Since narcissists have no self or ego they can only simulate a virtuous person. There's no substance behind the mask. Fascinating lecture Professor.

"Run-of-the-mill, pedestrian, common narcissist" is my new favorite phrase. Thanks, Dr. Vaknin!

I love it. So good. That description would definitely surely agitate them significantly. Reminds me of those times, near the end of the relationship between me and my covert narcissist Ex. I began to regularly tell him, “you’re not that special” and my absolute favorite, “despite what you think and believe, the world does not revolve around you”. Needless to say, he didn’t like that too much. I’m lucky to have gotten out of there in one piece, and grateful to now be a year and two months absolutely “no contact”, despite his full year of ostentatious, failed hoovering efforts.

I always use a dictionary when I watch your videos and I enjoy learning new words in English and much more information about my esoteric field of interest (well one of them) 😅😊

I really appreciate the distinction between celebrity vs. career narcissist. My spouse is the career version, and it's been a little confusing for me to learn about narcissism, since he does possess legit substance. Appreciate these insights, Thank you!

How can you tell the difference between a prosocial narcissist and a covert psychopath?
@samvaknin4 күн бұрын
The prosocial narcissist is overt, in your face, demands admiration, ostentatious.
@jtru774 күн бұрын
@samvaknin So, the covert psychopath would be more likely to shy away from the overt attention, perhaps even as part of the facade of being a good person (since good people are humble)?

Professor Vaknin, since narcissists have the mental age of small children, could one say that narcissistic personality disorder is a kind of 'moral neoteny'?

@YakobusRO their emotional intelligence is low to zero, but intellectual intelligence is high! I messed with one now high up in a banking corporation but can only simulate fellowship with mood swings on a dime 🤔
