Wow, a fantastic layout! I especially loved your attention to historic detail. For example the Helms Bakery. Having grown up in LA in the 50,s my school class went on a tour of the bakery. I also fondly remember the Helms man who would drive through our neighborhood and sell baked goods from his Helms truck. I'd love to visit your layout someday.

You aren't the only one. The Helms Bakery building and truck are frequent conversation starters :). Drop by any weekend 1-4pm.

I was a member of a Club that was difficult to get folks to agree on anything! So the fact you have people who are interested in a specific line and time, I feel is a very strong Plus!!!

Scale train movement. Oh so nice to see the engineer pull out the slack. When movement is in scale you become immersed in the scene. Model Railfanning at its finest.

I've never seen a moving cab forward model. To see one in action is so cool. What a great layout, I could loose a day there. Watching in New Zealand.

In 1962, when I was 7 years old, my school took a 'field trip" to Starkist Tuna Factory in L.A. All us kids were riveted by the giant fish and the manual cleaning techniques performed by the men working behind the glass in white coats.

Lovely model railroad...just for comparisons sake, if you actually wanted to model the state of California from North to South/East to West in HO 1/87 you would need a layout that was 2.65 miles wide on average and a length of 11.6 miles...that would be to model the state in it's entirety to scale without selective compression.

Pretty wild. We definitely took some license and made some big cuts to get in the important bits.

Does the cab forward have a powered alco diesel in the ender to assist in pulling all those reefers?
@jgalexander5106 ай бұрын
Nope! It handles the load all by itself :)

These old geezers know more about computers than most young whipper snappers. I know nothing about all those train software, DCC, switches, etc.
