration of Yugas are in ratio - _Satya_ : _Treta_ : _Dvapara_ : _Kali_ = 4 : 3 : 2 : 1 ( Ref: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuga_Cycle#The_cycle ) then the kind of barbaric description of society in 7,000 BC of Mr. Abhijit seems more indicative of a post-imperialistic Western knowledge source rather than that of our much more _Sanatan_ traditions spanning multitude of millenia

Every fortnight or so some guy appears with a video showing the past sophisticated technology ,by the way these are far far superior than what US and Russia combine have as on date, for example he begins with a Calender of Sugreeva's and in about a few weeks he brings out another story and moves the date to 24000 years thus he negated the periods of each yuga and claims that Ramayana as 14000 yearswhile vishnu purana it states that treta yuga is the yuga when rama lived and that was more than 2.4 million years ago and so on ,even in your present speech mention that writing did not exist before 7000 years ago but he comes up with a calendar with the names of nations. So India is definitely the only super Power in the world by 2024 .

His Education part is only based on numbers. America is not number one because of just investment, it is mainly due to immigrants. Even though they spend a lot on American kids the results are not great. An indic style education with Yoga, Meditation can go much further than just spending money.

@Chirag He raised some fundamental questions. He was not there to please your mind. He wanted answers from Problem solvers. Question is are you a problem solver?
@rishi_62664 жыл бұрын
@Chirag I see nothing wrong in being close with US. Subramanian Swamy also advocates the same and opines to shed the dependence of Russia, a relation of cold war relic and not based on wisdom. Coming back to topic, at times in problem solving asking the right question is the key and figuring out the solution is the job of a problem solver. It seems you are those 97% who depend on guide book for a ready made answers. I am not saying, I am a problem solver but do acknowledge valid questions but you seem to have lost your mind at not finding a ready made answer. Go attend a a feel good Shiv Khera motivation class.

Bullshit, he says Indian diplomats and policymakers don't know about these facts. C'mon you've to know 100 times more to clear UPSC. It is very easy to criticise tbh but hundred times more difficult to implement solutions in India.

@Live Stream TV Bro, just 20 years ago having a television, refrigerator, motorcycles, washing machine in a house was considered to be a luxury now every home has it. Except for some extremely poor households. So , things are not as dark as you think to be.
