World of Warships Blitz - British premium cruiser "Tiger" review

Called by Admiral Sir Morgan-Giles "one of the worst abortions thrust upon the Royal Navy" at some point, this ship sure is an odd one. Somehow, the British thought she didn't need a lot of guns, and Wargaming apparently agreed - she's a bit extreme, in many regards.

This ship only needs either he, smoke 3 being different from smoke 2, or faster reload and it’s a great ship. Right now I see it as average but great in a division

Yeah, division might work. Indomitable and a fast BB, CV spots the DDs, you hunt them, and give AA / team smoke to the BB

After a few games in this thing I have realized the following. Due to the combination of stealth, smoke and complete lack of lethality, most enemies dont bother shooting at you .

It should be noted that before work on the new design with 4 guns began, it was originally thought that cruisers would continue to serve and be built for the RN. Therefore the Tigers were seen more as a aan interim design, before new ships could be built from scratch with more of these new guns. Of course by Tigers commissioning, the missile age began and put an end to the all gun cruisers.

I like Tiger, she's fun and unique. But oh blimey this thing is weak. The key to Tiger is knowing that you are at an inherent disadvantage in every engagement, and playing accordingly. Fun times.

I agree on the unique aspect - that's what usually attracts me to premiums. I think it can be a fun ship for the memes, but I wouldn't use it in general / randoms, it gets frustrating very quickly. Maybe for some lol divisions.

All their VIII ships need an AA buff as their VIII is where all the CV players hang out these days w/ their Indomitables … All radar needs to be buffed too…

Welp. I have just finished the painful grind while dealing with drunk drivers in respawn... All I can say for now is this ship isn't supposed to be a damage dealer, but more like the ship constantly poking and annoying the enemy. Having radar is good, but her dpm isn't enough to erease DDs, not mentioning she is pretty slow for a cruiser. DFAA is ok-ish, but it's nothing when facing tier 9 planes. Somke 3 has no difference compared to smoke 2 whatsoever(bruh) Concealment is good, which allows you to stay undetected or disengage more easily. So it's kind of mediocre, and the skill floor is high, compared to other cruisers like Cleveland.

I can imagine this sort of working in a division, maybe with a Gascoigne, as a support ship. But in random battles, it's really hard to make an impact for your team.

HMS Tiger is a statistics killer: win rate, average damage and kill %. When I feel like engaging in self abuse, this ship is an improvement over electric shock or whips however.

The Tiger is a historic story of compromise. Wish they had at least given her the super firing turrets she was supposed to have. Should at least give us auto secondaries.

I saw Tiger as a useless ship. But I don't know, I never tried it. Smoke gen 3 might be useful in a destroyer line. Also, Terry, did you play Richelieu in epicenter and this Oland guy kept running around trying to be useful? That was me in the Oland.

You have to aim high due to the arc of the rounds thats why you did 0 pens on one Salvo. They came in at a steep angle and harmlessly glanced off the sides (second video) I would have targeted the bow or stern. Super structure is a pain. Sure you can disable secondaries but... at 10km its not that big of a deal lol.

If its a cv game i try to get in the flight path of the planes or stay close to whoever the CV is trageting and I've obtained many "clear skies" this way. I go full AA on all equipment slots. Using your guns is i find is actually of secondary importance, but when you do always aim high for the superstructure. Its so satisfying to see so many planes coming and then so few or none get back to the carrier 😁😁. That said in a game without cv it's always going to be a bit of a struggle.

It’s criminal that WG haven’t put HE on this ship, it would make it much more capable in games, especially in randoms. Their (WG) continual insistence on handicapping British cruisers with AP is just nuts!

The AA on paper is quite misleading. I can destroy quite a few aircraft per wave thats nearby and if they fly over its over. Its on par with Friesland AA for the tier. Its more devastating than it looks. That AA range helps alot.

There was a stream that depicted even without a n y aa upgrades she was able to withstand 3 focus strikes from a black shokaku and wiped out 22 planes.

The AA is decent, Cleveland still holds the crown though. Given the weaknesses in damage output, I was hoping for best in class, though, so it's a high bar.

@@FunandGameswithTerry they need to buff the guns. With no torps she's hard pressed to damage ships. The daka alone isn't enough and if a ship maneuvers keeping shells on target is tough.

@@FunandGameswithTerry still getting used to the arcs but I can see the advantage of them. Just have to keep learning the new lead. Gotta lead alot more than usual. Sure you can hit a dd at 10km.... 1 out of like 50 shots haha. Still fun seeing so many splashes after you stop firing I think at that range there's still 2 or 3 salvos in the air

Oh I ended up fighting a Tiger in a Russian VII Battleship. It didn't end well for the tiger and barely 3000 damage for the two salvos I shot before she sunk. Pathetic in dealing damage but idk what she's actually good at the tiger

In pc this ship is considered one of the wrost but I think on blitz specially on division she can be awesome... however in solo play mmmm I'm trying to improve here... I choose accuracy, rudder and speed... I tried reload speed , propultion and rudder... both work well but the damage u can bring in battle mmmm my higher score wase 48k damage.... not to much... is a support ship by the way... good review Terry thx for the info

The AA is good, but not best in class, I'd still prefer a Cleveland. Just historically, given that the 150s were designated dp guns, and the whole ship meant to be an AA cruiser, I'd have expected more oomph.

It is always better to improve underwhelming ships bit by bit and that in general will generate more positive emotions as opposed to just releasing over powered ships then after a lot of people bought those ships they weaken those ships, that is certainly not going to be perceived well by those who have already grinded or bought those ships, no? 😉

I am deciding to try to play for its battle honours but I am not sure how anyone will complete the final battle honour of 50k in a single battle. It seems virtually impossible unless someone has a trick for it.

I really like fast-firing guns and 360 turrets, but the damage simply isn't there. My advice: get yourself a Minotaur :) Terry Daring review pls :) Also, do you think we will get these premium tier X "guns only" DDs like Druid and Ragnar anytime soon?

I like tiger and that is the reason for me keep grinding the mino because the Tiger has Mino guns and I love the Tiger. I managed 96k dmg in Tiger twice. I'm currently on Neptune and I love her

Neptune is one of the best T9 cruisers imo. Mino is great fun at T10 as well. Tiger does not have Mino's guns, I know those quite well. Tiger's 150s have pretty low penetration, even with APCS. Mino can citadel USN CAs with the same setup.

This ship's firepower is so bad. It's like an axillary ship. It seems like your main role is providing aa defense ,smoke screen ,radar for your teammate, and protecting them from dd .Fighting is just your secondary role.

This ship looks average as hell. To be she can produce the same amount of shell s as Edinburgh (7.5/3=2.5, 4x3=12), but the shells do less damage and she has no torps. I would hope they give her better shell damage then Edinburgh, and maybe even HE as buffs. I've nearly got her for free so I don't mind, and she was the last class of UK cruisers, so a nice port queen.

I was hoping for an improved Belfast - unfortunately not. If the AP pen would have been a bit better, it might have been a different story as well, but as it stands, she's pretty much helpless against BBs

@@FunandGameswithTerry just as you write this I had my first game in her and did 91k! The trick is the only battleship shooting at me was the bot, allowing me to duel a Hipper and Cleveland. She is really good against every class except many crusiers or battleships, but that is in a normal game half the enemy team. I think maybe a buff to 2 seconds on the guns, AP damage and pen better then Edinburgh and maybe even the addition of HE and the ship would be powerful. But sadly, she is not to be.

If you get the chance. She can be valuable, but it's quite situational. No DDs in the game? DD spawns at the other end of the map? DD is backed up by a CA or BB? I can imagine this ship to work in some meme divisions, but in random battles, she can get frustrating.

The Cleveland is much better than the Tiger. I sank three of them each in separate battles in my Cleveland using ap and radar from mid to close range. The Tiger's ap wasn't doing much damage and I was doing a lot of damage to them as my Cleveland's ap hurt them a lot.
