So many magnificent Sturt players I remember from my youth! Port were the arch enemies of the double blues and this was perhaps our finest hour!

Brilliant game that I'll always remember as an eye witness. For all the dirty tactics that Port played throughout the season to the final siren, Paul Bagshaw correctly put it as the finest hour in the history of the Sturt Football Club.

Your team may have won in 1976, but of course Port were not down for long. Won the premierships of 77, 79, 80 and 81. Hard not to laugh when Norwood beat you by 1 point in the 78 grand final. You should have won by 10 goals.

I remember Port beating Sturt over the years. I remember rubbing it in to my sturt mate when i was young and enjoying every time Port won the grand final year after year!..what a time to be young growing up.

As a Sturt supporter, I read these comments and realise why I love the rivalry between our teams. Imagine a life without this? I love that I hate Port. I love watching Port play and Norwood, Glenelg too. How lucky were we growing up during this time. Long live the SANFL

Just watched this for the first time ever since that day. I was there with my best mate and his dad, as a 12 year old in that massive crowd. As a Sturt supporter it was such an incredible day. What an amazing piece of SANFL history on so many levels.

My footy heroes, Paul Bagshaw, Rick Davies, Mick Noonan, Ken, Whelan, Michael Graham Jim, Derrington, Gary Mutton, Gary Hardeman, Trevor Sims, Robert Klomp, etc, etc. These were the days when loyalty to the club was paramount and the fans were united, loyal and passionate in their love for the club - before sport became a business and money ruled the roost.

Robbert Klomp played an absolute blinder that day .....I camped out overnight at Football Park , and had a front row seat....Will never forget that day ...Alas , it was to be a long 26 years before The Double Blues were to win another premiership ....Whilst Port won quite a few in that interim .

Nah pretty close I reckon :) Definitely the best day a 13 yo could ever have running out on the ground after the siren catching up with big number 24 who was superlative that day. Double Blue forever after that great day.

Begs the question. Other than the creation of Crows, Power, AFL and the game being cleaned up, how far has it all really come. SANFL seems like it was a great competition - maybe still is? Some of the suburban grounds are brilliant!

Yup, I was there that day. If you got in early it was outside the fence. Get theere late and sit inside the playing field. Sport ain't like that anymore.

one of the worst umpiring decisions ever at 14.34 where granger takes a mark over davies and gives away a free kick for nothing.
@pibroch7 ай бұрын
Correct umpiring decision. Grainger kicked Davies out of the competition then took the mark when he had already landed - not while he was in the air. That's illegal. If he had used Davies as a stepladder and marked the ball when he was off the ground THAT would have been legit.
