I voted NO and stand behind that vote. They have GGP right there if they want a park...Leave the road open plus it is very expensive to build the park and thah money could go to better use like funding or schools.

The southern extension which bridges the UGH and Skyline is closing indefinitely due to erosion in 2025. Cars will then have to re-route up Sloat around the ZOO and go down along Lake Merced. This will no longer be the cut-through to Daly City and Pacifica that it once was.
@AliasHSW9 сағат бұрын
@ - I know; but still beneficial for all to keep UGH open.
@H.S.H.M.4 сағат бұрын
@@janetta98 That part is ok because it only adds 1 minute to the commute if GH is still open. However, shutting down southern extension PLUS great highway closure will mean an extra 30 minutes in commute during rush hour from Daly City/Pacifica to Richmond district & vice versa. All because people want a foggy & cold beach "park" to enjoy, as if Golden Gate Park doesn't already exist a block away. I already walk & jog on the existing pedestrian path on Great Highway after work, there really is no need to shut it down & inconvenience the 20,000+ commuters that use it daily.

The great highway is NOT a park. It’s a beach with a huge roadway that gets sand on it constantly. People who voted for it want it to become a park. We can’t afford to make it a “park” for who knows how long. So it will be a carless roadway covered in sand that is usually cold and windy. The people who voted for this don’t want to believe that this is a city and not rural America. These are the same people who will end up leaving because they don’t feel they have enough space and the rest of us stuck with this and the painted red, green streets and miles of bicycle lanes.

I live on 48th Ave, the closest street next to Great Highway & our entire block voted No on K. When its closed on Friday-Sunday, the traffic more than doubles on our street. It doesn't matter how many new speed bumps the city place here, most drivers are flooring it through every stop sign since they are frustrated that the GH is closed. This highway should have never been closed to begin with, & the ballot should not have been a city wide vote since other neighborhoods could give a rats @ss about a highway they don't need to use daily

Understand the closure can lead to traffic and parking problems. But it needs not be. Maybe the city will only allow public transit into the neighborhood. Residents in the neighborhood will be issued decals so cars entering without decal will be automatically ticketed with heavy fines like one or two grand. The city can sweeten the deal by giving half of the fine back to the neighborhood either as additional services or a monthly/quarterly check per household. The city can even make MTA adds a surcharge to routes to the close hughway so people using the closed highway actually pays the residents for the inconvenience. I think the closure can be a win for everyone. We just need to be a but creative

Nothing like closing EMB freeway, Embarcadero still open to traffic. “Park” barely gets use on weekends as is, will be even less during the week. @HellaSayHella10 сағат бұрын
@@andrewpagan That's true, though even many in the areas that would be affected also voted yes (obviously not the majority, and sorry for being pedantic haha), and I do empathize by any person who is negatively affected by it, but that part of San Francisco isn't, nor hasn't really ever been, at risk of traffic congestion, according to reports and maps. That and the existing policy/schedule of closure there hasn't created any major of issues as of yet. They also considered its current state of repair, and erosion rates, and how much it will cost to make future repairs and/updates necessary to maintain the highway vs the benefits of its closure. With all that said, I super support those who voted against the prop using whatever legal means possible to challenge the measure, up to and including funding additional reports and studies on the negatives and positives of implementing prop K. Apologies if my comment was flippant. I'm a San Franciscan as well, and I want whatever turns out best for the entire city :). Hope you are well.
