Remember that the Returned in Warbreaker change their image based on what they view as the ideal body of their time/culture. It has to do with how invested they are, so it's likely that Kaladin had to actually see himself as free before the stormlight would allow the slave brands to heal.

There's also Ral-na, the Reishi, dustbringer, King that has physically changed his body to match his gender. To an extent, I also think this is how Lopen grew his entire arm back--he always viewed himself as whole.

I did not expect a shout out, but I'm glad my nerdy citation ended up being used for a good cause! Also, did not realize how lame my handle was until you read it 😂Y'all also made me a believer in an Awakened Gavilar being Odium's champion. Keep the theories coming! Loving the podcast, so this definitely made my day.

My big plan for this reread is to pay attention to the stormfather. After listening to the book five prologue, I am convinced he has hidden plans going on in the background. I'm also convinced that he doesn't want those plans to go to fruition anymore because Dalinar has changed him, but he cannot stop what has been set in motion. This is fully a vibe check on him. If you pay attention he is sus as hell.

The thing they overlooked is that Jasnah's lesson was teaching Shallan not only to be a highborn lady, but also Soulcasting. When Jasnah soulcasts, she knows when to coax, and she knows when to command, but confidence is key to soulcasting successfully. Being lowered into the water with goggles on to see what the Santhid really looks like is foreshadowing for Shadesmar. Like being underwater, Shadesmar is a hostile place to people from the physical plane, and the Santhid looking different from above the surface than below is a metaphor for the Spren looking different in Shadesmar than the physical world.
@asteria42796 ай бұрын
33:30 Jasnah likely went to Shadesmar when she was being tortured by.... Her dad. ("Even those you love can hurt you") There are other references to this technique: Teft's childhood cult group would hurt themselves in the hopes of becoming a Radiant, and I think Terangian mentioned it in passing.

I wonder if it was Thaidakar who planted this idea in Gavilar's head?

I think the tattoo ink gets pushed out because I still thinks of himself as a slave, or that he deserves to be on a form a penitence for his failures. This is based on something that renarin said when healing people after the everstorm. If you don't heal someone soon enough the soul starts to see itself as having that injury and thuse can't guide the healing. In Kals' soul, he is a slave so the mark of freedom won't stay. This would also explain why swearing his oaths is so hard. In the swearing, he is literly changing the shape of his soul, almost like soul, casting himself into something new.

It’s probable that Jasna is the first surgebinder. If, as a child, she couldn’t handle the inkspren’s visits, and they left her until they could verify that she was ready, that would have happened before the younger Shallon.

I've almost finished my audio reread and there's a bunch of times where I'm hoping you two get into deeper discussions. This book is very good. Also, if you haven't hear Kramer do the audio for Elhokar, it's top notch whiny boy.

I recently reread the prologue chapter of Words of Radiance and was wondering if there might be a continuity error with the Wind and Truth prologue. Jasnah sees Gavilar wearing his shardplate while fighting Szeth. But we find out that he was actually wearing Sadeas shardplate since Tearim was wearing Gavilars. And we've been told many times that Sadeas shardplate is red. Whereas I'm assuming Gavilars would be blue. What do you think? Is this just a continuity error or am i remembering something wrong?
@minerman601016 ай бұрын
They paint their shardplate, so it's not necessarily the original color and they can change its color. In one of the early Dalinar/Adolin chapters it's remarked upon that Dalinar left his armor in the original grey/black instead of painting it. So Sadeas could simply have repainted his armor in the intervening years.
@ryanrossmiller48706 ай бұрын
@minerman60101 you're right. My bad. I forgot they could paint their shardplate

I'm more than a bit of a bastard; but once we learned Teft's full story I was very, very wary of him. If you've ever had close dealings with an addict you know just how toxic they can be. Pity them; but do it from a safe distance; they will steal the fillings from your teeth.
