Quick little fun fact: The villagers aren't meant to be based on the Sanrio characters but instead actual fans. That's why they didn't have the kero villager be an actual frog. So thats why villagers like Marty just look like a random villager who made themselves look like their idol.

the reason they didn’t completely replicate the characters is because they didn’t want the exact characters, they wanted the villagers to be kind of like “fans” of the character. that’s probably why they didn’t have chelsea be a bunny like my melody, or rilla to be a cat like hello kitty

For anyone wondering Étoile is French for “star” and it is pronounced “Ay-twa-luh”. The last syllable is kinda hard to write out but it’s said like the “le” in the English suffix -able
