San Diego - AP/SAP Mini Austin? Hmmmmm

The real question is why have SAP? You have dd caliber AP so your not gonna overpen anyways. At least with HE you could actually do something against a bb. Your torp power is not bad but not good enough for you to yolo. Atlanta/Flint at tier 7 are incredible. However now your bringing their bad armor to possibly tier 9 games? Have fun getting one tapped by Lepantos and Marco polos. Its such a gimmick heavy ship and only really works well in a dd heavy match. But if I want a dd killed I could just play an Amalfi or a Belfast 43. Plus we already know that the best light cruiser and cruiser in general at tier 8, is DZP. Plus this ship has no way to spot dds so even DZP is better for dd hunting. San Diego is a 4/10 due to how gimmick and matchmaking reliant it is

WarGaming have introduced this ship with SAP and AP, because that's the set-up of this ship on the PC game. The problem is the mechanics of the armor is not the same in blitz and PC versions, so... SAP more useless in bliz than the PC. Other bad points, that's a DD killer but without sonar or radar. Ship with 4 skills (like Belfast '43 who are really great) will be interesting. And one over bad points is the AA : the AA range. Range of AA is really important to make a lot of damage to the plane before they can attack. It's for that the Worcester is so good, great AA range, with the DFA 3 for big dammage. Here, we have again the short AA range (3.6 and 1.8) so with DFA3 it's possible to shoot a lot of planes, but I think we take a lot of damage in the same time (I have the Atlanta) with a CV focus (who say Indomitable? :D).

@@romaint5608 I know this ship is from PC and this is how it is in PC. The problem is the SAP mechanics work differently here than on PC. SAP ok PC can be a broken shell type but here if it’s small caliber SAP then it’s not so insane. Plus the AA on this ship is identical to Atlanta it’s just that your at tier 8 now. I still just can’t see San Diego being a good ship when it struggles so much at its tier.

It makes zero sense. To me the ship lacked the only saving grace of the Austin. Simply having HE means you can manipulate fires and DCP's to your high damage advantage :D San Diego is still good, but you have to be precise and play her like a mino in some ways.

Low caliber SAP is only good on Italian dds because they can get the SAP plus commanders. Otherwise forget about low caliber sap on other nations

I totally agree. Only good against DD's, but AP is also great for that with the low caliber
