So this panel will charge a 24v battery bank?
@reddyman691522 күн бұрын
Interesting about the solar blanket . Thanks for the information about the Kings battery box when I last commented . I looked up what my Water Snake trolling motor uses and it can draw up to 44 amps ,well above the 30 amps on the Kings battery box.Yesterday I spent $69 on a XTM box rated to 60 ah , so this will stay in the boat and I will use the Kings just to run my fridge and camp lights . My question to you is - I am waiting on a I tech 100 watt Solar blanket to charge up my 60 ah Kings Lithium battery when at camp , do you think it will be enough Solar ,or should I have gone for a bigger blanket ? I can always add another if needed . How does a Solar charger stop the charge getting above 13.4V so I am not charging to %100 all the time ? Thanks ( from the novice lol ) Cheers !

If you're planning on using that whole battery power each day, if you can a bigger panel would be better. But if say that pretty much regardless of the usage. I think you'd be very lucky to get it topped up again in a day of good conditions if you were staying from flat. Plus I'm guessing you would want to be using it while the suns up. Giving you less time to charge. Keep in mind the slower you run the motor the less power it will use. You don't need to run it full tits all the time 😁 is this set up on a kayak ?

@ No ,just around the camp .cheers

Lovely Ep and setup, Only thing I would say is if your Lithium battery was full to start with the Controller will only put in the battery what your fridge is using not what the Blanket can do, I am not a fan of solar blankets 99.9% of people and my mates lay them on the ground like you and in no time they overheat and put out SFA amps, your test you have it laying on the grass, The ones with legs I have found outperform the ones laying on the ground I have found,

I made sure the battery needed plenty of charge. I put the fridge on it for a few days before the tests, just to be sure. Yes your 100% on blanket vs folding. I also find the folding get better results for various reasons. As much a I know it costs me power, I'm still just a fan of chucking them on the ground and taking what I get. So a blanket style is right up my alley. The 4wd and the van both have their own permanent installs, so these are just for a little bump to what I'm what I'm already getting. Cheers for taking the time mate.

@@DENMONKEY All good ,, Ok I'm different I like my solar setups doing the best they can otherwise not worth me having it, or taking away on our trips,

I think these need to be left in the sun for a few weeks before testing. derating is a major issue for flexibles and often derate very quickly leading ppl to say unrealistic outcomes. personally I would get double in flexible to match a rigid panel. Temp is also a big factor which you dont address and winter days and good sun can skew numbers. In the mountains at 7C I have got 28amps off 3x 100 amp rigid though that is not in anyway normal. Oh concrete surface would be better as your lawn is not a normally available surface, it aids cooling and skews the numbers.

Cheers for the comment Mark. I've been testing the panel for about a month. With hours of footage but I need to cram all of that down to under 30 mind minutes or less for the video. What you see is the highlights or the bits I think people want to see or are interesting, whilst trying to not make the exact same panel review content as everyone else. It's a warm summer here in Australia , so any winter or cool weather testing isn't possible. I mention the temp several times to ensure the viewer understands the conditions. Since heat is the enemy of performance in panels, i believe these conditions are a good test for the product. When I camp, I'm in an off grid situation, it's a very very rare situation that I'm anywhere near concrete. So grass or dirt is where I would use it 99% of the time. So this is what I try and replicate. On a few days of the test it was over 40c or about 110F . So bloody hot, insulation from the ground would offer minimal benefit when everything around is being affected. I went metal detecting on one of those hot days, and the soil was even hot 8 inches down when I was chasing a find. It was an odd thing. Short version, I test as much as I can in conditions as close as i can get to those i would use it, and I let you see that. It's the best I can do in the time I have available.

Solar controller look very similar to the kings one which is not good at all.

I did notice it looked the same as the older model with the usb on the front. I don't know about the version I had with them on the bottom. I also spotted the atempower version is the same too. I'm not a huge fan of the kings electronic stuff but only based on others feedback. My 1500w inverter works great as do my batteries. Whilst I think you're right, it wouldn't be fair to make a judgement call based on the inticdotal evidence of a different brand. My experience thus far, it just worked. Got bloody hot, but worked.

I was wondering if they were made by the same supplier, maybe a newer version of the kings model , my kings one got pretty hot until it died. Got plenty of kings gear myself just got a lithium setup for my Pajero. Keep up the good work. Get better soon.
