Great review. I bought a 2021 Hightower carbon C S build and find it to be the closest I have come to owning a "quiver killer". I live on the west coast of BC, Canada. My local trails consist of long climbs with steep, rooty and rocky trails, freeride trails, more traditional DH trails as well a bike park (Coast Gravity Park). A bit of everything. It shreds it all. I have made a few changes to the bike but will be making more significant changes in the coming months. I will be getting the cascade components linkage and adding 10mm of travel up front. This will bring the bike from a 150mm and 140mm to 160mm and 150mm. I think this will truly make it the quiver killer. I love the responsiveness of the bike, the speed you can carry and how poppy it feels. Unheard of for a 29er a few years ago. My previous bike was a 2017 Transition Patrol and this bike makes the Patrol feel super dated. Thanks again for the video you are +1 subscriber.

Thanks for subscribing! Ha! I think you kind of made yourself a Megatower. Sounds like a badass rig!
@RR-dr6pi3 жыл бұрын
@@mtb_alan I love it. Other than adding travel the cascade components linkage really improves the shock performance. I know a few riders who have it and are stoked on what it does to the bike. The only other changes I have made are to swap out the brake levers from the Code R's to SRAM Guide Ultimate levers and changed to Renthal carbon bars. That Nomad looks unreal. Stoked to see more of your rides on it.

Hey there. I would say it depends on how you ride now, how you want to progress your riding, and what trails you're riding. I'm 5'5" and between Small and Medium. I am willing to sacrifice some playfulness at medium speeds for the performance at bikepark speeds since I spend about half the year riding bikepark. Hey such a rad bike, congrats! I am trying to figure out if i need a bronson or a nomad. Just starting out but would also go to bikeparks. Like having enough reserve, but it should also be versatile to play and do manuals with it. So start with a lighter version like the Bronson in XL (i‘m 6.1) or directly get the big bike in Large?
@mtb_alan3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the question. It really depends on what and how you ride most of the time. TBH, the Bronson did everything I wanted to do really well, and I might have been fine to stick with it. It's a do-anything bike that does most things really well. I wanted to grow my riding some and start hitting bigger things and also wanted something that would handle bigger hits and chunk like I find at the DH tracks at my local bike park. The Bronson can do this, but the Nomad is better suited for it...but I'm paying for it on the climbs. Don't get me wrong, for a 170/170 brawler, the Nomad climbs just fine, but I'm not gonna be towards the front on the climb like I was on the Bronson. Ideally though, you can get a demo on both bikes. Hope that helps.

Solid analysis, surprised you didn't mention the decision to stay 27.5, as it seems like everyone is gravitating to 29'ers now. Was that a conscious choice? FWIW, I ride 27.5+ as well so I like it :)

Thanks! I figured the wheel size discussion could happen in the comments if the Crew was curious. 😉

What the weight on it ? I have an Ibis Ripmo V2 that weights about 33.5 pounds cubit heavy all carbon but I do still climb more than 5k in a regular basis with some awesome decents, size Large.
@mtb_alan3 жыл бұрын
It’s about 32.5 lbs. in the setup I have. Note that I kept my carbon wheels from the Bronson.
@ricardozavala97293 жыл бұрын
@@mtb_alan wow than the actual frame might be slightly heavy, mine is almost 34 pounds with aluminum wheels and GX drivetrain, thinking of the reserve wheels next and XX1, how you like your reserves ? You would trade it for something else ?
@mtb_alan3 жыл бұрын
Also I that 38 fork. The thick ass tire meat might also play a role. I love the SC Carbon Reserve wheels. Great feel, and hella tough. These have a couple thousand miles on them and so far, they haven’t even needed to be trued.

Sick rig dude! I was given the opportunity to get any Santa Cruz for 20% off for 2021 race season. I looked at the Bronson and nomad, and somehow I ended up with a megatower that comes in February! Figured the 29 will have advantages for stability and rollover, and that low BB height will still let me smack corners, so I’m stoked!

Boom! Great choice! Nomad for the grins. Megatower for the wins. 🤘🏾 (And you could always see about making it a Mulletower.)
