A vacuum tube is an electronic power component which was the precursor to the transistor. It was all metal and glass, with some of the interior metal parts "doped" with chemicals so they would conduct electricity at different rates when voltage was applied across the bottom pins, allowing things like Tv's, radios and early computers to be developed. Silicon- based tranistors allowed those same items to be made much smaller.

I always imagined that Nora was a JAG lawyer. So, she had the basic military training (explaining her skill set with weapons, survival, and such), but she went into law. And then her and Nat (who I imagine was a combat officer) still have differences in their personal stories and yet could both survive after waking up and do everything we see them do.

Enjoying the video 🙂 Thoughts on Shaun. Generally speaking I will do every other quest possible in Fallout 4, before getting Nick and starting the march to the Institute. Then I will run out every quest added between Nick and getting to the Institute I can, because I know once I hit the Institute I am mentally ready to be done with the game, so I do a lot of ignoring Shaun. Not because I dislike him, but because, in-spite of Bethesda's "best efforts" they really didn't make that story feel urgent; something that from what I remembered surprised them when people didn't immediately start hunting for Shaun. I have thoughts on why this didn't work. There has long been a meme that goes something like, Fallout 3 - The search for your father, Fallout 4 - The search for your son, and I can see why Bethesda would think, the search for the father went well enough, maybe searching for your child would make the main story feel more urgent, and because players will miss side missions because they were so dedicated to search for Shaun, they will play it again; and it might have been possible to make it work, but it went wrong in a few ways. First, while not everyone may know there biological parents, by the nature of being born, someone birthed them, and hopefully someone fulfilled the parent roll in there life, so odds are good, people are going to relate to having a connection to an adult in a parental roll. Not going to be 100%, but hopefully better than 50/50, haven't done any research on it. Whereas, a child, not everyone has a child, not everyone wants to have a child, and it could be argued that a not insignificant amount of the player base might not even be to the age of thinking about having a child; so relating to a parent roll looking for an infant, reduced odds of connecting right off the bat. I would be curious to find out if people who played the game before and after having a child had a different emotional response to Shaun after having a child. While I do not have a child, I did tear up a little the first time through at the partner being killed, and I think being married, may have influenced that slightly, could also just be my personality. Second, they did not give us that much time with Shaun and Nate/Nora at the beginning of the game. I haven't timed it, but between my own Fallout 3/4 time and the Let's Plays I have watched, I am pretty sure the Intro part of Fallout 3 is longer, and while not all of it is directly interacting with your character's father, all of the chaos that happens is directly because of him and what he has done while you were asleep. So you could either be worried about him, mad at him, or indifferent, I think in part depending on what kind of baggage you as the player are bringing in to the game. Or, you could be like me and a 100% completionist with every playthough and ignore your father as well, because you know some of those quests won't be there once you find him. I think no matter how well written or implemented, there was always going to be a segment of the player based that ignored Shaun for the majority of the game until they ran out of stuff to do just because that is how some people play games and there isn't a time limit to the story, so there is no need to focus on Shaun until you are ready to be done with the game. I am not sure what would have made Shaun connect better for players in general, but given the nature of the game and the way the characters are usually a projection of the player who created them, this was always going to be a hard sell.
@sabmiles078 ай бұрын
This game wasn’t out before I had my daughter but I can absolutely see what you’re saying. As a parent/gamer I’ve RP’d this game a few different ways. First: I don’t like the Shaun story. It feels forced, rushed, and quite honestly the character doesn’t have the feel of a panicked parent searching for their child. So I’ve played through a few times pretty much ignoring the Shaun aspect. But a few times I’ve played as I think I, myself, would react and my character is NOT a nice person in these playthroughs. My husband was murdered. My son kidnapped. I just found out it’s been 200 years. I’m bitter. Angry. Resentful and panicked. And the longer the story goes she gets even more forceful and angry. But since the only way to really portray that type of character is to go “Raider” I don’t really play that way much. I’d just prefer to skip the main story altogether if I could.
@dreaminginjapan6 ай бұрын
I agree with all you said!! FO3 we “grew up” with our father. There were cutscenes like birthdays and little memories. We were even a baby at once. It was cute. But FO4 was so quick. Bam you have a husband. Bam you got a kid crying. 😂😂😂 then suddenly they died. I felt no connection at all. Now that I’m married and have a son I can feel more sympathy for Nora/Nate but I still don’t feel that urgency.

You made me re-download Fallout 4 and get back into building settlements! I've now been playing for two weeks or so and I'm having a blast. Manufacturing can be as simple as you want or as complex as you want it to be. I built a 4 floor automated factory at Abernathy farms that builds everything you can imagine. The only bad part is you can't daisy chain logic gates as they start to get confused the longer you make the chain unless it got fixed.

First off, love your videos and the way you carry yourself, very calming and fun to watch what you create especially keeping it vanilla with no mods 😊 keeps things challenging and interesting in that you kind of have to adhere to some weird Bethesda building codes. Hi Reagan!! What keyboard buttons do you use in order to select something from the build catalogue while being inside a house, without selecting any of the build items that you just placed down? I put all the walls/floors etc, I'm inside the house that I just built and I want to start decorating but instead of selecting the stuff that I'm scrolling from the build catalogue, it would select the floor/wall that it's right in front of me. So I always have to do mini runs in and out to decorate in order to avoid having anything in front of me that could be incorrectly selected 🙄😢😅

On the note of wishing we weren't forced into the decision of having a kid -- i agree, I wish instead our player character could have _helped_ the sole survivor in their mission to find shaun. that we as the PC aren't actually the main character, just a wastelander that helps the SS on their way.I feel this would have made sense not only because they gave Nate and Nora both backstories (more in depth than RPGs usually do), but if you wanna play factions, it fits within the narrative. Like, if your son was just stolen from you and you woke up after 210 years, i doubt the first thing on your mind is stuff like creating settlements (much less in your stolen child's preserved bedroom from centuries ago??), freeing robots or preserving old technology. But, as a wastelander, that _would_ be on your mind, those could be primary concerns. Maybe instead, the game would have opened with you hiding out in Sanctuary Hills in the House of Tomorrow for whatever reason, but you just happen to be there when this person in a vault suit comes, talking about how they've lost their son. Dialogue options open for _you_ to suggest places like Concord, Diamond City, Goodneighbor, ect -- _you_ choose where to start the mission and send the sole survivor. They ask for your help, so you accompany them. This could work as both a tutorial (in the way you're playing bodyguard for a walk across the map) _and_ a way to start into the factions. You'd still possibly encounter the BoS walking to Diamond City, within the walls of the city, when the SS is being told about the Institute, a first time player is also hearing about it. If you decide to send the SS to Concord, well, then you get to pick up the Minutemen, and perhaps after fighting the Deathclaw, (maybe if it's Nate and you aren't prone to using power armour - like me, you can ask him to take it) and the SS feels confident enough to walk to Diamond City on their own? I dunno, only give it a bit of thought, but I think it could have been really neat. My favourite game is Oblivion, and I love being The Guy:tm: that helps out Martin Septim, instead of playing as The Chosen One himself. I also feel like this adds to the replayability. Instead of just running the usual intro when you know what you're doing, you can get a handful of different intros depending on which direction you guide the SS in.
