cook stations, armor and weapon benches as well as chem stations also bring happiness to settlements. The garden plots really aren't need. Any food can be planted in that area, it's just a matter of spacing.

You aren't using a quite simple and yet well known construction tip, the Pillar Glitch. This allows a player to manipulate the construction by glitching a concrete pillar to change the height of a building and sink into the ground, and place walls, fences, flooring and roofs in places the game wouldn't normally allow you to place.
@mrJMD9 ай бұрын
I hear you and I know the glitch too but there's a feeling that we so fundamentally shouldn't NEED to do it, that I almost never glitch anything. It sounds insane, but by glitching a ton of stuff it feels like I'm condoning Bethesda's lazy game design, lol.

Enjoying the videos, always like to see how others layout their settlements and get new ideas for mine. With Nordhagen I generally make a boardwalk over the water with housing built off of it, for ocean front views, using the smaller prefabbed wooden shack housing, two beds per and a little seating area in the window. Then, if it makes it to 20 population I will make an apartment complex behind the original shack that comes with the settlement. I am looking forward to whenever you get to Hangman's Alley, that is the one settlement, that to fully use the space it includes needs a mod, because otherwise they can't walk beyond the gate on the water side entrance normally from what I understand. And it also has been said that the settlers won't go upstairs if you build up to keep the alley open for shops on the pavement. I don't generally worry about using the mods to fix that, but it is also the settlement that I never seem to be able to make happy even though they do usually hit capacity. Good luck with the size limit on The Castle, that one takes a lot of planning to build if you want to do more than just use the existing structure as is.

Great to see another video, and Preston just started bugging me about Nordhagen but this is my first time playing FO4 so it's nice to see what's going on. As for the garden, I think the main problem you had is that Gourds take up a ton of space so you can't plant anything else anywhere near them. Also at 24:44 you're having trouble with stairs not reaching the ground, those stair units will snap to each other creating super long stairs, so a 2nd one like the one you originally had on there would snap on the bottom of the 1st.
@Deirdre-v7r4 ай бұрын
I love Nordhagen. I made a victorian glass greenhouse-style spa complete with an emersion pool. Decorated with victorian style chairs and couches with sinks. And cans of healthful purified water. To make corn plots hold more put the plot in a wide open space and place corn then you can throw in 5 carrots, or one gourd. I msde a fishing pier with a bait shop/ fish znd chips place . It has a fish smoker made from a wooden privy, the short fish rack full of fish, the open fire and a screen door. Pillsr glitched. My NPCs love eating at the FISH SHACK.

@IfThenCreate I don't know if you spotted the earlier comment on gourds, but they have the largest footprint of any crop, even razorgrain. If you want to replace them at Nordhagen, though, you either have to delete them, or move them, but at THIS settlement, and Somerset Place, if you move crops, you might have "phantom plants" where the game thinks the moved crop is still there. Taking the settlers off of farming duty will help with this, but there is still a chance for this to happen.

You are so kindhearted to worry about the kids farming. Can I share my experience? I am a 6th gen Texas ranchers kid. When we were little I would beg my grandfather (opa) to let me help him feed all the animals. It was one of my favorite things to do. I named them and everything. In fact, I would get mad when he wouldn’t wake me up to help him feed them in the morning. Then we would come back to the garden and pick out the best veggies of the day we would eat for lunch or dinner. We would do some weeding or garden care and then I’d eat breakfast with my family and we would get turned loose to run around and play till lunch. At lunch or dinner sometimes I’d help my grandma cook the veggies we picked out and she’d teach me how to cook or tell me stories as I watched her. As we got older I got more responsibilities and my brother and I did more of the feeding of the animals and cleaning the stalls as my grandparents aged and had a harder time. I absolutely loved ranch life and my city friends would come over and loved to do stuff around the farm too. So just think of those kids like they were like me and my brother. Our cows knew me so well they let me play with their babies and same with the ewes and goats even if they were just born. It was a really cool experience and now that my grandparents have all passed away, I would give anything to go back and spend a day on the ranch with them just like that. ❤

I love watching you build and the results. It does puzzle me why you start the beacon immediately. If you wait to attract people you can build your grand vision and design much more easily. You don’t have an increasing number of people getting in the way and you aren’t forced to react to unhappiness by quickly implementing builds for the sake of happiness. There are many ways to have a happy settlement if settlers aren’t part of the settlement till you are about 90% or more complete (except for settlements that already have 2 or 3).

200+ years after the bombs fell, this settlement is one of my largest & most modern. Crude structures are a non-starter. As I have stated in your previous build videos, humanity has a desire to achieve, advance, & build. There are great mod packages that reflect man's innate desire to build more advanced villages, towns, & cities. Remember, there are vault dwellers leaving vaults with well established technology's throughout the nation. Have a clearer vision of what the vault dwellers bring to rebuilding society.
@themudpit6219 ай бұрын
I think it depends a lot on your head canon. When it comes to 'advancement', 200 years in a healthy abundant planet full of people is not the same as 200 years in a dead world, with barely enough food and toxic water to survive on, and a couple of thousand very sick suffering people scattered to the winds. People play it out in whatever way makes sense to them and their imeginations. All valid, all different.
