If you coat your starfish with Mid Podge first they will stay white. And I mix my little seashells in clear resin so the bubbles don’t come out in the resin

If you put your sand on the same spot in every shape you can elevate your molds just a cm so it won't run out. You can use less sand and still keep the sand in place 😉✌

You can get better lacing and cells if you add a few drops of 100% Silicone into your white mix so when you torch it it will create the cells and lacing!

That's awesome! Thanks for share all your ideas. How do you cut the edges? That is the only part that I can't do.
@HappyCraftingLady
@HappyCraftingLady 3 жыл бұрын
There’s many options. You can fill in the indention with resin so there is no more edge. Or you can sand the edges down and then very lightly fill in the scratches with resin to clear it back up. Or you can use something like a cuticle cutter to trim the sharp edge pieces off.

They turned out really great. Have you ever used embossing powder in your resin? Tiny bit goes a lot way and gives your resin with mica powder a stone ceramic look. I have some yellow and tan I am going to try in place of sand. Is that craft fair you were talking about in Rockwall, TX?
@HappyCraftingLady

Using a torch while using alcohol inks is very dangerous flammable. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to get rid if your bubbles at the same time you get that wavy effect as well

I've seen a few videos. I'm trying to learn how to do this. Your the first person I have seen use powder. Is there a difference between powder and liquid drops? And do you have a link to the things you used so we can get right to it? I loved that you used real sand and the seashells. Thank you for doing everything step by step.
@HappyCraftingLady

The powders tend to leave a shimmer in the resin which you don’t get from all ink drops. I believe the links for everything I used should be in the description of this video! Thank you so much for watching!

I find mixing sand in resin makes it look like mud I put thin layer of resin then sand that will look lighter then shells a thin layer of resin then everything else sometimes you get shakey effect or use clear film to purposely get shakey effect...but loved your video..keep crafting !!!
@HappyCraftingLady

I think it might be different with different kinds of sand. The sand I use is crafting sand. I really don’t think it’s the same. But I could be wrong. I left some bubbles in mine but there are some things that I hate having bubbles in!

can you make waves with the white mica powders too or does the alcohol ink work better for waves?

Usually with an exacto knife but I did recently buy a small dremmel tool that I use for sanding edges then I use a very tiny amount of resin and apply it with a paintbrush to fill in the scratches.

This video was recorded a year ago. I can not remember exactly how long. But I generally have a working time of less than 45 minutes before the resin gets too thick.

It's nice, but the sand is a little bit too dark. It's better if you add a little bit of white in it.
@HappyCraftingLady
@HappyCraftingLady 3 жыл бұрын
I agree that the resin did make the sand a darker color! I am not sure how this could have been combatted though. Maybe if I had used a lighter sand but I didn’t know it was gonna darken this much when I got the sand! Maybe next time I will get lighter sand and see what happens!

@HappyCraftingLady

I would say the amount I used for these coasters was probably about half a cup. If you were going to do more or less coasters or perhaps use more or less sand in the coasters you would need to adjust based on that.
