The show is based on the Tower of Babel from the Bible. It is a short passage describing how there was once a unified tribe of people that all spoke the same language who decide to build a city with a tower that reaches heaven. At which point God makes them all speak different languages and scatters the people around the world. There is is several interpretation as to what this verse means that would take a lot to get into, but I think this show picks up where the Bible leaves off. You get the fire and war vibes because of the chaos following the destruction of their city. The ballad is amazing because it has the 2 opposing solos that morph into a duet and then when the whole corps comes in they are visually connecting the soloists. This represents humanity learning they can work together again. Then by the end, with how they move around the props, it still appears that there are seperate tribes of people but they form a single line; a show of what we can accomplish if we work together. The show is just beautifully designed and the corps showed up and played with such fire. One of the most memorable shows for sure.

The Story of Babylon: So basically all humanity lived as one. They spoke the same language and built a huge society. One day they had the idea to build a huge tower (when the props make one big block in the beginning). One that would reach heaven. God was like "Naw, y'all trippin". So he separated them, and also made it so they spoke different languages so they couldn't understand each other (when the props separate). So over time different societies came up. Then that lead to the rise of the first empire, Babylon.

I've been watching DCI for about 20 years now, and this is my all-time favorite show. Much imitated, never bettered.

much imitated..? it's only been 4 years of on field shows past 2018...

This was such an amazing show, so much fun to watch and so thrilling to see them win. My only complaint about the show was that colorguard seemed to do more dancing than guard work, but everyone did such a great job!

Totally agree - which is maybe why their guard didn't place higher? I don't even really remember a distinct flag feature in the show (their 2017 feature was impeccable) but I get thematically maybe why they minimized the guard work.

SCV and the Cavaliers have a unique marching style. I'm a fan of it because it's different.

Santa Clara was the 2018 DCI champions. The guard finished 3rd with a 19.5 out of a possible 20.

last seasons show was “kiss from a rose” at my school lol. the first movement was based off the song rosemary by deaftones. its a little twist to the Aphrodite and Adonis love story but our ballad was kiss from a rose lol

I’m gonna recommend Bluecoats 14 and 19. 14 is probably still their most iconic show (also shows off their old school unis if your into that sorta thing). 19 was just an incredible show and the fight between them and the blue devils for first place that year was insane (I’m still fired up about it lol)
