Day 6 - Pyrgos & Fira, Santorini 🇬🇷 31st of October The original plan was to go to a little village called Megalochori today then walk over to the heart of Santorini sunset spot later on but… we decided to get a bus and go to Fira the capital instead! We don’t have a car this time so we have to rely on buses and thought it was just easier to go to Fira. The morning was spent walking around Pyrgos village then at 1.30pm we went to Fira. Buses costs €1.60 each way and run every hour in the off season - we caught the Perissa to Fira bus. Fira was surprisingly quiet! Being the capital, I was expecting it to be busy - not over crowded like the summer months but, it was a lot quieter! I found it strange that I was noticing things I had never seen before and it took me a while to realise why… walking through streets that are jammed with tourists n July, you don’t stop you just carry on walking - because it was quiet I got to really ‘see’ Fira if that makes sense?! at a slower pace. The caldera and volcano views from Fira are breath-taking! We walked down low into the caldera to the apartment area we stayed in last year (Scirocco) then walked across the caldera back up into the streets. We went to ‘street food square’ and had a €4 gyros for lunch and had an icecream later on. We wanted to head back to Pyrgos for sunset so caught the 5pm bus back - walked up to Francos bar for a drink then watched the sunset from their rooftop terrace. Later, we went back to Brusco’s for another €18 meze for two! So good…

The steps are hard haha especially as I wasn’t very fit last year! But the views are so beautiful it’s all worth it x

Hi I’m going again too at the end of October - I loved it so much last year! It depends on where you are staying. If possible, I’d recommend hiring a car as you have more freedom to explore the island. By mid October, you’ll see some bars and restaurants starting to close down but there will always be places open all throughout the year. While I was there last year, I went Oia, Pyrgos, Imerovigli and Fira and I’d say Imerovigli was the quietest as in not many places open at night. Fira is the capital and there’s still loads of places open but you’ll see some places starting to close. Pyrgos was lovely and very quiet with just a handful of places open. The beach side I didn’t go to this time but I’ve been told they too start to wind down in October. All the attractions will be open including outdoor cinemas, 9d cinema, archaeological sites etc but boat trips may be hit or miss, depends on the weather- wind really. I was there end of October and the first week of November last year so what you see in my videos will hopefully show you what’s open still. Have an amazing time it’s a beautiful island x

Thank you so much for your reply. We are staying in perivolas, I have booked a boat trip but in guessing it will be refunded if they have to cancel due to the weather. We are only going to have 4 full days here so we will probably head to fira on one of those days. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us x
