Thank god and SMPD that this young homeless woman is going to get some needed services.

@@helenofirvine - Yes, unfortunately, because no one really cares whether she is actually getting any substantial help to solve her problems . . . they just want her out of their neighborhood, even if it's just for a couple of days. Most likely when she does get released from 'evaluation', it will be far from where she was picked-up and most if not all her possessions will have been taken away, leaving her in an even more deplorable situation back on the streets.

I know she needs help, and I’m glad they took her, but she was being quiet and non-disruptive unlike the two other people that came in the frame.

Why did they arrest her though?? She was being calm the entire time? She just needs help, she didn't need to be arrested? What the hell

If it's a psyc evaluation, why handcuff her?? She's obviously not combative or violent. SMH.

safety issue. For her and them. They don't know if she may snap at any given moment. That's why they're taking her to a psyc ward. Standard procedure.

5150 is a legal action from the CA Welfare and Institutions Code. It allows a qualified officer or clinician to confine someone against their will for 72 hours. During this time, the person will be fully assessed for their mental health status. The idea is to obtain help for the person during the hold, and after they are released.

It was nice that they took her stuff with ... Looks like she has a few good quality belongings. I enjoy these videos, Thx!

In all probability most of her belongings will be disposed of while she is being 'evaluation' at a medical facility. When she gets released back onto the street it will be without most of her things, putting her in an even more deplorable situation than she was in before the authorities moved to 'help' her.

It’s very sad but we can’t let people set up a bedroom on the street next to restaurants and shops. She obviously is troubled. A pimp might have exploited her or an abusive partner. She needs help.
@WarHawk- Жыл бұрын
I can see why setting-up a camp site next to the entrance of a restaurant would be problematic from a health point-of-view, but what bothers me is that on several occasions and in different locales those that wanted to truly help get the homeless off the streets have attempted to emplaced purpose-built 'tiny homes' on vacant lots or in privately owned area, just to be shut-down by municipal bureaucracy for supposed violation of ZONING laws, Fire Code violations, Health Code violations, Safety Code violations, or Building Code violations, even when most of those 'violations' were not actually applicable to the area or the proposed structures. In other attempts to house the homeless, the requirements and expense to satisfy municipal infrastructure requirements first (water, sewer, electric, lighting, storm runoff, paved streets, curbing, sidewalks, fencing, security, etc.), prior to emplacing 'Tiny Home' structures prevents this from ever being accomplished. These preventative measures coming from a city and county (Los Angeles) that likes to brag about having the 7th wealthiest economy in the world.

I'm an old fart. Please, would someone explain all these scooters I see. Are they for rent? If so, do you stick your bank card into them, wave your hand over them, do they scan your eyeball? I see unattended scooters everywhere, just sitting in the middle of nowhere.
@Alboalt Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you rent them. Then leave them on the street when you're done. Someone comes by and takes them to be charged, then delivers them to the street the next day. A lot of them get tossed into a dumpster or the ocean, by youths, but the company doesn't care because they're cheap crap made in China. They're the worst things ever.

The scooter is a one trip rental. You download an app on your phone and set up an account with your debit card. When you want to go somewhere you receive a code on your phone that you enter into the scooter and you go for a ride.

Yay, lets get rid of another one of those NASTY people out of MY neighborhood, that has committed no crime other than . . . . being POOR! What has our society come to when more money is being spent on arresting or just 'moving' people along, than is being spent on ensuring that the homeless have the mental-health, medical, housing, substance-abuse counseling services, and other things needed to get them PERMANENTLY off the streets?
@Urbanhandyman Жыл бұрын
You can offer her your garage once you move your Tesla out of it.
@WarHawk- Жыл бұрын
@@Urbanhandyman - Yep, so can you, but my point was that more tax dollars are being used to continually move the homeless from one place to another or arresting them for things like loitering, and then cleaning up the area they were vacated from, than would have been used to provide paying jobs for them like graffiti removal or cutting weeds and sheltering them (even if it's just in a secured 'tent' city type accommodations).

@CB-cv9yh Жыл бұрын
No point if you don't provide them with correct care and long term services for their specific issue. A 5150 is a 72 hour MAX hold in a hospital for a psych eval. When I use to work in public health, IF the police would agree to take in one of our patients on a 5150, the hospital never kept anyone beyond 2 days.

That establishment is the "Meat On Ocean" steakhouse. Very pricey place. High end patrons don't want to see some hobo laying next to a stream of urine as they enter. There are outreach programs all over the city for these vagrants. Problem is, most don't want the help and/or follow the rules. Nice work SMPD.

very judgemental..of course Hunter Biden has a place on Venice Beach..great drug crash pad with his millions...so perhaps you are correct...stop giving them $1000+ a month, and enabling the homeless lifestyle..like trick or treating going to rich neighborhoods for the best candy..these homeless know the same and do..and the cities do nothing but enable them...and I was homeless for over a year..was a means to an end not a lifestyle, and I was ashamed, as I had morals and honor as a kid I was 18..never took a dime from anyone worked 7 days a week to save money to get a roof over my head...these homeless have no problem begging..and expecting to be taken care of...pathetic...
