@andrewfutterman3346

@@evanstonbalce9588 Originally all the cars made that buzzing sound; it's the chopper controls on the Westinghouse DC drive motors, which all the of Legacy Fleet cars were equipped with when they were first built. But beginning in 1998 and continuing until 2002, the A and B cars were refurbished, and among other things all of the Westinghouse DC drive motors on those cars were replaced with ADtranz 1507C AC motors. The DC motors are still being used on the C cars, although the C cars seem to be the first cars to be decommissioned and scrapped despite being the newest cars in the Legacy Fleet.

Yes the acceleration is intense my first ride on BART was from Dublin to Powell Street. I clocked my train at 92 mph but in was very noisy. Unlike in NYC Subway BART Shuts Down at 12:00 am and is more expensive to ride as it's a Regional Line. We New Yorker are spoiled with the Flat $2.50 rate 24 hour operation.

Actually, they were modernized by ADtranz/Bombardier, and they replaced the propulsion system during modernization. ADtranz was acquired by Bombardier, who likely used a similar propulsion system for the R142A and R143 trains. But the trains were built by different companies (btw, there aren't very many rolling stock propulsion system manufacturers).

Q train Productions R160 BART currently operates a fleet of over 200 cars consisting of the A stock cab cars, which are the cabs with slanted ends. They came in 2 batches. The A1 batch numbered in the 1100’s were built in 1969/1970. The second batch came in 1971/1972 and are known as the A2 cars which are numbered in the 1200’s. The B sets which are the in between cars on every stock except the fleet of the future are called B cars and were built with the A sets from 1970 to 1972. The C series consists of 230 cars of the system. They too came in 2 batches but the main difference is that they were built by 2 different manufacturers. The C1 cars numbered from 300 to 1099 were manufactured by Alsthom(now known as Alstom) and with the help of Rohr in 1987-1989. A total of 150 cars were made. The second batch were the C2 cars which are numbered in the 2500’s and were manufactured by Morrison Knudsen from 1995-1996. The C1 and C2 are almost identical. When the C2 cars were introduced, they were fitted with bike seats. Those were later removed. And the C2 cars have blue flooring while the C1’s have standard grey flooring. The Fleet of the Future cars are designated as D and E cars. D being the cab sets and E being the rest of the cars. These cars are planned to replace all existing stock on BART.

It is a very large system, but the experience can't be that different for different lines. I suppose it depends what you compare it to. BART is pretty darn fast, I'm not sure I'd call something that goes 70mph and rides like BART does "bumpy" though. It's bumpier than something really slow, like a conventional subway.
