I have (as many other people - but not those who were born after the early 90s) seen the world before the Internet and global mobile networks. It was very different. The world was bigger and information was mostly available from books/newpapers/magazines and maybe audio sources and perhaps Norton help files and text files on floppy and directly from people. Human communication/contact was very direct. I mean, we used phone booths OMG. I, myself, can only imagine the world before the computers and abundance of landline phones. When I was a child, to my fortunate, my father worked for a computer company and we had original IBM PCs at home. But most people had no computers. Some had C64s, Amigas and few had IBMs and some IBM compatibles. The closest to web sites were Bulletin Board System servers that could be reached via voice modems. Even that looked very advanced. Today, it looks odd if someone owns no computers or smart phones. I can hardly imagine what the future looks like. Say, 50 years from now. A hundred.

Building actual sets and models take a long time and money. But they tend to have a better look. Think the original dune costumes and inside sets, or original blade runner. Cgi has it's place like in outer space or dinosaurs. But a lot of stuff that could be done with real sets, just looks really fake with CGI it seems very lazy and cheap. Digital sensors can't complete with film quite yet. They remastered this film, look how good it stands up to video especially from they first changed over. Tv programs shot on video lets say in te 90s look horrible to say even Bonanza shot on film. Especially when remastered to modern video standards. I can only imagine how good the original film looks.

Dude 500 years is nothing. Humanity had been around much longer than that. We've found that modern humans may have existed longer than we even thought. Thousands and thousands of years. Modern humans have existed for at least 10,000 years... imagine what the ancient peoples thought of it being our time. They never imagined we'd be around in 2021. Some of them thought the world would have ended dozens of times by now.. Hell, even if we nuke each other, some small pockets of humanity will survive. Have more faith in your species. A lot of us are fucked up, but there's also so much potential for good in us.

"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material" yet I guarantee that you're doing just that right now. Like come on dude. You cannot say you believe one part, but not the other ridiculous things. I could go on and on and on about all the stupid made up shit in the bible. If I wrote down a bunch of stories, Put them in a book, and then said book was found buried in the ground 2000 years later.. Does that make everything in the book true? No? Of course not. Just because it was written by ancient humans, that doesn't make it real. You're trusting the accounts of people that didn't even know we live on a planet. People that didn't even know what makes rain happen. People that were superstitious about EVERYTHING. You're going to trust those people with your eternal soul? LOL. Lets try this. Here's some ridiculous stuff you like to ignore. What about "When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean." Leviticus 15: 19-20 How about "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves." Numbers 31:17-18 Ohhh how about this one eh? So you believe in owning slaves then? Because the bible says that, too. "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way." Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT Get your head out of your ass. It wont kill you to admit you're wrong.

Don’t believe everything the media or politicians say about the future because they sometimes tend to over exaggerate things. If anything 2525 makes it even sadder to think this can continue the way it is and humanity will one day reach 2525, I hope one day things change and we can transcend one day. God bless.

Part of the effect this song has on me is thinking about those who will come after and knowing I'll be dust (in the wind) when they finally tread this same planet under the same sun and moon. They'll think of us the way we think of the people who were here hundreds and thousands of years ago. The people who saw the melt of the last ice age... Doesn't every living person have a small measure of arrogance over the dead because of their frailty in dying?

I am from Colombia and I am 66 years old. In 1975 I heard the song Año 2525 performed by the Frank Pourcel Orchestra, an instrumental version that gave it a futuristic touch and left me in awe. I never imagined that this song was a composition by Zager & Evans, in fact I didn't even know they existed. 40 years later, while exploring the band Ten Years After, I found this version of the song and it impressed me even more because of its prophetic lyrics. Beautiful composition.

@@sidhebanshee6086 You're right about that, Bean Sidhe. It's 2024, and people under 30 are the laziest and most unfocused humans I've ever seen. Every generation has its stupid people, I know, but now idiocy seems to be the norm.

Every few years I watch Metropolis. Each time I am more astounded at how it advanced it was, on so many levels. Excellent song, and your use of the film excerpts is perfect. Thank you for creating and sharing your work.

One time my two buddies and I were sleeping out under the stars in a field by a hay baler. We were all pledged to pull our first 'all-nighter'. I remember this song playing around 2 am. It was a new song, then. It was magical, yet frightening. Hearing this and watching the Milky Way rise made me feel so insignificant. I wondered if we were all to die in a nuclear nightmare. Needless to say, I was the only one to see the sky lightening in the east that morning. It seems so very long ago. Childhood's end.

OH MY GOD, THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY. OH MY GOD!!!! I'm screaming. This has been one of my favorite songs since I was 5 (1969), when my brother would sing/play it. I saw Metropolis 30 years ago and found it so moving. You are so spot on with how they fit together. I hope those watching this are half as moved as I am. Absolutely love your creativity. Very artistic and moving.
