Hello Pete. Golf Professional from Maryland. Sand before solid-tine aerification, for two reasons. It gives the sand more time "under the Sun", allowing excess moisture to evaporate, making the spreading process less time consuming. Also, as you mentioned, it reduces machine traffic closing the aerification holes "too soon". Long time viewer. Appreciate all of your hard work!

Recently graduated out of the Texas A&M Turf program, we were told that it doesn’t matter all that much. However at the course I worked at we always punched holes first then top dressed. In my not so professional opinion people overthink little stuff like that too much and it’s more important to just keep up with the cultural practices. It definitely seems like personal preference and just something else to bicker about

Pete, you're a hard working man and I respect your work ethic and attention to quality work, just like my dad. A few months back you talked about some diet and health things you changed and how much better you feel. Can you give an update on how its going, things you're doing, changes you see in yourself/progress you made, etc. I know success doesn't always come in a straight line.

How long did that take you, Pete? 2 days, or was that completed in 1 day? That yard looks awesome. Hopefully, you will do a follow-up video to show results. Which grass seed would you recommend for a more shady yard? 65/35 shade/sun

Aerate then sand is the practice we use in the golf course i work at. The difference is we use a hollow tine core areator and we collect the plugs. Then we fill the holes with sand. We use solid tines for more open areas that are not as high detail. We use it more in our park areas when they get heavy traffic after events and we have to bring it back without too much work. Light poke up then water and fert. Sanding is what we do to the greens

Hey Pete. My front yard is half Bermuda, but under my large oak tree, I have to improvise and overseed every spring and fall with perennial rye to keep that area green. If I sand level my Bermuda, can I just do the whole yard and include the perennial rye, or would it die? I mow at about 3/4 inch every 5 days.

At our golf course we always aerate first if we’re going for drainage or soil amendment with the sand. If we’re just leveling we don’t aerate at all.
@porterhodges7275 ай бұрын
This is where I’d like to see the hydrostatic tractors be able to run Deere precision equipment. You could set headland and autotrac lines for near perfect aeration coverage with 0 overlap. Would be very useful on golf courses.

Mr Pete, ask if your friend to take pictures and send to you every couple days, and add them as shorts or just as photos, so folks can see just how quick that Alpha, running rampant, pissed off Bermuda ACTUALLY overcomes sand leveling.
@Primetime_Fescue5 ай бұрын
For years and years everyone always aerated and then sand but through the years a lot of folks are switching to top dressing first then doing aerification! Your doing aerification to relieve compaction and open holes up so water nutrients oxygen gas exchange and sand can get down trough the holes! Why do aerification then run a heavy top top dresser over it that’s gonna add compaction back and potentially close up the holes!
