A mutation to cause extra limbs in itself is pretty rare, now extra functional limbs, that's almost unheard of. Edit: 10:48 I... Nevermind, multi-limbed dragons are a thing... Well at least mine was a reference to the "naturally" evolved dragons oof...

Finally, we get to see the architectures of Kaimere. I think that this does explain a lot, Hukolgor and Qotar especially, and the Titans... Although, how can a Zentaur take these beasts down is something I would definitely love to watch. And finally we do arrive at the Elasmosaurs of Kaimere. This is the second marine reptile of Kaimere we do get to know.

They do, but often sound canons and other auditory deterrents are superior. Unless you’re very confident of a kill, injuring a 60 ton armored animal might just piss it off. They tend to find it best to scare them off.

Heck Yes! We love a good castle! Honestly my brief stint in playing ARK: Survival Evolved is what taught me the importance of walls in an area with any kind of titanosaur. Because brontos can and will mess up your entire day (and your crop plots) just by taking a stroll. I'm also incredibly glad that I didn't decide to put any kind of large burrowing creature anywhere on Uthir because hot dang, Hukolgor... arrreee terrifying! Respect the Sloths.

Walled settlements can often have a lot of thematic importance in writing As well as being important to the overall lore. Attack on Titan and Avatar The last Airbender are examples of this. Well, in Nickelodeon Avatar universe, they just took the real life medieval/feodal/Renaissance buildings from past Asia, so it's more cultural depictions and tribute than they own things inspired by it. As for Attack on Titans, building are quite sober in everything, being background and scenery to be destroyed. Only the Great Walls that protect humans and protagonists are apart and of a strong importance in the show. Plus, they are all pretty basic settlement and mote took from real life as cheap assets to fitt the world.

Saw this video when you first posted it. Great lore as ever. Have to ask since I read about it recently; do Kaimere's have an analogue to Roman concrete or direct knowledge of the material from the Assembly? Did the First Children? I ask because I read recently what is believed to be an explanation to it's longevity, a non-homogeneous mixture of limestone chunks in the material which would dissolve and recrystallize when small cracks formed while in the presence of water. I can only imagine what benefit this would have in a humid climate like the known world or how it might have augmented the building capabilities of the First Children in the construction of their cities, the Celestial Wall or the settlements in Arvel beyond Qajar, or how the Empire might use it in maintaining their own walls around their borders. I love your work and can't wait to see what subjects you cover next. Really looking forward to the rest of the series on Pterosaurs.

So thinking through the implications of needing to wall in basically all settlements, does this set a fairly high 'floor' size for settlements in Kaimere? Building, and maintaining, these sorts of fortifications (big enough to deter a sauropod) is labor intensive, so it seems to me that any successful settlement would have to be at least large enough in population to make these feasible, otherwise they get trampled by the next titan that wanders through or what have you.

Absolutely. There’s a big incentive to live in fairly large tight-knit communities without much reliance on the outside world, hence why Pakardia and the gardens of Arvel and Ni’Khar are so decentralized

Cool! I did wonder for some time what the buildings on Kaimere would have to look like if they were able to repel threats as enormous as dinosaurs. Big walls and gaps seem to have done the trick but it definitely doesn’t guarantee safety. Also, I noticed that the giant thescelosaur has a slightly updated design. Will you be remaking the video where you covered those rising evolutionary stars?

Thanks, and yup! The parksosaurs aren’t even called parksosaurs anymore (reclassified as Thescelosaurs irl) and most of them are due for an update between my own improvements and some new anatomical features in their anatomy we’ve learned about since I designed them.

Of course, all of these buildings are just (relatively) safe place here and here in the wild territories of kaimere and the Known World, to mostly help travelers when they must journey for a reason or another. Kaimeran have manage to bult large cities, most of them nears or at the borders of the coast. All of them must be very, very large, almost infinites looking from one signle point that we can't see the opposite limits. It's in these 100% safes place from wild dangerous animals that most Kaimerans population lived, and in which all of the proper researchs and analyses of the world of Kaimere are made. And it's in these cities that the most huge, big, large, crazy and majestic looking buildings made by Kaimerans are present ! Since these places only were just hinted to this day, from facebook and social account, I hope that we will someday have an entire episode on these cities who are litterally the base and major heart of kaimeran lives and culture !

Well there was still some impact from the Dynastic Extinction especially in the oceans since many animals of the islands are marine animals and the disruption of the marine ecosystem was pretty devastating. Gorgons and dinocephalians died out in conventional ways: becoming too successful and specialized left them vulnerable to context changes. A generalist is never going to run the show, and specialists are the first to die. Dominant animals are always the most vulnerable

As cool as the 2005 Skull Island is, I don't think that there's going to be a close analog in Kaimere simply because an island can't realistically support such massive megafauna. I personaly think that Pakardia can be compared to a grounded version of the Skull Island as it has giant apes, some relics (from the time it was part of Kaishel) and many dinosaurs. But even though Pakardia is not a small island the biggest terrestrial carnivore is the oritaku which fully grown is comparable to the adolescent versions of its mainland cousins the zentaur and uktan. Other then that there are some isolated places in Kaimere that have been teased already such as the Permian island, Permian continent and the Jurassic island. Also since we're talking about isolated places and nightmarish fauna, Kaishel is pretty isolated and you know what's going on there...

Random Questions unrelatted to the current video : 1 - The Ongulate Terrestrial Pterosaurs on the Permian Islands are (again) Tapejarid or Azhdarchid ? Because if Tapejarid are good for climbing, the reason of their inital success in Modern Kaimere, it's no secret that Azhdarchid are by far the most terrestrial Pterosaurs, and made them better for complete terrestrial flightless forms such the ones of the Permian Island. No ? 2 - The diversity of Azhdarchid in Modern Kaimere is equal or lesser than the Tapejarid ?

1. Not very. Silent Ones are efficient climbers. 2. Lol after 5 I think it’s an easy megaraptoran win. 3. I’d say sloths are worse because they’re burrowers. Qotaur have burrowing ancestors but usually just shove down walls. Hukolgur are a lot more thorough in their demolition. 4. More seals and sloths than anything else. Predators are less of an issue than dozens of smelly dangerous megafauna that are tired and irritable. 5. Common titans on the left, kurajaku on the right.

My biggest question is, how do the ring towns deal with waste? If you've got this big ringed town where everyone is living inside a large, multistory settlement, where do they dispose of their waste? Cause you can't throw it into the communal inner region, and as we see in roman tenant buildings, those higher up tended to just... throw it out the window even when ordinances said otherwise, creating health hazards. Cool video though, digging it thus far.

They do have a plumbing system which pretty simply pumps clean water in one side and pushes waste out the other towards the nearest river system. Food refuse is usually composted in a nearby walled area that can then be brought back to keep the garden fertile. Larger waste that can’t be flushed or composted is brought out of town to a larger waste area

If your agriculture is put inside the walls, it seems like expansion would be quite difficult, as you'd have to move the walls, and in this case the habitation areas, in order to grow the space? Also, how much of a problem are pterosaurs to agriculture in this context? It seems like giraffe sized flying omnivores would be quite a pain if you are trying to grow things, like the crow problem on steroids.

Homo erectus has many descended species, including the First Children, Homo altus, peoples of the Eastern continent, Permian Islanders, Tlaton, and a few others. Many different species.

Some random questions I wanted to ask at the Dogs of Kaimere video but I was unable to do : 1 - Kaimeran have dogs, which obviousely lives in all these settlements, but are their feral dogs too ? 2 - if yes, these ferals dogs must be a great problem, dangers and nuissance, how kaimeran do against them ? 3 - how high is the level of dangerosity from these pack of feral dogs (analogous to our own feral pack in our cities around the globes) ? 4 - in our real life in asia, leopards in urban areas are known to attack dogs directly in front of their own houses, do the kaimeran used special collars around the neck of their dogs to prevent most of the attack (like asian people do most often to secure their pets) ?

There are plenty of feral dogs or wolfdog hybrids. These constitute one of the most dangerous animals to peoples as they congregate near settlements. Kaimerans often hunt these dogs and some peoples like the Arvelith Qajarith and Shu see them as a source of food.

I have remark that most of cultural vibes on Kaimere (at least in the Known World) are mainly asiatic references. Sure, reference to others cultures are also present too, like the Western and cowboys in the Shu people, or Eskimos people in Khalim people and Kaishel inhabitant Tlaton. But the Asian overall culture references seem more proeminent than any others real life culture. So, it's me or it's a on purpose thing ? Also, btw, it's cool that you follow this trope, that, in a fantasy world, there almost every real-life cultures from medieval/feodal and antiquity times exist more or less in the fantasy world in question. Like in Genndy Tartakovsky's primal or Genshin Impact for example. Because that add a lot of diversity, and many inspirations sources that could give many interesting interpretations !

Nice, can't be a fantasy without castles and such structures would definitely be a logical choice for living with such prehistoric animals. Also, how wide and deep would a ditch need to be to keep the titanosaur at Bay by feet or meters? And a giant ground sloth drinking a whole bunch of beer and pretty much sleeping for days, drunk? That is a funny image!!!

The ideal trench is 2-3 meters deep and 3-5 meters wide. Much wider or deeper becomes more work than is necessary to maintain and can also just become low elevation that is actually easy enough to climb down.

I mean, I definitely know you do extensive research to make your world, cultures, and creatures as believable at best. Was there a paper talking about what kind of obstacles sauropods couldn't go to? I am curious because one of my own little projects is if someone did brought back dinosaurs and other extinct species, what kind of precautions and designs and such would needed to keep such species in captivity properly :)

Qotaur indeed got a redesign! Never was happy with the pattern of the first one. They are now thescelosaurs because irl that change in classification happened last year.

What could be very interesting for you is that there is a strategy for warding off large animals here on earth. Some villages in Africa surround their gardens with beehives. This wards off elephants who are generally afraid of bees. While I see that it might not help against thick skinned giant sloths and the like, it could potentially be integrated in some contexts. As long as the honey doesn't serve as an extra draw. Maybe some kind of wasp that doesn't produce as much honey or something like this.

I personally would absolutely love a movie/tv show set in Kaimere, but two important things: 1) They should let Keenan be involved with the script writing so they don't mess up a story already existing in the books or make something on their own that doesn't fit at all. 2) Keenan should also be in charge of the animal designs and everything should go through him, because knowing Hollywood we can otherwise easily end up with indrakai looking like the Dominion Pyroraptor and the uktan roaring like the JP T.rex. In terms of games there are definitely a lot of opinions.

I would love that but there would need to be some very careful oversight. I fully acknowledge that there are people in the field who are stronger than me in certain areas, but I’d want the final word on a lot of things. Would be too worried about designs and cultures getting adapted in ways that wouldn’t sit right with me. But the prospect would be fantastic!

If/when Kaimerean civilization goes through an industrial revolution what effects will it have on the planet and biosphere? Would they be the same as on Earth? Would colonialism arise with one group of people spreading over the planet and subjugating other cultures/species of human? And lastly would this result in the extinction of most large mammals and dinosaurs and manmade extinction event or would the much more dangerous nature of the fauna prevent this stage of society entirely?

That's an interesting question to which I don't know the answer but I'll throw in a few things I think should be considered in this discussion: 1) When we experienced industrial evolution there wasn't a more advanced civilization around to tell us "Hey, maybe avoid making these mistakes when you're going through this stage". Kaimerans however have contact with Earth through The Assembly, so may be that could atleast give them a reason to approach some stuff more cautiously. 2) Kaimerans have prolonged lifespan due to the hereditary magic that they carry so they can't grow in population from 1 billion to 8 billion in 200 years. 3) Kaimere is a bigger planet then Earth so it probably has resources for a bigger human population. 4) Kaimerans don't have to necessarily progress in the same way as we did. Maybe a nation will develop technology based on magic like the first children's civilization and take over the other cultures.

Thus castle in Kaimere are all good during kaimerans wars, conflicts and sieges, which are all quite rares events since wars equal numerous losts, and kaimeran have low reproduction, and kaimeran aren't stupid at all, in reality, they are primeraly made to protect them against the megafauna. Again, the fact kaimeran's biology is such low in reproduction and so long in lifespan that forced them to do everything, efforts and actions to avoid any kind of death, and protect them for themselves in every ways, since kaimeran don't do commonly, even to a rare point, most of our own problems, negligences and stupids actions that cost us so many lives every years ! It's their special biology that irocincally make them so vulnerable o everything that protect efficiently so strongly against themselves, theri own species and people !
