@howulikedemrice
@howulikedemrice 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThynBlueSlym That may have been true in the 60s and 70s... these days department internal affairs are very proactive which results in discipline or termination. Many departments now have police oversight boards that include citizens of the jurisdiction who reviews body cams and internal affairs investigations. Many times the investigation is turned over to an outside agency or the state... It is also a fact that since the introduction of body cams, use of force and overall complaints have gone down significantly. This is due to Officer's being more cognizant of their actions and also less people filing fake & frivolous complaints against Officer's. It keeps both parties honesty. Officers do not have issues with body cams. Most welcome it. It helps with prosecution of the crime, often times showing how stupid criminals are.

Assault on an officer carries tougher penalties than assault on a "regular" person; killing an officer carries a higher penalty than killing a "regular" person...I firmly believe that this should work both ways. California legislation is the reason not the judge. Judge issues a sentence based on what the law states as punishment for the crime. Maximum time you can get is 12 years ... that's what you get. I've watched cases where the judges wished they could sentence the person to more time but the law didn't allow it. That's why drug traffickers get more time because the punishment is longer based on legislation also they take in account the amount of people say you were smuggling in 30 kilos of meth or fentynal, they take in consideration the amount of people it can kill.

Being a cop is a pretty nasty job. It seems to me with the modest pay, and difficult work conditions etc, there has to be something deep down that motivates a person to be a cop. Let's skip the classic line of - I want to serve my city - as it is nonsense. I am thinking the thought of the power trip is the real motivator You can boss around all kinds of people. And if you like to take advantage of others, like females, you can stop them and tell them you will drive them home or to jail. And then, like Chris Hays, ex-SDPD, try to extract sexual favors from them, but making sure they have a police record or have job that will cast doubt on their credibility, because deep down, you know the gig will eventually get reported to your superiors and you need to convince your bosses these women are proven liars. Your ideas sound very intelligent. just like Cops leave unlocked bikes for thieves to grab and then they grab the thief ! So too should law enforcement set up stings for cops, to test their adherence to the LAW, when they think their co workers and bosses are not looking.

@@shanghunter7697 Look at the Christopher Hays, SDPD case. Hiring board said NOT FIT to be a cop. His Father in law was #4 cop on Dept and ordered him hired. Probably around 2010. He worked alone in mid city. He would stop females he knew who had some priors and if they appeared a bit DUI , he told them he would drive them home. Then he would attack them once in the residence. After victim #1 came forward in 2015 on TV, another 30 came forward. He was hit with 7 felonies and faced 40 years. Bonnie the DA, and unknown forces, plea bargained it down to a misdemeanor and he never admitted guilt. Bonnie said only 7 of the 30 were CREDIBLE. Imagine if the average citizen sexually attack 7 females ! He got 180 days in jail, served 90 and split town. His evangelical wife called the women all liars. He does not have to register. He is a welder in Tennessee. Guys who did 1/10 th of what he did, are sitting in Folsom or Donovan or Chico working down an 18 year sentence. 30 women who do not know each other, all gave much the same type of story, under oath. Those are just the brave ones. He was a cop for 4 years. Seems like this was his true reason for being a cop. Experts say in these type of cases, only a small % of victims come forward, as they don't want their name in the paper or might be married or have a good job. SMH.

@@shanghunter7697 It was either Channel 8 or 10 that gave a lot of airtime to the sexual assault victims of HAYS when they came public. I think it as around 2015. A few went on TV, dozens more made formal complaints. Hays was a San Diego cop who was cruising in the mid city precinct for his victims, while on duty ! Typically, he was looking for women with warrants, priors or if they had consumed a drink that night. He made them an offer, many felt they could not refuse. Go to jail or we can go to your place for a sex favor. Hays was married with 2 kids. He was facing 45 years in prison for a slew of serious felonies. The charging indictment was shockingly melted down to 1 misdemeanor over a 6 month time frame. After the DA Bonnie Dumanis had FIRST said the women's stories are credible, 6 months later, she basically threw all their stories out the window except 1. There was NO TRIAL. Hays got 180 days, served 90 days and relocated to Tennessee. He is not a registered sex offender. Why not ? Because if you are a serial sex offender, engaging in those FELONIES under the color of authority, and your father in law is Deputy Chief of Police and has the the luxury of a few months to chat with the DA and others, those 7 felonies can be melted down to a short time out in the local jail. 90 days versus 45 years in prison..... is nothing short of a miracle or in my mind, an extreme MISCARRIAGE of justice. Hays was an ex Marine, who was rejected by the hiring board, as not fit to be a cop. The Father in law ordered that he be hired. And for4 years after he got badge, he roamed the street of the mid city area, hunting for women who could satisfy his sexual appetite, despite being an Evangelical who went to church with the wife.

Heartbreaking, I initially thought he sent pictures, but he actually physically connected with the 14yr old he paid $100? At first I thought his sentence was just for enticing a minor online and maybe he didn't realize they were minors..All of the families, his wife and child are in my prayers today. I will be also praying for convicted man that God will heal his mind, perverse will and emotions. I will also pray for his mother and father I know if they are alive they are devastated, angry, experiencing under merited guilt, especially if they gave their best to ensure that he was raised well. I'm in faith that the wife will still allow the grandparents to be involved in their grandchild's life. You see when people commit crimes, it's as if all of the family & love ones are sentenced as well. There is still repentance, forgiveness, salvation, restoration and a 2nd chance with no condemnation. God bless everyone!

I wish more people in the comments section had your holistic and compassionate mindset. Most of the comments are violent and hateful. And I get why people don’t and shouldn’t want bad things to happen to others, but then they want all the wrath of God for others! I wonder if many of these blood thirsty commenters realize the many ways that mistakes they might have made in their past or if they were in dangerous parts of the world, they might be in the same position. Having been both a police officer and an officer with the Cal. Dept. of Corrections at Folsom and San Quentin prisons for 23 years, if he pleaded guilty to 20 felony and misdemeanors for actual sex acts with young girls and only got 12 years, he got the plea bargain deal of the century. If he would have gone to trial he would have been facing triple digits. But his real sentence is going to be life without life; his life expectancy in prison will be about the attention span of a fruit fly with ADHD. Adios buddy.

I worked in victim services for several years, and the woman training me was brutally honest with victims about how it would probably go. How her name would be dragged through the mud in our small town, how it could affect her children or family or even job, how they most likely would have to face their abuser and potentially walk right out of the courtroom at the end. Naive me thought it was bad and mean. Now, after watching what these woman go through by being revictimized by the court, getting very little if any justice, I understand she was just trying to get them through it with as few emotional scars as possible. Until the way we sentence SAers changes there will rarely be justice for any victims.
