I'm relieved to see it doesn't look as bad as I thought it was going to. Some places outside of Sanibel look really awful. Still makes me very sad though. Our family used to winter down in Sanibel for years and years. That island will forever be close to my heart. My parents want to move there when they retire...hopefully there won't be anymore devastating hurricanes hitting the area. We ❤ you Sanibel!

My mother used to own a timeshare condo in what used to be Southsea's Plantation and we would spend every single summer on Captiva and santa bell islands. I think it's going to take some time because when hurricane Charlie went through it took a good year before we got back to our time share.

@@barbllm My brother's lovely timeshare community is not going to be replaced. It's at the far end of Sanibel and it's just gonna get "beat up" again...

This was/is devastating to see. The whole island was under 12 ft+ of water, and it was totally annihilated.

I’ve lived in Florida for 39 yrs in May 2023’ & never made it to that part to visit & vacation Bc it’s more expensive but it’s like going to the keys without going to the keys. It was a knockout blow to the barrier islands & to the west coast of our state. It’s absolutely devastating. “Life finds a way.” Remember that.

I was surprised to find out it has an elevation of just 3'. As in the entire area is at the mercy of the sea. No highlands here.

Really nice flying and a great view showing the devastation but highlighting the resilience of the people. The color profile seems a little flat, I feel like you could bump up the colors and saturation a little but otherwise a great video. Heading down there tomorrow to visit my parents in Ft Myers and hoping to do some flying while I'm there!

Everything is high risk and Everything can be destroyed. It's why insurance policies have the "Act of God" part.

@@francismarion6400 Some place, like Sanibel which is very close to sea-level, is at greater risk. Just like homes along A1A here in St. Augustine - there's no land/beach left. That is and will be a high risk area....

@cecileroy557 That doesn't mean the all might government needs to ban them. that's complete nonsense. People have lived in these type places forever. I personally know of 1 family that has lived in Everglades city since 1830. They get hit by a hurricane like every 5 years.

The videographer covered the area, but it’s always different when you are driving… it’s devastating for sure. I have been there several times as we are trying to help a restaurant come back now as soon as they can.

You fail to realize that most of the business there is off-island ownership and people commute back and forth to open up shop there. Most employees too. Maybe somewhere along your road to heaven you can visit the Wizard and he can give you a heart?
