It's nice to see some BART action from transit fans out in Norcal. I find it to be kinda rare to see some decent footage of the system. Yours is probably some of the best I've seen to date. Fun fact: The day this video was uploaded/published was the day I fanned this station lol. It was my first stop before exploring Downtown San Francisco. Great job with the video, I'm also very impressed with the quality!

I’ve been riding BART for 23+ years and it’s changed so much and sadly not for the better with all the crazy stuff going on lately. But I’m sure it will pull through eventually and get better. I hope! New cars are the start!
@TohaBgood22 жыл бұрын
The older generation of riders was extremely militant about keeping the BART board on its toes. They paid a ton of money for BART to be built and people were extremely ticked off when BART didn't measure up to its downright luxurious promises! I am sad to say that we lost our way! The riders are just more willing to give the BART board a pass on all sorts of crap. Safety has become atrocious. Apparently we now accept that the cops just never patrol the trains or stations. They haven't even hired enough cops per their own plans and now they reduced the planned staffing levels for cops even more. The cleaning staff is clearly slacking and the Board just does absolutely nothing. BART used to be spotless for decades, but about 10 years ago the problems started. We need to start tearing the BART board "a new one" at every meeting until they fix the system! If were weren't all such slackers about raising hell then BART would have never let the system degrade so much!

I wonder how long the 10 car trains are in relation to the longest possible NYC subway cars or the L in Chicago
@BayAreaTransitNews4 жыл бұрын
Six-car trains in Chicago (the max number of cars) are approximately 290 feet; 10-car NYC trains are ~600 feet; BART has the longest rapid transit trains in North America, at around 710 feet for 10-car trains.

@@BayAreaTransitNews Don't they use 8-car trains in Chicago?
@bkark09354 жыл бұрын
Yes, but not on all lines, only on those Colored Lines that are considered the busiest to warrant eight versus six train consists. The Subways have had eight car trains for a while, thus the Blue and Red Lines. The Brown Line until recently, only had elevated stations long enough to accommodate six car trains. A decade ago, all stations were lengthened. The Elevated Loop Dowtown has been able to take 8 car trains since the 1990s; especially after the opening of Orange Line Extention to Midway Airport and the rehabilitation of the Green Line.

@@joegage5893 It's a Siemens S200 LRV4 that Muni operates one level above the BART level of the station. The floor above this BART level houses the Muni Metro subway. This whole section of four BART stations at Embarcadero, Mongomery, Powell, and Civic Center is a giant transfer section between BART and the Muni Metro subway. Now the Powell station actually has two Muni Metro subway transfers. One to the Market street Muni subway lines and another to the brand new Central Subway line. Definitely worth checking out if you're ever in town!

6:03 It's sad how new these cars are and they already have graffiti. (Look inside the door, just below the door closing indicator.) :(
@realquadmoo2 жыл бұрын
They totally should have platform screen doors at all stations. The trains have very bright lights at the front which could throw someone off and make them trip, the trains approach at a high speed causing wind as it passes by and makes the risk of someone being pushed into one possibly much worse. They already have door markers and some stops to my knowledge already have platform screen doors. If they do add platform screen doors it will pretty much just be a cherry on top to all of the other traits of this amazing network
@TohaBgood22 жыл бұрын
BART was actually planning on installing platform screen doors about a decade ago. But the old cars only had two doors per car and the planning process for procuring the new fleet identified the upgrade to three doors per car as a key improvement. That's part of the reason why BART stopped the process to install platform screen doors. Once they fully scrap all the old cars, they're probably going to restart the process with the platform-screen doors. But this will take quite a few more years. The BART fleet is pretty massive and it takes Bombardier a long time to manufacture that many cars. One thing of note is that platform screen doors are not popular in the US. I personally find them claustrophobia inducing. A ton of people actually think the same. Most people seem to prefer platform gates and barricades a la Shinkansen stations. But with BART, platform screen doors actually may be a pretty universally liked feature. A ton of BART stations are in the middle of highways and the platform screen doors would in effect serve as noise screens. I for one am willing to tolerate them purely for the noise reduction that they will bring at highway median stations!
