Review of the Sanou K13-100 self centering 6 jaw chuck. After a good clean up and some light fettling, this low cost Chinese made chuck was a great perfomer and will prove very useful in the workshop.

Great presentation, enjoyed! Interesting chuck. I was considering that chuck for toolgrinding. Btw. your audio commentary is incredible well done.

Hi Stefan, thanks for your comment. The chuck requires some TLC to get it performing, and it isnt perfect, but it is affordable. Glad you liked the audio commentary :)

Could some of these pieces be placed in a tumbler with the small ceramic stones in order to take the sharp edges down? I don’t think this process would remove metals in the larger surfaces to negatively affect the tolerances. Great videos.KJ

Hi. As we are a chuck manufacturer in India. Manufacturing chucks since last 62 years. Side ways shake is a not much a problem if it is within 0.01 mm. Up down shake is not acceptable at all. Secoundly, i agree with the video regarding 6 jaw chuck should be used for parts with less wall thickness or to hold drills (holding from flanks) however for forging, casting or simply round jobs 3 jaw chuck is always better. Concept is more the jaws and slots of the chuck body is involved, more the chuck is inaccurate.

i wonder how loose the scroll fits in the main body. that would create the need to tighten it in 3 places.. you may want to use a 3/8 or 1/4" drive click type torque wrench. to equally tighten items in the chuck. if you tighten the first one slightly less than you do the second or third you might be able to get the run out even closer. might be able to use a spray welder to put a few tenths on the scroll to fit it tighter to the chuck body and reduce the slop.. might also set up the chuck jaws on their sides in a milling jig all aligned.. spray weld up the slots in one side.. align them on a piece of ground to fit key stock. then mill or grind the spray weld down to the exact fit on the chuck body.

Hi Ade Could you make a Zero adjust chuck by giving the spigot on the rear of the chuck more radial clearance -- say 3 thou. Loosen the three adjusting cap head screws and tap with a dead blow hammer to achieve dead center, then tighten the three cap head screws.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the comment, I think I will use this chuck quite often, mostly for the extended work holding capability, as this will solve many of the problems I have encountered in the past.

The K13 chuck is also available with normal internal, external, and two part reversable jaws. They should all be compatable with the chuck body. I want to get the 160 size with normal external/internal, and two part would be nice. Any idea where to buy just the jaws?

Great review, nicely done. After all the effort to clean it up, it still required all three pinions to be tightened to get good gripping of the workpiece? I wonder if this is the case on a TOS or Bison chuck of similar size, and yes I am aware that they would be many times the price. I have not had anything to do with six jaw chucks and just wonder if an expensive chuck would still require the three pinion adjustment. I only ever use a single pinion to tighten my 100mm three or four jaw chucks.
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash 6 жыл бұрын
Hi smallcnclathes, thanks for your comment. I have never owned a precision chuck from the brands you mention, as you say, they are usually out of the price range for a hobbyist, so I do not know if they would require multi-pinion adjustment. I also own a 3 jaw self-centering chuck made by Bernurd, and have found that single pinion tightening (in the same jaw) produces the most concentric accuracy. My guess would be that for a high priced precision chuck the accuracy would be a lot more repeatable from a single pinion securing, but I may be wrong. The 'essence' of this review is that good quality accuracy can be had from 'budget' equipment, for the home-engineer. Regards. Ade

Hi Shaun, thanks for the comment. There is a link in the description to the retailer (Banggood), the price seems to change frequently so didn't include it in the video, but fluctuates between £75 - £120.
