I read a biography about Bobby Darin. After that reading I came to respect and admire Darin as a person and a great entertainer. There are some good posts here on KZbin of Bobby Darin performances. Unfortunately, Sandra Dee had a truly unfortunate life. Her mother was basically a controlling and evil person whom Sandra could not separate from. They are buried at the same cemetery plot. Connie Francis, also loved Bobby Darin, and pays him the ultimate compliments when ever she talks about him. Her father would not allow that marriage. Her biggest regret in life. These entertainment parents were protecting their meal tickets for the most part. Bobby Darin, a rarity in the entertainment world, was a multi-talented individual with class and personal integrity. Great singing and music talent for sure. The 1963 film, "Captain Newman, MD" reveals Bobby's acting talent. He accomplished much in his short life.

All they have to do is research their topic to get as close to correct info as they can, but they are lazy and just post hearsay to get a video out. There's one guy who does a lot on Elvis. He has to be very careful because there's more books out there on Elvis than about anyone else and many fans have read them. So he gets called out if he messes up.

It's such a sad story. Not the usual Hollywood nonsense we hear about. The drugs and alcohol and even the anorexia are often heard in the business, but the background of the story is so tragic. The poor couple was damaged long before they started careers or knew each other. I pray their son has been able to learn and live a better existence than his parents.

If you took the time to google him, you would know that Dodd, their son, is now 60 years old. He has been married to his first and only wife, Audrey, since 1993. They have two children and there is a good chance the kids are now grown up. Dodd is an actor and author among other things and seems to have achieved happiness without being a major star himself.

......This was so saddening to me , when Bobby Darin passed away... I had seen him perform, in Vegas, and I was 17 at the time. Had a crush on him, of course ...what living ,breathing woman wouldn't.... ?!! I shed tears, learning he was passing away, and I also was sad at the fact that he and Sandra Dee had not gotten remarried, before that time. He was so talented, such a loss. And then Sandra.... spiraling into self medication, which , although saddening, it was like " textbook behaviours ", you just knew she didn't have the strength within to not be tempted by that, because of her past and bad parenting. Wow rheumatic fever was a death sentence. My Dad died at 33 from the effects with three damaged heart valves. The we’re doing experimental surgery then and two years later 1959 the were ok’d to do heart valve replacements.

I was one of those teenage boys from the early 60s that had Sandra Dee's pics all over my bedroom wall and I was also a big fan of Bobby Darin. I bought and read Todd Darin's biography of his Dad, Bobby Darin years ago when he first wrote the book. It was the first time I ever heard of Sandra Dee's sexual abuse by her stepfather and it was extensive, I didn't have a clue. This was not out there in the public eye and common knowledge like it would be in today's digital world. Bobby Darin had a valve replaced in his heart that was somewhat successful but not to soon after, Bobby had his teeth cleaned at the dentist and unfortunately didn't take antibiotics, which should have been done to prevent an infection to his heart which is exactly what happened. His heart got an infection as a result from the teeth cleaning and this is what finally ended Bobby Darin's life. This was all in Todd Darin's biography of his dad, it's really a good book, I highly recommend it! Great video, thanks!

Very tragic lives they both led. Dodd, their son, wrote a book about their lives. You left out that Bobby married a second time to Andrea Yeager whom he had dated. They were married only a few months before Bobby divorced her. Sadly, he passed in December 1973 just 4 days after Dodd' s 12 th birthday. With Bobby's severe heart issues and Sandra's alcohol addiction plus anorexia, it is doubtful they would have reconciled IMO, but they did love each other to the end and were devoted parents to their son. Beautiful, immensely talented couple who represented Hollywood of the 1960' s. Both died too soon.

I read her bio which included that she saw her real father only one time after the divorce, on a bus in Bayonne but they never spoke. When she was 6! Friends of mine lived a few doors down from Sandra Dee's condo in West Hollywood. I never saw her, but I did see her old Rolls Royce parked in the building's underground garage. It had a big dent in it and was leaking oil. Like the actress, it had seen better days. Very sad! RIP

Bobby loved Sandra Dee, and couldn't get her out his heart. They were soul mates. Bobby never stop loving Sandra, she was his one and only true love. So did Sandra, she never got over Bobby regardless of their divorce and much less after his passing. She kept him alive in her life and heart, and dedicated her life to raise their sin Dodd Darin. I didn't like the movie they made about his life story, because it was a musical, not a true movie about his life and struggles, his love life, his great writing career, singing, acting and specially his beatyful songs and movie scores. No other singer in Hollywood wrote his own songs, Bobby Darin did. If any star in HOLLYWOOD deserved special recognition m, that was Bobby Darin. A ONE MAN SHOW. HE SANG, PRAYED MANY INSTRUMENTS, PUT A FANTASTIC SHOW, LIKE NO ONE ELSE. What bithers me the most, is the choice of the actor who was chosed to play him was to old to play a young talented BOBBY DARIN. Nobody could fill his shoes. He was special. GLARING ERROR IN VIDEO! Dee's co-star in "A Summer Place" was Troy Donahue, who was pictured in video. However, narrator stated that her co-star was Bobby Darin in the film. Had Darin been born later, it is likely that modern medicine could have saved him. Heart surgery has greatly improved in the decades since his death and nowadays antibiotics are given early for strep infections. We rarely see rheumatic heart disease now as a result.

I think Bobby and his lifestyle was too fast for Sandra. I see her as a little girl being guided into a grown up world that she wasn’t comfortable with. I think as any teen would be, she was probably jealous of Bobby work and leaving her out of his life. She was clingy and he was already used to doing as he liked. It’s a heartbreaking story because if they knew what was ahead… they would have tried to help and understand each other better. Doctors always put actresses on speed to give them energy and of course so they wouldn’t gain weight. There’s no telling how many young lives were ruined because of speed during that time. They learned lessons throughout their time apart. I believe she learned to take Bobby without trying to change him and he learned it was nice to have someone to come home to especially a son. and beautiful woman.
