Boundaries with family ! OMG . This keeps coming up over and over again in these interviews I have listened to. Not just with family, but with everyone. I can see how I was terrible at boundaries which leads to a lot of unexpressed anger and also how my avoidance tactics have not helped . BOUNDARIES: HOW TO SPEAK YOUR TRUTH right ? Thanks you ladies.

Yes! Such beautiful wisdom. Love her insights about boundaries! So underrated. And about consistency without rigidity with brain retraining. This was a great one!

Thanks Santa and Raelan for a thoughtful interview. These matters can be easily overlooked in the stress and confusion of trying to recover. I personally found that enquiring into the why of my over doing things and poor boundaries led way back similar to Santa's experience also. This is quite uncomfortable at times but can lift a lot of negative and fearful emotions that are mostly just out of awareness . A useful tool has been a daily practice I learned at "The Crappy Childhood Fairy". This is a form of journaling or just getting things down on paper and out of your head.

I feel you. Self-awareness is one BIG step. It seems insignificant but it’s not actually. Such small steps then lead to big realizations and more healing 😊

Thank you both for this video. I definitely fall into that category you mentioned of parents on their recovery. I'm working on recovery at the moment with 2 small children. Currently stuck in a quite frustrating cycle of making great progress applying the tools I've learned only for it all to come tumbling down in a major crash. It feels like a game of snakes and ladders. Honestly have been feeling a lot recently that it's just an impossible situation trying to juggle recovery, being a Dad and working (albeit part time). It's encouraging to hear that it is possible and other people have made it work.

I am so sorry.. But I can't keep silent. She's not fully recovered. She's saying this because of the conviction that once you know how to regulate, you can consider yourself fully healed. That's what DNRS people often say. That they're fully recovered. If you follow her Instagram stories, you'll know she's not. It's such a shame, it makes brain retraining sounds like a fad to lots of people - because there're people who think they can use language in the way they please. That said, I am not opposed to people coaching other people how to get better, while they're not yet fully recovered. We can learn a lot from each other. It's a good support system which proves to be one of the best healing tools. But one needs to be transparent about their current level of recovery..
@HealwithLiz

Going from bedbound to living her life, and knowing how to regulate her nervous system... that's wonderful and something to celebrate. I think her concept is powerful and more sustainable. Because it's about the knowledge, action, and commitment and trajectory, and something you address every day (regardless of symptoms), rather than something you eliminate. Knowing how to regulate your nervous system - that makes for a lasting recovery. Yes, one plant may have more flowers, but if you're working on the roots (the nervous system) the flowers will come season after season. This approach seems to focus on the roots. BTW DNRS doesn't teach you that (though don't think any brain retraining program would encourage a disease or struggle focused username). The second program Santa talks about talks about their definition of healing, which seems more sustainable. Raelan has a lot of interviews of people running marathons. I'm cool with Santa saying she's healed. Rather than someone who may have climbed a mountain (or what have you) and hasn't fully done the work on their nervous system. I think if you do watch her stories, Santa is very authentic about her life and the work involved.

@@HealwithLiz lol it’s not of course an indicator of being healed and I’m not suggesting that in the least. It was just funny that you mentioned and others would probably use it as an example too. But I was healed before I could even climb it😄 thanks again for your kind support

The term Fully recovered is subjective isn’t it? For many people life in recovery is different to how it was before they got sick. In fact, I think most health coaches advise patients to reformulate their lives to accommodate better health practices. Even „healthy“ people may have chronic symptoms ( like migraine or allergies) and sick days, so being recovers doesn’t need to be free of all symptoms all the time, running marathons and working 60+ hours/ week. So, yes, she may still have lower energy and need to pace in ways that others don’t but compared to where she was, she may feel recovered. it’s her own subjective experience!
