40 yrs after I listened to one of my favourite live albums of all time over and over again (when 16-17 yrs old), listening to it by ear only and trying to play along with it on a cheap Gibson SG imitation without any lesson, footage or notes... and now (just surfing on a Saturday afternoon) I ran into this cover of "Who Knows" on KZbin. Wòw... if I only would have had this cover/lesson played straight before my eyes back then! Well done, Alex. Great job.

Simple things can make great song. I mean, that's Pentatonic Blues, and all the guitar part is built around that. JH was a great composer.

No doubt. The guitar draws one into a corner. But Jimi is deeply screwed into the guitar. Deep insight and dedication. Knows how to write every inch of a piece. And his touch is highly distinguished. Probably the most feel in his hands of anyone

You could spend several lifetimes trying to duplicate that pinch-harmonic solo, but not even Jimi did that. He flowed free over his framework. If you've heard the 2nd show from that night, you'll have a whole lot of other phrases to unravel. Still, amazing guitarin' there

not too shabby. Very nice. I think you should know that Hendrix tuned down full step on both Machine Gun and who knows. another thing that is funny is that when Buddy miles starts adlibbing they don't know what I know, it was because Hendrix broke a string. don't think I am dissing your fine work here. but He tuned down one full step for both songs. you can hear the overall heaviness of the lower tuning as a result on both Machine Gun and Who Knows. Tony iommi took it a whole step and a half tuning to C#, which Hendrix had done with the 12 string acoustic Hear my train a coming's, but he got the idea from who knows and especially machine Gun tuned down a whole step to the key of D.

It sounds like ponch harmonics in the second solo. Is that what youre doing or do you have some kind of pedal to make it sound like that? Maybe a fuzz pedal idk
@playtimehulot73834 жыл бұрын
Yes!! I would like to know it too! Thanks for answering!
@keepongroovin75674 жыл бұрын
I know this is dated a bit, but Alex using an Octavia/Octavio for the effect, like Hendrix. As in the name, it boosts the notes an octave whilst still reminiscing of the original note. The pedal comes in additional fuzz. When he was in Fillmore East, he used a Dunlop 69, however he still used his traditional Dunlop Fuzz Face. If you're wondering what songs Hendrix has used it on, I'd recommend "Crash Landing" and "Jimmy/Jimi Jam", however he did use the Roger Mayer one that was used for the Axis: Bold As Love sessions.
