Homelessness is a national problem by choice, and the City of San Diego keeps making the same choice year after year. This video, taken on Dec. 27, 2022, 9:22 a.m., shows only part of an encampment that runs along Park Blvd., National Ave., and many other streets in the downtown and surrounding areas. On one side of the street, it’s literally impossible to use the sidewalks because of the dense population of unhoused people.
If any San Diego official insists they’re solving this problem, ask them to explain this video. Better yet, ask them to take a walking tour with you as they try to lie through their teeth. In short, this is just another example of a government prioritizing profits over the needs of people, and the most vulnerable among us suffers because of it.
This is why it’s crucial to vote for progressive candidates over Republicans and conservative Democrats, both of whom cater to their donors at everyone else’s expense, both nationally and locally. The problem in Southern California is particularly bad, but obviously every city in the United States has some level of homelessness. And again, where funding goes is a choice, and that choice inevitably benefits corporate donors.
