Santana - Oye Como Va (Live HQ - Carlos Santana)
www.agoravox.fr/
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oye_Como_Va
Oye Como Va" is a song written by Latin jazz and mambo musician Tito Puente in 1963 and popularized by Santana's rendition of the song in 1970 on their album Abraxas, helping to catapult Santana into stardom with the song reaching #13 on the Billboard Top 100. The song also reached #11 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey and #32 on their R&B chart. It was inspired by Israel "Cachao" Lopez's "Chanchullo."
The title comes from the first words :
Oye como va
Mi ritmo (meaning "Listen to how my rhythm goes.")
Bueno pa' gozar
Mulata

Do you realise that Santana has been going now for 49 years, having started in 1964? I remember my dad saying back in the 60s and 70s that "None of these pop groups will be remembered in 30 or 40 years time." How wrong he was, and how fantastic are Santana to not only be still going, but also to still be one of the most awesome bands of all time.

Back in the day everybody was on the same page more or less. I was a white kid growing up in the Midwest, and I loved this music, still do today. There was something about the way this music was put together that moved me, it didn't matter that there were multiple different races involved in making it the rhythm moved me, I didn't really know why, it just did. I'm still a white guy, just old now. It makes me sad to think that old white guys like me are now hated by a certain segment of the population, I think we all got along pretty good back then. I've been a guitar player all this time too, Carlos has a great story about coming to America and becoming who he is, humble, grateful, truly one of the all time greats. "Hear me how I sing, my rhythm makes me want to dance"

I love classic rock. I love Santana. These guys were a different breed. It was about making music, touching your soul. They had passion and it showed through thier pure, genuine musical abilities. You can see it, they loved what they were doing. What a gift. Amazing talents, all of them. Carlos is a genius on the guitar, no doubt about it but his group was right there with him. Amazing, just amazing. It never gets old!!!

What Santana brought to American popular music, pretty uniquely, was a complex shifting and mixing of rhythms, leaving aside his insanely good guitar playing of course and generally tight bands with complete instrumentation. I've been lucky enough to have been around from the 60s and have seen his band several times .... truly one of the great concerts you can still catch .....

As a young guitar student of the early 80's, I played along to the Abraxas album, on cassette, until it was worn the fuck out. Glad to him today live on KZbin playing those great songs again. I still play along with great happiness. I think he may have inspired the Mars Volta just a bit.

What other guitarist has carried their career throughout the music industry without using their voice like he has? Probably the most invited guitarist that vocalist want in their music. He is the most versatile guitarist. Still today this guy is putting on tours, 50 years after Woodstock, just to see him not sing, dance, but play the guitar. The best and most successful guitarist in my opinion. Right up there with Hendrix.

Still jamming to Santana since first heard them. That had been 1971 and the group I was in, we did this tune and this was the only Hispanic tune we all knew. What was unusual was, we did this for Little Joe and Familia for their intermission. We did mostly Hard Rock. We were a band that did not shy away, which was 1/2 hour for five Spanish Group in Texas. I did not know Little Joe and some artist were in hiding and heard us, so we got these gigs, thru the drummer. Still remember gigs, as it felt like it was yesterday. Bravo Carlos and the Santana Group for giving a tune that we as 2 raza, one black, and I (a native American) did. Man those were the days when music was just as exciting as today's Concerts. We even did "Louie, Louie, Louie," by the Stories. That was the era of tunes, we as a band did back in 1971 and until we broke up. Around two years later.

In 1969 I was 18, dad worked for Capitol records, every month he would come home with four concert tickets. Saw CSNY open for Santana in Atlantic City. Those were the days my friendn

When Santana took the stage their were often enough people for a couple of basketball teams. The video of them at Montreux in 1971 shows a pretty crowded stage. Heavy on the percussion with some soul searing guitar thrown in provided you're not a soulless politician. For the rest of us it's some very good stuff.
