The interaction with the bed is so creepy if you played pacifist. Becouse in pasifist, it says something along the lines of "If you lay down, you might never get back up". And in genocide it says "my bed". So the bed Chara ("James" - the first fallen human) died on. The bed they lied on and never got up from again.

1:36 Fun fact about the dog food: during a Pacifist playthrough, it says the bag is half-full, indicating "James"/Chara, the narrator, feels optimistic. After killing even one person, it says the bag is half-empty, so killing makes them pessimistic. And... if you've killed at least 20 people, including specifically the Snowdin dogs, it starts saying "you just remembered something funny". So, we can assume that after a certain amount of LV they become corrupted, and even sadistic. As for how they became the narrator, I believe their consciousness starts piggybacking on Frisk's soul (one the same color as their own) after you fall onto their grave and awaken when Flowey "calls for them". They're there even during pacifist playthroughs, as you could see with the "You laugh and keep laughing, it's SO funny you can't stop, tears run down your face. What? You didn't do that?" line. I don't think they're evil, just tainted by the murders you commit

It’s actually also quite cute to think how they could’ve helped on pacifist! Like when Frisk saved Asriel. For every lost soul they used memories of these souls, memories they, Frisk, also knew. But they knew nothing about Asriel. And still, memories of him and Chara appeared, and helped to save Asriel It’s just nice to think that Chara could’ve help to save Asriel in that moment

@maxan1324 no problem, I love talking about this! When I said "they're always there", I meant Chara. I believe they're acting as the narrator for the entire game, not just during the "it's me, Chara", ✨️ominous red text etc etc✨️ bits you see in the Genocide route. As for the grave thing: at the beginning of the game, Frisk falls onto a bed of golden flowers located at the start of the Ruins. Given Flowey's dialogue in Genocide stating "Chara, How did you get back to the Ruins from here?... wait I know. She must have taken you when she left. And decided to give you a proper burial, rather than... hanging out in the basement forever", plus the fact that both Asriel and Toriel can be found taking care of this particular bed of flowers at one point or another, it is implied that Toriel buried Chara's body there. It's a popular theory that Chara's essence probably got attached to Frisk's when Frisk lands on it, leading to them becoming able to act as Undertale's diegetic narrator. If you're interested in learning more, there is a fantastic post detailing all the evidence in favor of the NarraChara theory and what they might have been like in life on Andrew Cunningham (a famous UT/DR theorist here on youtube)'s discord library. The post is really long but it's an incredibly interesting read, I highly recommend it! 😊

Floweys backstory here, gives so much more depth to what we saw as a fully evil lil flowey. He was really scared, confused, and couldn't even connect to his own emotions anymore. And on top of it all, he realized he could restart. He was just curious, and helped everyone at first of course. But it has to be so boring and lonely to be in his situation. And now, sickos like me sit by and watch as more and more people get to experience it~

Ah! I didn't make the connections before. Here, Flowey suggests that Toriel took Chara's body out of the coffin to give a proper burial somewhere. Not only does that explain why the coffin is empty, but where do you think the grave is located? Totally explains how Frisk comes into contact with Chara's soul.

There's something very tragic to me in how Flowey, even after everything...still suggests just living on the surface. All he wants, after all this time, after everything he's done...Is just to live on the surface with his sibling as himself.

so here's my interpretation. frisk is the character you play as, yes. they are their own person. on the no mercy route, we see less fo them, though, because chara (the first human) becomes stronger with the LOVE you gain. chara narrates the game because when toriel left asgore, she took chara's corpse and buried them in the ruins, in the place where you first fell. alphys mentions that golden flower seeds are very sticky, and since asriel laid chara down in the flowers on the surface before going back, their corpse had flower seeds stuck to it, and that's where the flowers where you fell first came from. both frisk and chara have red souls (as evidenced by their coffin), so that might be part of the reason they were able to come back to life. chara is obviously the narrator in the no mercy route, but you can see evidence of them being there in all routes if you pay attention to the narration. some examples being them falling silent during the toriel and asgore fights, them talking directly to frisk (still just you, frisk), commenting on their bed (if you lay down here you might never get up), and other things. the first fallen human is an interesting character. i don't think they're evil persay, because they clearly cared about their family (drawing pictures, making the sweater for asgore, picking up speech patterns from toriel), and i think they really did want to save monsterkind by giving up their soul. but on the no mercy route, after the tragedy of the buttercup incident, i think they're kind of corrupted by the LOVE and taught that killing is the right thing to do.

Interestingly, even though choosing to erase or not doesn't change the outcome, it changes "James" s reaction and dialogue. Also doing genocide affects true pacifist but you can just watch a videos about all the stuff you haven't seen 👍 Anyway, super excited for the Deltarune playthrough!

i’m imagining you after this ending sitting there and thinking about what you just did thinking about how you’ve pretty much become flowey, exhausting every option, thinking of how all the people finding secrets by resetting over and over again are canonically doing that also thinking about how you were feeling during sans’ fight. in that fight, you’ve pretty much become JAMES (in your case), that feeling of determination takes over. the musics pumping your blood. but then, you kill him, the music stops, and you’re left with a bitter feeling. you killed him, just to see what he would say or do. he mentions his brother, and you remember that you killed him. you remember how close they were, and how much they love each other. it’s not painful that you killed him, its painful that you barely spared a second thought after killing him. when you check papyrus in genocide, it says his atk and defense, his description being “Forgettable.”. if you did check him, you’d probably say “no he’s not!”. but you did forget about him. the pain you caused when you killed him. he’s the only one who believed in you until the end, knowing what awful things you’ve done. yet all you care about is getting through the run so you can fight sans. he’s just an obstacle. it’s unsatisfying, isn’t it? at least for me it was. i got an insane feeling of guilt, the more i thought about it, that night i finished it. guess you could say i felt my sins crawling on my back. you’re not really meant to feel that as you fight sans, but you sure as hell are meant to feel that after you do.

The "pink goop" is ice cream xD In her date dialouge with Undyne, Alphys say she uses the seeweed, that she claimed to be for sciens purposes, to make ice cream. That's what that mashine is for. You can see the seeweed sticking out at the top, and the pink stuff flowing out of it and into the bucket is seeweed ice cream (don't ask me why it's pink though) Btw, looking forward to your stream! ^^ I'll try to watch it live! I'm curious if any of my suggestions made it in xD

I don’t remember if I ever mentioned it, but since you liked undertale, I’d HIGHLY recommend playing a game on steam called Oneshot. It’s a puzzle rpg story game with a large amount of meta in it. It has 2 main endings and one true ending called the “solstice”, and it’s best played in windowed mode.

Yeah, I played OneShot a while ago, and this year I finally learned that Solstice existed. It's such a good game, and definatly hits on the same sorts of feelings as Undertale does. Even if I do think Undertale manages to add more comedy and rememberable characters, OneShot can really stick with you once you beat solstice.

I don’t know why anyone hasn’t said this, but sans’ eye goes blue if you try to go left before he falls asleep. When Flowey begged not to be killed, he said it in Adriel’s voice. And the plan James, AKA Chara, said failed…well, you’d understand with the True Lab VHS tapes.

This just got recommended to me and honestly, one of the better reactions I've seen recently :D Also, as a Chara fan I gotta point out that it blows my mind that no matter how Sans tried to deliver justice (evidence: yellow eye, yellow soul=justice), Chara's the one who did that singlehandedly in the end. You play as frisk, however in the no mercy route we see less of them since the first human is being more dominant. Its easy to note Chara's ( first human/James) narration on the no mercy route but its also important to note that they are the one narrating on normal runs too, however they are narrating to frisk (its you) while on the no mercy route they start taking over and narrating for themselves (its my bed, its me)

great playthrough, homie~ if you’re looking for Undertale content to watch, i suggest watching Judgement Boy’s video where they have a theory about who Chara (the first fallen human) really is. i like to think their theory about the first fallen human is the best interpretation of this character, so you should definitely check it out! it’ll also clear things up for ya. oh- and speaking of clearing things up, you should look up stuff about a hidden character named W D Gaster. normally, i’d suggest just replaying the game to find secrets yourself, but Gaster is honestly one of the most elusive things in any game ever, so no one will blame you for looking into this online. and Gaster’s presence is most likely relevant in Deltarune, so it’s best to look into him by the time you play it.

Outside of story, characters, music, and what-not, in the game's inner-workings, it's even more of a masterpiece. It works a certain way as to where a new game isn't a new game. If you simply launch the game and hit "reset," there will be instances of your past game in it. Mainly dialogue. Flowey and Sans are the only characters who seem to remember your past games. In the fight with Sans, that's how he also remembers how many times you've died. Sans and Flowey are "aware" of the timelines. To get an actual fresh game, you'd have to do a "hard reset." I forget how to without cleaning the files. Trying to name your character a character's name (like Sans) will simply not let you, naming it Frisk makes the game into a hard mode (the hard mode was never complete, only the Ruins is accessible). Furthermore, it won't let you name your character "Gaster" (or Ghaster, can't remember, probably no h). He's a secret character that rarely ever appears. Theoretically, he was the royal scientist before Alphys. He fell into his own creation, the Core. He only appears once, in a secret room, accessible through a door in a secret hallway. That hallway only appears once as well, between two rooms in Waterfall somewhere. This only occurs if your game's "fun" value is 66. When you create a new game, you get a random number between 0 and a few hundred. Depending on that value, different things happen. An example would be Alphys calling you ordering pizza and texting you an ASCII catgirl. Or getting the "wrong number song." Toby put so much work into this game, even behind the scenes, it's amazing. It's no wonder he once spoke about not being able to live up to Undertale in Deltarune. I like to think both games are amazing either way.

Super old by now i know but just incase, obviously you gave “james” your soul at the end there, but that isnt actually just the game giving you a reset. If you were to play the game and reach a pacifist ending, the last cutscene where your sleeping on the surface and toriel comes in to give you a pie changes. Its been years and you prob already know so ill just say it here, but if not dont read past this -> after she lays the pie on the ground and leaves, your character suddenly turns to the camera smiling with red eyes, then the group photo at the end has everyones faces crossed out while frisk is replaced with “james” The thing is, james hated humanity and went to the mountain where people “disappear” to do exactly that since they hated the world, and they ended up underground. When they died their whole goal was to have asriel absorb their soul and go to the surface where james could kill all of the humans, but asriel fought back and didnt let him. You learn this at the end of the pacifist run if you go back to the start of the game, where youll find asriel standing at the golden flowers, and he tells you about how james wanted to destroy everyone when he was on the surface. This is also why flowey says something along the lines of “no hard feelings about back then right?” During the genocide run when hes scared of you, and why “james” automatically kills him when given the chance. So basically what james did when they took your soul was actually them planning to get to the surface once again where they could finally act out their original plan to kill everyone, hence why the picture is everybody crossed out at the end, and is also why sans says “seeing what comes next, i cant afford not to care anymore” since he knew if you got by him, james would take your soul, and that means no matter how many times you reset nobody will ever get a happy ending

This game is fire but the actual geno ending feels a bit meh and rushed to me. Like I think the ideas are great but it isn't executed as well as the rest of the game. But all in all it's an amazing game. Great job making it through that crazy fight. You were so close at 71!

It's not supposed to be a satisfying ending. This is the game's way of telling you "go fuck yourself". There's no reason to expect a good ending after killing everybody. To be honest, I would have preferred if it kept the player locked out of the game forever after getting this ending, just to really rub it in.
