Could have done with this video 4 weeks ago as wasn't completely sure and the manufacturer of the slabs said they didn't need priming. I found out the hard way and had to start using this type of slurry which makes a HUGE difference!!! Thanks again

Hi there. Superb advice here that no-one told us when we've been getting quotes for a patio we want with porcelain. But I love the stone you've used in this. Can you tell me what one it was? We want a non riven stone so not the Kandla or similar and thought it was only the porcelain that would fit the 'smooth' brief. We just don't want any waterlogging like we have with another patio we have within the undulations of the surface. Jetwashing is a long job and we don't always have time so this stone looks great. @@GreentopLandscapes Hi John, I really couldn't make this stuff up, 2 of the paving slabs are too high and two one of them damaged chipping away at it with a metal crowbar !! I couldn't open my patio doors properly, anyway he came back last Tues unannounced and looked at then said he would lift and replace the lot , I said really ? So hey ho took the paving stone and ran not heard since, thank god I had not paid him for crap work. But this team of cowboys are on the Trading Standards Buy with Confidence site !!!! So what hope do we have ?? Fed up with the lot of it. I'm just praying that someone genuine will help me sort it out perhaps b4 next Christmas, but I cant tell you just how gutted i am.

Great advice! I live in Denmark and am planning laying my own patio with 900x290x30mm slabs. I have be told not to lay sandstone in a mortar base due to frost heave, but instead use a sharp sand base . I have a 150mm MOT Type 1 base what do you think? We often get winters with frost to -6 to -12C Great channel and thanks for the great advice! :)

Hi, Thanks for video. May I ask you I have prepared my base with road base and compacted it well. Does it have to be 100 % level. It has few high and low spots at few places that I am not able to rectify to 100 %. Would adding pavers sand on next step not fix these few spots. As I am doing pavers 60 cm x60 cm x 2cm(thick) sandstone pavers installation how much would you recommend that pavers sand should be poured in. I was thinking 2-3 cm. Please share. Thank You !

Your videos have given me the confidence to do my own patio in a couple of weeks, it's going to be sandstone slabs boarded all the way around by oak sleepers. Can you tell me what I should fill the gap around the edge of the patio between slabs and sleepers with, is it ok to use jointing compound? I'm just concerned with any possible movement from the sleepers and it cracking the compound.

Hi John, I have a rectangle pond finished in concrete block, I am about to cement the coping stones tomorrow which are 1200x330x20mm porcelain . My question is....... I dont think i can use any additives to a slurry mix just in case anything leaches back into the pond over time... I have never used a slurry before... Can i just make a sharp sand and cement slurry without any additives ? if so what mix would you advise please mate. and also do i apply the slurry to the blockwork 1st. then put my bed of muck, then slurry the back of the tile also ? Hi Bud, try and use an adhesive from a tube for coping stones for this sort of job as it will not leach into the pond, its the water based additives that break down as the solvent based ones that have the fixers in them that don't break down like the water based ones if that makes sense.

I had some paving done and they forgot to use slurry, and a few have become loose. If I lift the slab and apply slurry, will that restick it down?

In a previous video you said you also add SBR into the EasyPrime mix when using sandstone but I wondered what SBR you use and to what ratio as there aren’t any instructions for adding to an existing product like EasyPrime. Thanks.

Hi Jamie the SBR is to make your own slurry not into the Easyprime as it won’t need it

Hi Johnny I’m going to be laying some very old sandstone flags that were lifted out of a farm byre a few years ago tha farmer has agreed to give me them fairly cheap and there must be around 10 tons of them however they range from 2” to 4” would you use a priming slurry on them or just a very deep mortar bed at around 6:1 mix ? Hi Danny mate hope your well, these are real flag stone just 6 : 1 All sharp maybe a sprinkle of cement mixed thoroughly like a screed mix they will not move bud, just work to lines, be good to see.

great vids mate,quick question about the slurry you use how long does it stay usable if i mix a bag as im doing the job by myself i have to knock up the muck as well as prime the slabs and then lay them and if i was to use sbr do i mix it with cement powder and if so whats the best ratio,btw its indian sandstone slabs that im using.Thanks for any advise

Depends, just make sure you clean the back of the slab first and have you slurry creamy so it sticks

I have a 30 year solid concrete slab onto which I want to lay a sandstone patio. The slab is absolutely rock solid and in really good condition. Can I lay my mortar bed straight onto it, or do you think I should treat it first with anything?

Yes you can but seal it first so the concrete does not suck all the moisture out of the water

Hi, I've just fitted mint honed sandstone for a customer and they have complained that there are some stains. I've gone to take a look and they've left some wood on the sandstone before I have sealed. what's the best way to get the stain out, its a brownish colour.

Brown indicates its a Iron deposit, Azpects got a product or you can use that stuff called the Pink stuff try that

So I just buy a bottle if SBR, tip it into a bucket and paint it on the back of the slab (neat) and then put that on my mortar mix of 5:1 building sand and cement? Will this give guaranteed adhesion?

Hi Johnny, I've just bought some sawn 6 sided raj green locally. It has got quite a few little chips on the edges, just wondered if this in normal with sawn? Its the first time I've bought it, the suppliers said its normal to chips. To be honest they stand out like a sore thumb because the stone is cut so square and flat. Has the product your showing in this video got chipped edges? Thanks, Joe.

Hi Joe, thanks for your feedback mate, I personally don't think they should have chips the idea of sawn Honed stone is so it has that sleek contemporary neat edge, have you laid them mate? Thos I have used many time and generally they are good. send me a picture mate let me see.

My client wasn't happy to settle for chiped edges as the main reason for choosing sawn was for that sharp neat finish. Shame really, because they really liked the stone but couldn't justify the extra money for a damaged product. Thanks

Yes we can, just don't put to much water in the mix and not below Freezing and dont lay to late in the day, You could even use som rapid hardener

Well in theory You should break out and Relay, but if you are not compromising the levels, try Mapei exterior adhesive.

You can just wet the back of the slab with water and a brush before laying...and keep your mix wet, but not to wet, just wet!

Gavin mate, its not a British Standard, but there is an hate of this practice and some of the landscaping community will pick you up on it, the worlds number one Landscaper mark Gregory once said what all the fuss about, i think its just best to leave them out and to be honest I don't like them now I think lol.
