Theo James who portrays Sidney Parker is my favorite. He is stunningly handsome, a great actor and was the heart and soul of Sanditon. Season one of Sanditon was true to J.A. until it wasn't. Wish Theo had the opportunity to continue as Sidney for a HEA. Fans were very unhappy.

But he DID have the opportunity. He just didn't want to. Sometimes it's money, scheduling, or creative differences. But the point is that he chose to go. They were forced to write him out. I don't understand people blaming the show for him not caring what fans want. And I don't blame him for THAT, because it's a business. It's not about people pleasing. And if they'd end up together, then what?! It would have been dull. And def no season 3. For me, I prefer Alexander Colbourne because Sidney just came at Charlotte too wrong too many times. The idea that a woman is going to fall in love with a guy who has been a complete you-know-what to her is just tired. Colbourne we understand because he has suffered, he's experienced pain. His gruffness is understandable, he's guarded. But Sidney was just cocky and demeaning for no good reason. For these reasons, I find that the story has been far more interesting this way. Just my opinion! I understand being disappointed though...

@@patriciaholloway First of all Theo completed his contract by filming 8 episodes of Sanditon season 1. When the news came the show was not renewed the writers had a choice. They could have, and should have had Sidney and Charlotte marry. Yes they had a rocky start with many misunderstandings, but so did Darcy and Lizzy. Jane Austin always wrote her heroes using a "slow burn" ending in a deep love. The arguments between S and C were filled with passion. They were not indifferent to each other. Indifference would mean no caring and that was far from the truth. The chemistry between Theo and Rose leaped off the screen. Everything fan of J. A. was waiting for the HEA signature ending. Instead we got heartbreak.Season 2 and S3 have no relation to an Austen story. Sidney who sacrificed so much for his family and for Georgiana is barely mentioned in S2. In S3 his character is impuned in court. G's father is revealed to have SOLD her mother. Where is the father who set his slaves free! Where is the man who saved Sidney's life in Antigua? Where is the father who asked Sidney to guard his daughter? Instead we have Otis, who gambled G's life, coming forward as her love. Edward, the worst kind of fiend, is now a pius man. I guess the hosing helped. Why not waterboarding?? We have Lady Susan ( with a different title) a cast off mistress of the King. Then we have Alexander stealing the scene from 2005's P and P where Matthew Macfadyen walks to Lizzy to declare his love. How anyone can compliment this afront to what could have been a beautiful Austen last love heroes story I will never know.

Season 2 could never be dull. Not with Theo and Rose married. The writers thought that cliffhanger ending would lead to reuniting S and C. The show was not well received in the UK. But in US wildly popular. A petition was signed by S and C fans who wanted to see them married. Reunited! Instead the writers wrote this nonsense which Theo was not interested in being part of. Jane Austen never wrote such nonsense. So the writers decided they knew better than Austen. They ignored the petition for S and C to be reunited, killed Sidney and wrote this mess of a story. That was an insult to every fan that worked hard to get signatures. They were duped. Read any JA story and then tell me her heroes do not come together in the end. Once the writers knew the show was canceled they should have ended it in season1 episode 8.

I will add this paragraph from an interview with Andrew Davies. It proves Sidney and Charlotte should have continued their new realized love in S2. From Andrew Davies:- Not going to give away the story lines here! But if we get a second series there will be more sexual tension for Sidney and Charlotte and a big power struggle for the soul of Sanditon. Once the show was not renewed they should have ended it with S and C marrying. That is how Austen would have.

@@elliecohen9206 The facts are that he announced he wouldn't be returning just a couple days after the renewal notice. Which says he had already made up his mind, renewal or not. He said " I've always maintained that his journey concluded as I wanted it to" . He went on to say "the broken fairytale-like ending between Charlotte and Sydney is different, unique, and so interesting to me...",. Newsweek reported that after the first season ended, the shows producer, B. Campbell, said Charlotte and Sydney would "absolutely" get together in season 2 and that " of course Sidney is going to find a way around it". Campbell later confirmed that Theo had at one point been in talks to return but he had other opportunities. Meanwhile, the network was busy trying to secure financing. In early 2022, as negotiating was going on for the show, he was announced as the lead for HBO's 'Time Traveler's Wife '. Campbell said "Theo made it very clear he did not want to come back.". She went on to discuss how to handle his departure. The quote by Davies is correct and only emphasizes my point. They only have 6 short episodes to tell the season. They can't spend each episode with everyone grieving Sidney. But also.... much time has passed in between Charlotte losing Sidney and Charlotte falling in love again. It just doesn't feel like it when you only get 6 episodes! The show is billed as "Austen inspired".... not verbatim Austen. But also, I would never be so presumptuous as to know how she might have finished the story. There's many things about her writing of the beginning of Sanditon that was a departure for her. This is referenced by Andrew Davies in his interviews. And lastly, if you don't like a show, don't watch. I loved it, as many did. The show has ended. Maybe you should move on to something you actually would enjoy.

This comment is in such poor taste. Who cares about her personal life??? It's PERSONAL. It's HER life. Maybe you should get one. BTW, I have a daughter turning 25 this year and never dated ever. She's not gay or messing with a married person. She identifies as asexual, which simply means she isn't really interested in anyone. She couldn't care less about being in a relationship. Incidentally, I've been in many during my life, but single now, and also don't give a damn about being in a relationship myself. I am , as is my daughter, as is Rose...a complete and whole person.
