I have a 1937 Buescher Cornet. Its a "Pat applied" for "The 400" model that is in beautiful shape and plays well

I bought this horn 2 weeks ago. I've been enjoying it for the past week. Very nice, fairly light weight. It comes with a 5C mouthpiece. I just ordered a replacement Jet Tone, so I'll see what come of that.

I find the idea of this instrument very interesting, but it’s like they chose the worst possible execution at every step.

I liked the wedge better overall except for one, maybe two of highest notes that seemed really weak/thin during wedge playing. I have one Rose tenor trombone sold with a cornet mouthpiece. I like each trombone to have a mouthpiece particular to it, so in addition to finding where I put the random mouthpiece selection I bought, I will start checking up on Shilke or a plastic Wedge mouthpiece for the guestimated 110+ year old Rose that I like, but that has no clamp of any kind, slide just pushes into joint, stays in place better than I would have thought, I could lip slur anywhere I wanted with the cornet mouthpiece. Rose slotted hard with a trombone mouthpiece.

As a trombonist, the slide lock has saved me many times, and hopefully he made his money back from these KZbin videos

It's awesome to see how much better your tone has gotten over the many years since I first started seeing your videos.

A trombonist friend bought himself a Jupiter soprano trombone, but he had trouble playing it across its intended register, while as a trumpet player it was no problem at all for me (I was struggling a bit with the slide, but surprisingly it's not that hard to adapt to). You can even use trumpet mutes on it, so in that respect, I see it more as a slide trumpet, although I know it's not its real name.

Yeah - take out the reeds and try out a trumpet or clarinet mouthpiece on the air-inlet end

If you want to make it more convenient to hold (at the expense of looks) you could solder on a metal ring.

The 'grit' was actually lapping compound, pre-applied for the break-in period. They save [a lot of] money on post-lapping your valves by letting you do it.

I saw that Wessex has made a new contra. Dual rotors and allows for either German or American tuning. I'm thinking about getting one.

These were also used in German Communist and National Socialists parades prior to WW2, I've seen and heard them in propaganda videos and actually sounded great when playing with multiple others. They were never meant to play in orchestras or with normal Wind Ensembles.

I got an independant bass trombone for my birthday in 2024, and switched to it this year and I am more comfortable with it. Have not gotten its own part yet tho, but I love playing it more than normal trombone.

I don't have any experience buying new brass instruments, but I've bought an electric bass from a similar chinese company three years ago, and It worked great, really comfortable to play. Then I decided to buy a guitar, similar brand, similar price, but awful. It wasn't properly wired, the neck finish was very rough, the tuners were terribe... It's all a gamble. I say if you can easily return them, it's worth it if you know what you're doing

10 years late to this video, but middle school me from the early 00s, feels vindicated after being embarrassed asking my band teacher if a bass trumpet was a thing in front of the whole class then being laughed at! thank you trent!

As several have mentioned, Brasso leaves a film which stopped the stuff adhering. Degreaser followed by weak, warm detergent rinsed thoroughly would have been better. The product will indeed leave a _very thin_ coat of silver which can look good, but it is not suitable for anything which is regularly handled. My vintage Dunhill lighter looked great - for two days - then it simply wore off within a week. The layer is microns thick only.
