You can also put tape on the sections that still needs to be shiny. Or can create your own logo with the tape before blasting. As you showed the second bell there were some silvery parts on it. Tape those parts and start blasting. Results can be amazing. Do this to horns(a crappy instrument), not to instruments unless you know what you are doing.

Bit of an abrupt ending there Trent! Never mind, I'm looking forward to episode 2 where you will "varnish" the bell!

Great video! Is there a way to get this kind of look with sandpaper rather than sandblasting?

Lots of information available on web for metal finishing and sand blasting. Sand for sand blasting is made from smashing larger rocks so it has sharp rough surface to scratch away material efficiently. Sand blasting sand is hazardous for lacerations. Walnut shell is another blasting material, there is also glass as hazardous blasting material. Play sand, like beach sand is worn and smooth from tumbling. There is a "brass darkening" liquid treatment I think interesting but I've not seen it on musical instruments except maybe flutina key to pallet rods which are dark, and might be bronze instead of brass.

Does anyone know the name of the music at the end? I know I've played it before but I can't remember what it was called.

Great how you increased the surface area for all sorts of corrosion to attach the metal on. I like experiments. I like your linguistic creativity with it. Great video as always, but maybe not the best idea to refinsh instruments ;)

It looks very much like a horn that w. Marsalis plays similar finish almost. I do wonder if it's going to change the way the horn resonates or what has to be done if you wanted to keep that look. Clear coat of some kind?

Hello Trent! I recently stumbled upon a 1960s era Getzen trumpet (if you would like the details please message me)which I had been looking for for quite some time. I got it at a very good price but one thing was very wrong with it, that being the bell. It appears to have need dropped straight on the bell. The throat is still very close to being in the correct shape but the "crumple" is about 4 cm from the rim of the bell and I live much too far from a repair shop to let them repair it. I would really like it if you would consider making a tutorial on how to fix such a thing. Thank you for your time! -King

Glass beads would be a better choice than sand. A tiny bit of knowledge would help before diving in. The "silver part of that brace is likely nickel or nickel-plate. Most of the solder can be removed by heating it until it melts and wiping it off with a rag or paper towel.

No edits here allowed, ? You need a lot of air to cut metals , Option next powdered brass or silver mixed with powdered flux and a good wide gas torch , work it small to large , use brass brush to apply. Care full near solder joints. Look at brass LPG gas ga

Why is there rust on a brass instrument? Try baking soda, it is gentile enough to remove lacquer but not metal. Cheers.
